The Satsang

[00:00:48] I welcome you all with My love and respects. I welcome all the devotees, disciples, satsangis, samajis, sitting with us around the world at this moment in 258 places all over the world. And, I welcome all the cities who are with us in two-way video conferencing - Seattle, Ohio, Singapore, Phoenix, San Jose, Anna Nagar, Slim River and Sri Marathandavar Temple in Malaysia. There is a Panguni Uthiram Festival going on. I am very happy to be part of the Panguni Uthiram Festival in Malaysia.

Maarathandavar Aalayathin panguni uthira thiruvizhavil pangu kolvadhil perumagizhchi adaiginren. Vandirikum anbargal anaivaraiyum anbodu vanangi varaverkinren.

And, I welcome all of you with My love and respects.

[00:02:40] Let’s enter into today’s subject, today’s sutras. In the 1st chapter, 1st section, 16th sutra.

नेतरोऽनुपपत्तेः ॥ १.१.१६ ॥ netaro'nupapatteḥ

नेतरोऽनुपपत्तेः ॥ १.१.१६ ॥ netaro'nupapatteḥ

Very simple sutra. Gambhira… Swami Vireswarananda translates as: Brahman and not the other - the individual soul is meant here, on account of the impossibility of that assumption. Swami Gambhirananda translates as: the other is not the supreme Self because that is illogical. Swami Sivananda translates as: Brahman and not the other individual soul is meant here, on account of the impossibility of the latter assumption.

[00:03:38] As you are all aware, I am continuing on Brahma Sutras - 16th Sutra. Sacred secret embedded in this sutras is two. First, the positive affirmation: Cause is Existence. Source is Existence. And, negative clarity: the individual soul is not, not only Source of Existence, it is not filled with bliss. See the khandana mandana: expressing the truth in affirmating way and discarding the truth in a strong way. Khandana and mandana.

[00:04:55] Vyasa very beautifully puts it: Source is intelligence, and the individual soul is not intelligence. Cause is intelligence. Individual soul is not the Cause. He goes to the extreme of saying, do not assume the individual soul is source of happiness because of illogical. It says the assumption cannot be maintained. Even in one step, the assumption cannot be maintained. It is utterly illogical. The basic truth experienced by the individual and the Cosmic truth experienced by Cosmos continuously - these two has a big gap.

For example: now I am sitting and talking on Brahma Sutras. All of you are attending for last sixteen days. So all of you catch at least what I am saying. But, whatever I am talking is live relayed in Malaysia in the place called Maran, in a temple - Marathandavar Temple, as part of the Panguni Uthiram Festival. So millions of people are walking; I can see, somebody comes and stands there just to see what is going on. And he will stare at the screen for 3 minute. Naturally what he will feel? “Eh, tsk this is not for me. I don’t think what he is talking.” He will stand for 2 minutes and walk out. Now, what he will understand about Brahma Sutra, or about Me, or about what we are talking? You understand?

[00:07:41] Same way, when you come and stop by few seconds and see what is going on in the world, and assume your own things and then you say: “Ah, pizza is the source of joy.” You just make your assumptions, like how some people may make assumptions, who just come and stand there. 2-3 moment they look at the screen: “Ah, oh this Swami, Let's see what he talks? Ah, he is talking somethingl... it’s okay, go, go. Eh, go, let’s go, go, go, go! Let’s buy some balloons and have some err... food and go around.” Same way, when you land in the planet earth, you spend very short time here - attending what need to be attended. But I can see many people have sat down now. See when you sit down and start listening, then there is a possibility you can grasp! Most of the time, you are a casual visitor when it comes to facing the reality. We don’t give much attention to it. We don’t give much interest.

[00:09:15] Reality reveals its reality to you when you are interested in it. Please understand, reality reveals its reality to you when you are interested in it, just for the sake of reality, not any benefit it may bring. Please understand, many people go behind reality expecting it may bring bliss. It brings bliss not as you ask but as it wants. Sometime people go behind reality thinking they will be more spiritual. It makes you spiritual but not as you think but as it thinks. Some people go behind reality, thinking that they will become more moral. It makes you moral not as you think but as it thinks. There is a huge conflict always from Svadharma and Nija-dharma - Paradharma. Svadharma and Paradharma always fights. Here I am using these 2 word. What you think as Dharma and what is Dharma? These two fights. When it these two stops fighting, you are enlightened. At one point, these two merges.

[00:11:24] The time you spend for reality with the quality; when I say quality - asking for reality just for the sake of reality, not for the sake of ‘if I get reality, I’ll become enlightened, I’ll have a golden throne.’- No! You lost it. ‘If I become, if I get reality, I’ll become more moral’ - No! You lost it. ‘If I get reality, I’ll become more blissful.’ - No! You lost it. Reality is supposed to be asked just for reality.

त्यागेनैके अमृतत्वमानशुः tyāgenaike amṛtatvamānaśuḥ

There is no path other than tyaga to reach the eternal space.

Tyaga for the sake of tyaga. Asking for reality just for the sake of reality, not for anything else.

[00:12:56] The other day, one person asked Me: “I want Enlightenment Swamiji”... in Kalpataru. I asked him: “What are you going to do with Enlightenment?” “No, I want long hair like you.” I said: “For that, go and have hair plant. Do some medical things.” Of course, mine is not done medically. It is ah natural. “And that is the only reason you want to get enlightened, then there are much easier methods. Why do you want to get into the big trouble?” See, he wants Enlightenment for the sake of having long hair. Trying to have reality for some reason is the main difficulty we face. Then how to, what is the symbol of reality? What is the image of reality? Why should we be breaking our head for something which we can’t even create an image in us?

[00:14:20] See, having certain image gives you always a kind of a cozy feeling, that you are not orphan; you can always think Krishna will come and stand in front of you and protect during your death. And Shiva will appear and say: “Oh my son, please come to my loka.” No, I am not saying they won’t come. They may come, but you will not be able to be eternally with them. Because any form, any name, including my form, I, my name cannot be eternal. There is a space where almost eternal but not eternal. It’s like a door. Almost you are out if you are on the door, but not out. So all name, all form, should be used as a door to jump from what you call as Dharma to Moksha.
