Today’s subject is Renounce even if it is enlightenment! Just last 6 sutras. That is why Patanjali is just uttering whatever he wants to utter in the last moments, in the last few words. He is in the high pressure of delivering the ultimate. He just wants to say it in words. Whenever I am about to end my satsang I always feel still I am stuck in the throat. I feel there are some more words. So you throw all powerful words. I can very clearly understand Patanjali’s mood, anxiety, pressure with which Patanjali is just uttering words

191st Patanjali Yoga Sutra, 4th chapter 29th verse

Prasankhyane api aakuseetasya sarvataath viveka khyata dharma megha samadhihi

Again & again & again Patanjali is using the word Viveka. You see he has not missed a single sutra without the word Viveka. Because he is ending, he is trying to repeat all the keywords so that you carry it in your inner space as part of your experience.

Vivekananda’s editorial team - even when arriving at the right discriminating knowledge of the essence he who gives up the fruits and to him the samadhi called the cloud of virtue

Prabhavananda - he who remains undistracted even when he is in possession of all the psychic powers achieves as a result of his perfect discrimination that samadhi called cloud of virtue

Satchitananda - he who due to his perfect discrimination even in the highest rewards remains in constant discriminative discriminant called cloud of samadhi

Osho - one who is able to maintain a constant state of desirelessness even to the most exalted state of enlightenment and maintains discrimination enters the state of the cloud that showers virtue

Let me tell you a beautiful story which exactly describes this sutra. One great enlightened being an old master sitting under a banyan tree and for a long time he did tapas and became enlightened. After enlightenment he started blessing 1000s of people and showered so much of love, grace and he acquired so much of virtue punya because of his virtuous deeds. So all Gods gathered around him and they said ask whatever you want, we will give you. He said what do I want? I don’t need anything. I lost the mind which enjoys of suffers long before. So I have nothing to ask. Thank you. The Gods said no you have to ask something. We cannot go without giving you because too much of merit has gathered around you. You cannot say you don’t want anything because you will have more punya now. It is too much! We cannot allow this to happen. So you have to ask something. He just smiled and said alright if you guys force me that you have to give something. Let me have one boon let all the great auspicious things happen in me without even me being aware of it. Without even me knowing let all the auspicious things happen around me. Let all people receive good things, great things happen in people around me without even my interference, without even my knowing. I can say this is what I can call as Dharma megha samadhi – the cloud which showers virtues.

Osho translates this perfect. I can say Osho is a modern Panini in English. Osho gave a spiritual dimension in English. English was not ready to express Spirituality before Osho. English came out of a different consciousness. See Patanjali was a grammarian. So he gives the meanings to words. So he can use any word in any sutra and alter the grammar as he wants. He has the benefit. He is a poet and a grammarian. Usually poet will never be a grammarian and vice versa. Under the limitations of grammar you cannot compose poems. Grammarian will have tremendous freedom but he will not be expressing through poems. Here is a guy who is a poet, enjoys the space of a poet and enjoys the status of a poet and freedom of a grammarian.

I tell you honestly because I am concluding these sutras, but for Osho, I would not be able to catch the spirit of Patanjali in English! Osho contributed to the spiritual dimension of English. He created a new spiritual vocabulary in English. Dharma megha samadhi – a cloud which showers virtues! A perfect translation! Any other word cannot do justice. When I translate as cloud of virtue – you may ask cloud which covers the sun. Cloud has a very negative connotation. So cloud of virtue looks like a poor translation. Osho catches it! he says a cloud which showers virtue – this just shifts our imagination. It neither means cloud which covers. It just means the cloud which showers. See when I use cloud I can mean the cloud which covers or showers. Here he uses showers. Anybody who learns spiritual lessons, spiritual truths, technical knowledge about spiritual secrets is indebted to Osho. He is too much. But for him the philosophy of enlightenment, enlightenment based theologies, enlightenment based philosophies would have never got translated to English with such perfect words.

The other day I received an invitation to be a chief guest of an international Sufi conference. They said Swamiji you are perfect person to speak on Sufism. I asked do they know I am a Hindu Guru. They replied they saw my discourses and feel I am perfect for that. Then I said I read a few books in Sufi. But I was wondering how I could put my understandings of Sufism in English. I don’t want to disrespect their sentiments by using wrong words. All I did is I asked my editorial team did Osho speak on Sufism? They said yes Swamiji. Then I said okay tell them I will speak. Because now I know the right technical terms I can learn in English.

See I am in no way disrespecting Swami Vivekananda or others. I have great respect for them that is why I am repeating their name. But I really feel people who have only studied the word the cloud of virtue and who did not read this word a cloud which showers virtue have really lost something. The possibility of being with only one dimension is there for them. The keyword in this sutra Dharma megha samadhi is told in 2 ways – the cloud of virtue and the cloud which showers virtues. It is like if I bless with my right hand how it looks and left hand how it looks? Whatever sad and done, this right hand has to still be tuned to be graceful (as it has just recovered from a fracture). Same way the grace of presenting right words is different. Osho catches it! He says the cloud which showers virtue! – exact description. No possibility of narrow understanding or one dimension understanding. See it is a joy when you see the technical terms are translated with a perfect possible visualization!

Yesterday one of the journalist called my secretary said Sir still Swamiji is in my mind, still his words are ringing in my ears! With the right words technical terms when you catch the truth, I tell you with that very understanding something opens up in you.

I have seen in my life when the right words click in me, that moment I have experienced a deep samadhi, restful awareness, joy. J. Krishnamurthy gave to many of his disciples this kind of samadhi - with right words, with right logic describing this. Naturally people can experience the knots in their heart just gets released and unclutching happens. In Yoga it is called opening the Medhaa naadi – the nerve of intelligence – wisdom. But unfortunately, his disciples were not preparing the body along with the mind. So those satoris, those experiences could not stay permanently in them. For J. Krishnamurthy himself his mentors worked with him and all his medha naadis became permanent in him. Each medhaa naadi opening is like opening of one snake head in you. When 1000s of medha naadis open in you, 1000s of snake heads open in you. Like Patanjali himself – 1000 headed snake. But unfortunately J. Krishnamurthy’s disciples the body was not ready, mind only was prepared. Then they get the click wow he is right and the click happens. But it will stay only for a few hours and left them. Again and again same thing.

When J. Krishnamurthy says listening is God, right listening is god. He is right. But to be with God you cannot be continuously listening at least in those days you could not do that. Now you have ipods and other things. The only one thing that J. Krishnamurthy’s disciples need is eNfitness training. Nothing else. I tell you honestly the perfect technical terms I can say I just now paid my gratitude to Osho. Many of the traditional texts he translated and interpreted. If I have to say without even referring to scriptures just a pure science of enlightenment means proper technical English words means J. Krishnamurthy. His disciples just missed the nervous system to keep the truths alive eternal in him. That is the only thing they missed. Otherwise if you see oh God! This British English how some of the Western guys have used Sanskrit to destroy our tradition. Same way J. Krishnamurthy used English to destroy the western culture because he has presented the science of enlightenment so beautifully in English. Anybody who taught Sanskrit to Max Muller will repent because of the destruction he brought to Sanskrit and to the eastern culture. Same way anybody who taught English to J. Krishnamurthy will repent because of the destruction he brought to English and to the western culture. He is the diamond for the east. When you listen to the right word, suddenly the medha naadi in you opens means understanding in you opens. For next few hours you will float with that understanding.

Actually today I am starting the secret of enlightenment series! 1000 petal lotus is a symbol of that. That is why today I have this background (refers to backdrop behind his chair) From success to sanyas, management to meditation – everything all dimensions when you listen through proper words, it lights up your medha naadi. Whether it is about management or meditation, about success or sanyas, about excellence or enlightenment, about health or healing whatever it may be if you listen by a proper logic from a proper logic with proper words your medha naadi – nerve of wisdom opens!

Here a very beautiful word – a cloud which showers virtue. Let us enter into the sacred secrets from this sutra. What exactly Patanjali wants you to know from this sutra – hold on to your discrimination even beyond enlightenment, go on renouncing, renouncing, renouncing - you will see the cloud which shows virtue will be constantly showering on you. That’s all. I can say from my own life it is continuously showering on me! Even after enlightenment, renounce, renounce, renounce!

Tyaage naike amrutatva maanasu – renunciation is the only way to be established in the eternal principle amrutatva the immortal principle. Even after enlightenment, just be established in renunciation amrutatva. I tell you the cloud which showers virtue, will always be showering on you as long as you are established in Sarvataa viveka akhuteetasya api

I am trying to converse the same sutra in prose and trying to present it to you. My Sanskrit teacher had a strong support to karma kanda – poorva meemamsa – the action based. There are two categories – 1. Poorva meemasa – the action based philosophy, 2. Uttara meemamsa – the restful awareness based philosophy. The whole Vedanta is uttara meemamsa – restful awareness based. Now I feel both are equally necessary in a very united way for a quick and complete enlightenment. But in those days I was biased to restful awareness based. I was against the karma kanda – the action based. See your inertness should be destroyed by the action based poorva meemasa and your restlessness should be destroyed by the restful awareness based uttara meemasa. So I started arguing with him. It went on and on. He said if you want the spiritual ultimate you should get married like me. I said teach the language not your ideas. I ended the class that day and that is where my Sanskrit ended!

Let me tell you exactly - always being established in discrimination even when the exalted states of enlightenment happens in you. Even with the extraordinary experiences and powers expresses through your body. Even when you experience levitation or don’t experience levitation renounce it is okay. One thing I am relieved because yesterday I proved even people who do not levitate their brain is also awakened and experiences the same transformation. Otherwise there is a huge chunk of people in the ashram eating my brain asking me when will I levitate. What can I do? I cannot put chili inside you and make you move! ☺ Anyhow, I am revived whether your body moves or not, whether your body levitates or not, your brain undergoes transformation and the jagrath sushupthi is happening and recorded in your brain.

Sometime your system, bio memory are also trusting my presence. So it naturally tries to respond by moving the body. But sometime your consciousness which cannot deny my presence will imbibe me but your bio memory will not immediately trust. It may be waiting. Those types of bodies will not feel light, they will feel heavy. You will not levitate but gravitate. That will also be an extraordinary feat. I told many times whether you levitate or not the same effect is produced in you. The essence of what I want to tell you from this sutra is go on renouncing – Tyaage naike amrutatva maanasu!

Except renunciation there is no way for immortality. The cloud which showers virtues showers on you constantly when you renounce continuously – unclutch. When I say viveka, tyaga , renouncing, don’t mistake this with outer world renunciation alone ,no. that is a poor substitute. I mean renouncing your mind. Renunciation - tyaaga, discrimination means not having thick head. Renouncing your mind which is a big headache, big weight on you. So the essence is go on establish on discrimination. You will see the cloud which showers virtues will be there showering on you. Now sit for few minutes renouncing, discriminating. Let the Kundalini Awakening happen in all of you. Let you all experience the powerful unclutching and tyaaga, viveka as described by Patanjali.
