Today we are entering into the 1st chapter, 3rd sutra

Shaastra yonitvaath

Sutra is just this much. Translation of this sutra is -

Brahman is omniscient because of its being the source of the scriptures

Vireshwananda: the omniscient and omnipotence of Brahman being the source of scriptures.

The meaning translation of this sutra is Brahman is omniscient because of its being the source of scriptures. Shaastra yonitvaath - just 2 words source of the shaastras – this is the source of the shaastras. First let us understand the word shaastra. Shaastra means truth about reality is shaastra. In the commentary each one says their shaastras are shaastras. Vaidikaas say Brahman is source of rig veda and yajur veda and other Vedas. Vaishnavaites say no - Brahman is source of bhagavata & other Vaishnavite scriptures. Each one debates on the shaastras. Almost all the religious fights happened in Bharat is just because of this one book – Brahmasutras. Each one was claiming their own meaning for this book which created too much of division disturbance lead to fights, wars & sometime even natural calamities because the guys who are fighting on the meaning of brahmasutras unfortunately had some of the extraordinary powers to create the natural calamities. So the Bharatn religious wars were not only used to attack and use the weapons. It even was used to attack the inner energies.

Once in a Vedantic book stall a customer went and asked showing two books – Brahma Sutras Shankara bhaashya and Ramanuja bhaashya and asked the book seller what is the difference between these two? Book seller said 45 rupees! These books are rarely read, very rarely studied, very very very rarely understood! Rarely read, very rarely studied, very very rarely understood. You need to understand this word Shaastra yonitvaath – because of it being the origin of the shaastras it is considered to be omniscient and omnipotent ultimate. So you need to understand the meaning of the word shaastra. The word shaastra means the truth about reality. Only the omniscient, omnipotent intelligence will have guts to reveal its quality. Please understand, only the ultimate will have the strength to reveal its qualities and truths about itself to you. I want all of you to understand shaastra does not mean just some book. Shaastra means truth about reality. Only truth has the capacity to reveal its truth. Nothing else can reveal about its truth. Please understand, leading somebody in the path of truth is very dangerous unless you are established in it. If you are not established and leading, then a disciple will find out your falsehood. That is one of the important, very important truth you need to understand. What is enlightenment? If you ask me now, I will tell the fan is moving, TVs are functioning, people are sitting. I am talking. This is enlightenment! That is all! If you has me Swamiji please teach Brahmasutras for this moment, I will say I am sitting on a gold plated throne, Bramachari is clicking me, time is 6.55 as per this clock, people are sitting in front of me with lot of anticipation, many have gathered round the world to watch what I am talking. This is Brahma Sutras. That’s all! only truth has innate intelligence to reveal about itself. Shaastra means truth about reality. Existence is great because it reveals all the truths about its reality. All the psycho drama …the moment you start the psycho drama of me being a guru, I start the psycho drama of you being my disciple. The moment you start the psycho drama of friendliness to somebody, that moment that person starts psychodrama of friendliness towards you. The moment you start the psycho drama of enmity, that moment that person starts the psycho drama of enmity towards you. Psycho drama of pain, pleasure towards persons, objects, reality is corruption! Otherwise in reality Shaastra yonitvaath! If I have to translate this sutra Shaastra yonitvaath - reality is the origin of the truths about the reality. Because it is origin about the truths about reality because it has the capacity to reveal the truths about itself it is great. I tell you anybody who has the capacity to reveal the truths about himself will go deeper and deeper about the truths about himself.

If you completely keep yourself open to the truth of yourself to your warm circle. Warm circle means people who experience your breathing space every day and whose breathing space you enjoy every day. People who enjoy your breathing space and whose breathing space you enjoy every day just completely open yourself to them. Even if relationship breaks it is okay. What you are reveal the truths to them. You will roll in your life so beautifully you are ready to attract the deeper and deeper personalities who are ready to radiate your reality. People who are ready to radiate your reality are your eternal companions. Not only that you yourself will experience deeper & deeper truths about you.

When you lead disciples towards truth, unless you are established in truth it is dangerous because the very methods and technologies you will teach them, they will measure you. Only truth has intelligence, capacity to reveal the truth. Only truth has capacity to show itself.

Very beautiful village example Ramakrishna says – only a girl who is pretty and done lot of make up will slowly move in a way as if she is unaware and will move in the crowd. The girl who is dull will try to cover herself. Only truth has capacity to remove the veil of falsehood and show itself. Shaastra means the truth about reality. Shaastra yonitvaath – this existence is truth because it has a courage to reveal its truths. What exactly is truth? What is shaastra? If you dig out that word, any simple happening is shaastra!

Any simple happening is shaastra! All great compelling truths are simple happenings! In Zen very beautifully the say – before enlightenment the mountain is a mountain, rock is a rock, garden is a garden, tree is a tree, during the process, during sadhana everything is confusion – mountain is not a mountain, tree is not a tree, rock is not a rock, garden is not a garden. After enlightenment again the mountain is a mountain, rock is a rock, garden is a garden, tree is a tree. Rock is a rock is the truth!

Just for this you need not gather in front of me all around the world for this! but what to do? I have to tell you the truth that rock is a rock is a rock, tree is a tree is a tree. That’s all. All simple happening is truth. That is shaastra. The complicated meaning veils imposed on the truth is shaastra. Simple truth – thataata – isness – what is enlightenment? If you ask me now I will tell – Fan is moving, TVs are functioning, people are sitting, I am talking – this is enlightenment. That’s all! All the psycho drama you add on the things, persons, situations if they are deducted truth is revealed. The moment you start psycho drama of me being guru and I start the psycho drama of you being disciple, The moment you start psycho drama of friendliness to somebody, that person starts The moment you start psycho drama of friendliness towards you, same way enmity, pain, pleasure, love, anger towards persons, objects or reality is corruption. Otherwise in truth, in reality – shaastra yonitvaath. Reality is the origin about the truths about reality because it is Reality is the origin about the truths about reality because it has capacity to reveal truths about itself.

I tell you if you completely keep the truth about yourself open to the warm circle – means people whose breathing space you experience every day and whose breathing space you experience, people who enjoy your breathing space and who enjoy your breathing space – just completely reveal yourself to them – what you are, what you feel as you – the truths about you – reveal it to them. Even if some relationships are breaking in your life, you will roll so much and attract deeper personalities and you will attract eternal companions of your life. Not only that you yourself will experience deeper and deeper realities about you.

In West Bengal there is a great spiritual tradition called Bauls. In Bengali it means paul – mad. They stay usually as couples – couples means not just opposite sex. Sometime both will be male, sometime both will be female. They stay as pairs. They take a vow we will share the deepest truths about ourselves to each other! And they take a vow they will not allow anybody else to be in their breathing space and they also will not enter anybody else’s breathing space. It is a beautiful tradition in West Bengal. They will have a long stick on which they have a begging bowl. Even when they beg, they tell the person not to enter into their breathing space, put the food from there. Try this, it works actually.

Anybody who enters your breathing space – means friends, family, first circle, the warm circle – show utter naked truth about you to them – what is your feeling about life, about you, about them! You are afraid now I know ☺ so many people have to come back to ashram and stay here permanently if you do this. I know! But sometime as I said Vyasa does not give you any technique, he does not give you any homework, he takes away the home from you so that there is no homework! Vyaasa is dynamic dynamite diamond! That is why Vedantis have to always move out of the society because it is high measure of truth. The other day I was reading a slogan on the t-shirt – “Truth is a disease happens to you because of alcohol deficiency!” Reality is a illusion created because of alcohol deficiency! Reality is too much for society. But I tell you, fruit is too much for the root. But the foolish root does not understand fruit is the life for the root. Enlightened master is too much for society. But they don’t understand it is for my sake they are still alive. It is the fruit which justifies the existence of the root. It is for the fruit the root exists! Reality is too powerful for the society but the groups small groups which holds this reality as stream in their life are the juice of the earth. They are the salt of the earth. It is this kind of groups for which humanity is still kept alive without being destroyed. I tell you decide strongly anybody with whom I share my breathing space or who shares my breathing space I will be completely open & naked and truthful to them in all possible ways even if it brings dire consequences in my life. I can tell you it can surely bring only auspicious consequences. Either if the other person is understanding, you will become so intimate, if the other person is arrogant or unconscious at least you will not have that person in your life. You are free liberated. Liberation from illusory relationships is liberation from illusion itself! Liberation from illusory relationships is liberation from illusion itself!

At least the people who stay in monasteries should practice this. At least I should make this as a law for all people residing in my ashrams and temples who dedicates their life for enlightenment at my feet. Whoever dedicates, you should take this risk. After all, all the people who are staying in the ashram, if they are rishis both of them have dedicated their life to me. So they should have patience to see the reality & show your reality to them. If you are brahmachari you should reveal the truth you feel about you and other person to your friends. Any truth you feel about you and the other person should be revealed. Another one important thing, within few days the truth will change. Then reveal that. What you feel at this moment honestly about you, that person about that relationship reveal it. After 10 days you may have a different understanding – reveal that – have guts! Have guts to face the reality of you in front of you. Have guts to reveal the reality knowing whatever you reveal as reality now is going to change in few days or few hours or few minutes. This will make your relationship deeper, honest, truthful! If it breaks your relationship, good for you. You will grow.

Only truth has a capacity to reveal itself. So decide to reveal yourself completely open to everything. Know very clearly the chair on which you are sitting and telling a lie to somebody that chair is a witness and when somebody else sits on the same chair, and tell another one lie. That chair will send a message unconsciously to that person that you are lying. Then that person when he goes out he will not believe you. Everything records what you are talking. Reality is ‘isness’ what you think as reality – reveal, reveal, reveal so that your thinking about reality will deepen and deepen & deepen! Shaastra means truth about reality. Only the truth has a capacity, intelligence, courage to reveal the reality about itself! Only the reality has guts to reveal the truths about itself! Only Brahman reveals about the truth of its existence. In Sanskrit we have a very beautiful word – swayam prakaasa – self shining, self effulgent – by its existence it reveals its nature, its presence. Only the chaitanya reveals its presence by its own existence! You cannot hide chaitanya. How can you hide? Self effulgent cannot be hidden. Decide this as a first step – I will live like Brahman – reality. All the truth about me will be completely open and anybody comes will be able to read it. My life will be a open book. When your life is a open book, you become shaastra for others and for you. When you reveal the truths about you to others completely and honestly, understand, you will learn more than others about you. Start talking, start opening up you will see – suddenly you will start radiating so many wonderful, amazing ananda kalyana gunas – 1000s of auspicious energies and characters. And not only that, when a stone gets rotated in the flow of Ganges, it gets moulded beautifully as shiva linga. When your being gets beaten & rotated by telling the truth honestly and by revealing it to the world you will become a shiva linga! In the beginning it will be little difficult. 4 truths you may tell. But 5th one you will think – no, no not this one maybe this one will be dangerous, as if he is telling all truths. Come on, he is not asking for enlightenment, But you are asking for enlightenment – you want it, then it becomes your responsibility. So anybody who is your friend or relative completely be open to them. I tell you the delusion and illusion layers in you will be peeled off. I tell you, you will be liberated from the delusion and illusion of your life. You will live Brahman!

Shaastra yonitvaath! Truth has capacity to be the origin of revelations of itself! Sun shines and radiates because it does not have any dark patches inside. Moon will be afraid to radiate because its dark patches will be shown. Shine like a sun. Don’t be afraid of the dark patches which you carry. When you shine like a sun, the dark patches will be burnt. Only consciousness will have the ability to reveal about its nature. Matter does not have ability to reveal its nature. The fan cannot reveal about its nature, but electricity will reveal about its nature. Touch it and see– because electricity is life in this fan. Same way matter does not reveal its truths to you. Consciousness can reveal its truths to you. Be conscious. Reveal your own truths to you and to everybody. Radiate. Whatever you have as truth about you, don’t hide be that. Share. If the other person is capable and mature enough to be with that truth, the relationship will grow. Make it or break it! don’t think – no, no what will happen. Being stuck in a relationship for any other reason than growing together is prostitution! I am defining it. Being in any relationship for any other reason than for growing together is prostitution! I am defining not only as per me, as per Vedic tradition. Courageously I am taking the name of Vedic tradition because when you are getting married, you take this vow – let us help each other to reach fulfillment. I am giving one example of husband and wife relationship. But in every relationship radiate this truth - what you know about you – radiate it. Ordinary stone is a matter it is not shaastra yonitvaath means it is not self-effulgent and self-revealing about its existence and truth. But diamond is self-effulgent. It reveals about its own truth and existence. All of you have the diamond covered by the stone in you. Polish that part and let it shine till the stone part in you disappears. Use the diamond which is already shining to polish the diamond which is in you. That is what happens when Upanishad happens. When you sit with a master, master is a dynamic dynamite diamond. All the stone part of you is blasted out. Only the self-effulgent Shaastra yonitvaath the part in you which is only self-effulgent are only left in you to be!

Don’t be stuck in any friendship, any relationship other than the reason for growing together. It is a very courageous truth, a very strong truth but I need to tell. Another one important thing when you courageously take this step of revealing all truths with people with whom you are living, I can say it will lead you more and more auspiciousness. Because if other person is understanding, you grow together. If not, at least, you will be rid of it.

The reality is great because it reveals all the truths about its existence. Anything which reveals all the truths about itself by its existence is reality. It is great! Have this scale in your life. Anything which reveals all the truth about itself by its existence is reality, great! An enlightened being by his very presence and existence reveals all the realities about himself. In you there is a part of you which reveals all the truths about itself to you, that part is reality – consciousness, enlightenment. Shaastra yonitvaath – that part is God, Brahman, existence. In you there is some part which hides the truths about its reality – that is matter. The Brahma Sutras is almost like a fruit juicer. How the fruit is put on the juicer and you press it, press it to take the essence out of the fruit. Same way you will have to press yourself with the Brahma Sutras and press, press on you. I recommend you to take dry fruits – badams, nuts and ghee because your brain needs these to cool off and grasp these truths. Because when I say this – anything that exists in you and reveals itself to you it is truth - many parts of your brain will just open up! It will just click. You think - Yes. Many times, some parts of me reveals itself to me and others. Those moments I am in restful awareness. Other times, when I am not revealing I am suffering. If you are not reveling to people in your breathing space, slowly you will hide it from yourself too. That is what I call self-ignorance – atma ajnana! The failure of the life is when the atma ajnana becomes too much and you give up your capacity to stand away from the atma ajnana and fall from it. That is what I want to call as breaking down.

Break down in front of your reality. So that you will stand up! When you reveal all the truths which you know about you to all the people around you, suddenly you will be revealed to deeper and deeper layers of truth about you, to you by you. Those deeper and deeper realities revealed by you to you, will take you to the higher and higher spaces. You become shaastra yonitvaath. You become origin of the shaastra – shaastra means truth of reality. When you become Shaastra yonitvaath - the origin of the truths of reality, you are enlightened. That’s it!

What am I doing everyday? I just come and sit and go on revealing truths about me. that’s all. I wanted all of you to know, I am not speaking Brahma Sutras. I am just using that as a tool. I go on revealing truths about me. whatever I feel about me, I go on talking, go on revealing. That’s all. So I become shaastra yonitvaath – I become origin of the truths about reality. That is why every day I go on talking and still you feel I am talking something new. Because I have become origin about the truths about the reality, everyday all I do is sit and open one window to you of my inner space where I am living. Next day I come and open another window. That’s all. That is why it becomes just like a breathing for me. otherwise I tell you I will not dare to touch this Brahma Sutras because I neither know English nor Sanskrit or studied these sutras under somebody.

I am the one who created illusion of the universe to the universe! I am the one who plays with maya & lila! I am not really doing any big thing in morning satsang or evening satsang. I just come and sit & open a window. That’s it - for you to have a glimpse of cosmos. Existence reveals its truth about its existence continuously in reality! Go on grinding this truth in you today. It will not even be a simple fruit juicer kind of thing. No. it will be more like a diamond cutting. Go around and reveal all the truth about you with all the people with whom you are living – boldly, courageously. Revealing the truths about you, you become shaastra yonitvaath. You become the source of truths about reality, origin of truths about reality. You will have a kind of a tremendous restful awareness and freedom! Let the Upanishad happen in all of us. Let the truth shaastra yonitvaath be drilled into all of us! Just sit in Upanishad. No technique, meditation, process, no mantra, no japa, no visualization. No need even to close your eyes. If you feel like close or just sit with open eyes. Let the Upanishad happen!

Drill this truth into you – shaastra yonitvaath – be the origin of the truth about reality of your existence. Be the truth to everything and everything will be truthful to you. What you understand as truth, be honest to it. Deeper and deeper layers will be revealed to you. One important aspect of brahma vidya sampradaya is you should go out and start relating it to people around you, start working on it and sharing with people about it. Otherwise you will forget it. These are such strong truths. If you don’t drill it in your inner space, you will forget it.

So when you go out go on talking with people, share with people what you heard now. Transform others, convince others about these truths. You will be convinced with the truth in a deeper way. Transform others in the process you will be transformed! You don’t need any other technique or method. Just transform it to others. Otherwise what you heard will be forgotten by you. At least with few people talk. Don’t think by writing you will be able to remember. No. Talk. Only then you will understand how the truths get customized for you, for your situation. Now go out and open one window of you and show to the world, to everybody your inner space. If they are ready to look in it is worthy to be looked in, if not, make it worthy to look in! Blessings!
