About this library

The scripture commentaries and books of the SPH Nithyananda Paramashivam, published as a place to read them — not as a shelf of files to download.

The book itself, not a picture of it

Each book arrives as structured text — chapters and verses, the Sanskrit line, its transliteration, the word-by-word gloss, the commentary, the stories, the key terms — and it is stored that way, one piece at a time. Nothing here is a scanned page or a flat file with a viewer bolted on. Everything below follows from that one decision.

Every verse has an address

A verse is a page of its own, with a link you can copy, quote and cite. The link is anchored to the words of the passage rather than to its position in a file, so it still points at the same verse after the book has been revised.

Grounded in the satsangs

Where a commentary rests on something the SPH said, the reference opens a player at that moment in the satsang. In print it is a QR code to scan; here a claim in the text and the source behind it are one click apart.

Read in your own language

Translations are prepared in advance and served from the library, so a translated page loads as quickly as an English one. A book appears in a language only once nearly all of it exists there — a tenth of a book is not a book. Each translation keeps the shape of the original paragraph for paragraph, so a passage cited in one language is the same passage in another, and Sanskrit vocabulary follows one fixed glossary instead of being re-invented page by page.

Translations are made by machine and improved over time. The original is always one click away, side by side.

Sanskrit, however you spell it

Search folds diacritics, so “Gita” finds “Gītā”. In the reader, the Sanskrit line, the transliteration, the word-by-word gloss and the commentary can each be shown or hidden: a scholar and a first-time reader want different pages out of the same text, and neither should have to scroll past the other’s.

Your reading is kept

Sign in and the library remembers where you stopped, which shelf you put a book on, and the passages you marked along with your notes. Highlights are anchored to the words you selected, so they survive the next edition of the book.

Editions, not overwrites

Every import is stored as a new edition rather than as a replacement for the last one, so a correction never quietly rewrites the record. Books can be exported back out as XML or JSON: the text is held here, not locked here.

Still being built

The catalogue and the translations grow week by week. Search covers the catalogue today — titles, authors, scriptures, keywords; search inside the full text of every book is the next thing being built.
