NITHYA KRIYA

CURE FOR ANGER

FIRST – EKA PAADASANA

Dakshinaanghrim Vaama-Paadhasya

Janghopari Nidhaaya Cha |

Dvyaha Paanim Jaaupaarshvayoho

Sprushethkumitharaanghrinaa ||

Evamvidhaasanam Yathra

Thathraikaanghryaasanam Bhaveth ||5||

TRANSLATION

Having placed the right foot on the left thigh (in the standing posture) one should place both the hands adjacent to and touching the knees. This is called Ekapadasana. -YOGASANAM, 5th Verse

TECHNIQUE

1. Stand up 2. Balance yourself and place the right foot on the left thigh 3. Continue to balance yourself in this pose 4. Touch the knees with the respective hands. 5. Stand in this posture for 30 seconds.

Uddeeyaanam tvasau bandhaha

Mrutyu-Maatanga-Kesaree || 3.10 ||

TRANSLATION

One should contract the bowels above and below the navel so that the abdominal organs touch the back. The one who practices this Uddiyana Bandha continuously becomes a conqueror of death. The great bird (Kundalini) flies up in the Sushumna and flies there itself constantly.

TECHNIQUE

1. Place the palms on the knees 2. Take a deep breath in and exhale completely 3. Now rest your chin on your chest raising the shoulders 4. Pull the abdominal muscles inward so that the organs of the abdomen touch the back muscles. 5. Hold for a few moments 6. Relax the abdomen and relax your chin and then exhale through the nostrils. 7. Perform this in the same posture. 8. Repeat for 21 times

Jaalandhare krute bandhe Shodasha-aadhaara-bandhanam ||3.12||

TRANSLATION

Having contracted the chest, the chin should be placed up on the chest. This is called Jalandhara Bandha and by this the sixteen adhaaraas are closed. -Gheranda Samhita, 3rd Upadesha, 12th verse.

TECHNIQUE

Contract the throat Place the Chin on the chest. Hold as long as you can Fix the gaze on the tip of the nose. * When you can not hold any more, RELAX.

Trivaaram Saadhayet Enam Bhastrikaa-Kumbhakam Sudheehi | Na Cha Rogo Na Cha Kleshaha Aarogyam Cha Dine Dine || 5.77 ||

TRANSLATION

Like the bellows of the iron smith, systematically contract and slowly expand (the stomach) and blow air out through both the nostrils with a bellowing sound. -Gheranda Samhita 5th Upadesha, 75th verse

Having thus inhaled and exhaled quickly twenty times, one should perform Kumbhaka; then let him exhale by the previous method. The wise one should perform this Bhastrika(Bellows-like) Kumbhaka thrice; He will not have any disease nor suffering; the health will go on increasing day by day. -Gheranda Samhita, 5th Upadesha, 76th and 77th verses

TECHNIQUE

1. With a bellowing sound forcefully blow out air out of both the nostrils so that your abdomen gets tucked in. 2. Slowly allow the body to inhale 3. Repeat the cycle 21 times.

NEXT - SEETHKARI PRANAYAMA

HATHA YOGA PRADIPIKA||UPADESHA 2||VERSE 54

sITka\< k…yaRt! twa v±e ºa[enEv ivj\&iMÉkam!, @vm_yasyaegen kamdevae iÖtIyk\>. Seethkaam Kuryaath Tathaa Vaktre Ghraanenaiva Vijhrumbhikaam | Evam Abhyaasa-Yogena Kaamadevo Dviteeyakaha ||2.54||

TRANSLATION The breath needs to be sucked in through the mouth with a hissing sound and the exhalation to be done through the nostrils. By practicing this Kamadeva – the Cupid becomes the second.

TECHNIQUE

1. Press the lower teeth with the upper teeth and open the lips comfortably 2. Suck air through the gaps in between the teeth . 3. Be aware of the sound produced 4. After inhaling close the mouth and exhale through the nose. 5. Do this 21 times.

Jihvayaa Vaayum Aakrushya Udare Poorayet Shanaihi | Kshanam Cha Kumbhakam Krutvaa Naasaabhyaam Rechayet Punaha || 5.54 ||

TRANSLATION

The breath has to be filled in the abdomen by drawing air through the tongue. After having retained the breath for a moment, the exhalation should be done through the nostrils.

TECHNIQUE

1. Sit comfortably with hands preferably in Chin mudra. 2. Close the eyes. 3. Protrude your tongue as much as possible. 4. Roll the sides of the tongue like a tube. 5. Now inhale through the tube formed by the tongue. 6. After inhaling, close your mouth. 7. For a moment hold the breath 8. Exhale through both the nostrils. 9. You will feel coolness in the mouth while inhaling. 10. This is Sheethali 21 times.
