celebration of lights Kartheekai Deepam. In the vedic tradition today is the day of light; the conscious light awareness. We celebrate the consciousness and its awareness. One of the expression of consciousness awareness. Please understand awareness is one of the expression of consciousness; not consciousness itself. Consciousness expresses in many way, one is awareness. One of the oldest celebration in vedic tradition is this Karthikai deepam festival. In north they call it Dev Deepavali.

It’s a very powerful understanding which is celebrated in this day. Morning they light one light in the, in front of the main energy center in each city. Each city has energy center in vedic tradition. We call it garbha mandir or brahma randra. Each city has its own garbha mandir, brahma randra, based on that the vaasthu line is drawn and with that the whole city gets developed. See all over Bharat all major cities will be developed around a temple. We call that as brahma sthana or garbha mandir. Each city, you name it, I can tell very clearly there will be a brahma sthana, garbha mandir. Around that the whole city will develop; all big cities in Bharat. Still there are hundreds of cities in Bharat, there is a law you can’t build taller structure than the temple tower; you can’t build taller structure than the temple tower.

Today is Devi’s enlightenment day. Today is the day Shiva appeared as light beam, the consciousness, to Brahma and Vishnu. Brahma is the highest intellectual possibility. Vishnu is the highest infrastructural possibility. Please understand matter has two part; mind and physique. Mind also is matter. Matter has two part; mind and physique. The highest possibility in the mind is Brahma. Highest possibility in the physical realm is Vishnu. Both of them thought they are the ultimate. Usually it happens when you reach something extraordinary in any one field you just feel, done, you are the highest. So Shiva has to liberate them give them enlightenment; the ultimate. The ultimate compassion Ashutosha means easily pleased, bhole baba means innocent; very innocent way he will give away. So as usual in his innocent way he has to bless and liberate them.

He appears as a huge deepa stamba, light shaft in front of Brahma and Vishnu. Says any one of you find the head or tail of the, any one end of this deepa stamba is the greatest person. So immediately Brahma starts flying up. The intellect starts going up. And Vishnu starts going down. The whole search starts. It goes on and on and on. Brahma really feels he will not be able to find but he is not able to give up his ego. He is not able to surrender. Vishnu also realizes he will not be able to make it. But one nice thing about the matter is, the failure is clearly informed to you. You understand the failure.

Vishnu comes back and surrenders and says it’s not possible, I realized. Consciousness, you are the greatest and the ultimate possibility in the matter, the wealth, Lakshmi cannot give ultimate enlightenment. It cannot give ultimate possibility. It’s a great thing, having wealth is great, nothing wrong. But that itself is not the purpose of life. That itself is not the ultimate. It’s just an utility, good utility; having good food, good clothes, good education, good medical care and good infrastructure to stay is perfect; great, but not ultimate. But unfortunately this Brahma goes up, up, up, up, up he sees a flower coming down. He catches that flower and asks where are you from. The flower says Shiva kept me in his ears. So from the ear I am falling and going down. Brahma says will you do me a favor, after all you are going down, I'll take you and tell Shiva that I came up to the ears and brought you. The flower says no problem that’s perfect; I can do a favor to you. What is there?

This is what is that disciple - disciple relationship; telling a lie to master and another one favoring. Not telling the truth to the master and just hiding another disciples problem is the worst crime he will do. Not only you will put him in trouble, you will also be in big trouble; the disciple - disciple relationship. Flower said I will do it. So Brahma picked up the flower and he was coming down. On the way in the conversation Brahma asked I just wanted to know how long you are travelling from years. The flower said, no, just the four Brahmas age I am falling. This guy had the shock. O God! To reach the ears of Shiva I need four Brahmas life. Then how can I tell I brought you from the ears. Flower says I also don’t know. If you tell I will just stand and say ok. So they tried to play their foolish game and Brahma comes down and says, Mahadeva I reached your head. From your ears I brought this flower see; witness. Shiva asked what do you say about it. That flower said yes, yes, he brought me from the ears.

Shiva just opens his third eye. Immediately Brahma is shaken. Brahma knows after all he can’t hide. And Shiva curses, because of your lying unstable structure nobody will worship you in the planet earth and you will not be the measuring scale for anything. That is why the mind can never be a measuring scale for anything in the world. Even for your spiritual growth your mind can never be a measuring scale. Because morning it will show you are in ecstasy; already enlightened. Evening it will tell you ... you and enlightenment whom are you cheating. Brahma, understand the in charge of your mood swing is Brahma. So even if you are caught with Vishnu, great, don’t worry you will finally fall at the feet and get enlightened. Never get caught with Brahma. Because the swing Brahma does is unimaginable. Just like the tongue it can speak anything into anything. It can tell anything into anything. Mind hmmm.....

Shiva curses Brahma that no temple. That is why Brahma has no temple. And this flower Shiva says you will not be worshipped any more for my worship; for my puja. You will not be used in my puja anymore. So naturally after the curse both of them come to senses. They cry, beg. Then Shiva says, alright wherever my charanamruta falls, stand there and continuously every day drink that charanamruta so that your tongue will become pure. So that is the reason in all temples where Shiva’s charanamruta falls Brahma will be standing and he will be drinking and sprinkling and filling his kamandalu. With that charanamruta only he creates the world. He runs, he creates the whole universe and whatever little bit of stability is in the mind is because of charanamruta of Shiva. As long as you drink the vachanamruta and charanamruta you will not have the effect of Brahma on you.

That is why shastras fail to liberate people. They fail to make you understand the last push can never be by you. It can only help you to a certain level; nothing more than that. Shastras fail; that is why just the shastras just the mind can never liberate you. So the vachanamruta and charanamruta only can make you stable and liberate. That’s why Brahma is always standing in all temples near the gomukha; where the charanamruta and vachanamruta falls he will be standing and purifying himself. And that flower continuously did penance. Finally Shiva said maybe only one day on Shiva Rathri day I will accept, you will be used for my worship. He gives shapa vimochana.

Today is the day when Shiva stood as the light beam and from today to Shivarathri, Brahma and Vishnu were searching. On Shivarathri day they come back and surrender and declare their inability and Shivarathri day is the day Shiva blesses Vishnu and liberates and punishes Brahma and finally liberates him. Today is the celebration in memory of that Big Bang. Another one surprising thing you need to understand, in the vedic calendar they predict the time, date, calendar, about the past, future, everything. The oldest constellation they are able to predict is this Kartheekai deepam. Today what is the star se tup, this is the oldest they are able to predict. They are not able to go beyond. So maybe you can say as per the vedic calendar today is the first day, today’s constellation is the oldest constellation they are able to push their intelligence, beyond this they are not able to push. Their calculation method is failing. So in a way the time started from today, the Big Bang happened today, the time started today. The concept of time started today. Beyond today the concept of time does not exist. So from now the concept of time has started. From today the concept of time started. That is why this is the oldest festival.

I can understand the consciousness when it stood as a light beam and created time, matter, everything, that’s what we call Big Bang, that is why the vedic rishis are also able to predict only till today’s constellation, star setup. Beyond today they are not able to go. I was really surprised when I studied read an article related to this subject. I thought after all prediction is just a formula. You can go, go, go; just it’s a circle. How can that circle stop at some point? I was really shocked. They are able to very clearly logically prove that beyond this constellation anything they try to do, the formula is not working out. The formula fails.

So the formula about time which we have in vedic system is able to predict; the last day of constellation they are able to predict is Karthikai deepam. This means the poornima krittika nakshatra both merging and appearing on the same day; Poornima tithi and kritika nakshatram. When they try to go beyond the formula is not able to give the consistent result. Formula fails. So whatever vedic tradition knows about time starts from the day of poornima and krittika nakshatras juncture.

Today is the day Devi became enlightened. In Arunachala the festival is celebrated in a very big way. Devi does her great penance of pancha tapas panchagni tapas to achieve enlightenment; to become one with Shiva. And evening when the sunsets and the moon rises Shiva appears as the light, pure consciousness and gives the half to Devi and Devi realizes her masculine part and she becomes Ardhanareeshwara; means part of Shiva. So if you are in the male body, if you realize your feminine part, you are enlightened. If you are in the female body if you realize your masculine part, you are enlightened. If you realize the other part, you are liberated; enlightened. You experience the same thing what Devi has experienced.

This ten days of Brahmotsavam, each day Shiva liberates. Shiva gives enlightenment to one, one person. The whole ten day festival is all about giving enlightenment to different people. The first day; Adigaranandi Nandi receives enlightenment. The next day Indra and Devathas they receive enlightenment. That is why in the first day festival Shiva will come on the Nandi vahana; Adigara nandi, the second day on Indra vimana. When Indra gets liberated he puts his vimana, flight, as a offering to Mahadeva. So he comes around second day in procession of Indra vimana. Third day Patanjali naga vahana, Patanjali gets enlightened; so Shiva comes in naga vahana.

Fourth day Kamadhenu and Kalpavriksha, both of them get enlightened. Vashishta offers both of them. Vashishta, saptha rishis get enlightened. So after their enlightenment Vashishta offers Kamadhenu and Kalpataru to Shiva. So fourth day he comes on Kamadhenu and Kalpatharu. Fifth day all the Shivacharyas, the people who touch his body and worship, Thirumeni, whoever touches the deity they are all liberated. He comes in the Rishabha on the Nandi and liberates all the Shivacharyas. Sixth day he goes around in the chariot, silver chariot and the top two lokas; the Gandharva and Yaksha loka. Gandharva loka and Yaksha loka are described as a silver colored lokas; moon based. Deva loka and Vaikunta are described as sun based, solar; golden color. All the moon based lokas he goes around in silver chariot and liberates them.

Seventh day he comes in a wooden chariot and liberates the whole Bhoo loka, wood belongs to Bhoo loka; the human consciousness. He comes in the wooden chariot, whoever has his darshan he liberates all of them and eighth day he comes as a Bhikshadana and liberates all the rishis, ninth day for rakshasas. Yesterday was for the rakshasas; he liberates Ravana. The ninth day Shiva will come in the vahana of Ravana; Kailasha vahana. Ravana will be lifting the Kailasha; that is the vahana he will come. He liberates all the demons; even the demons are given enlightenment, liberation, through Shiva bhakti.

Ravana was initiated into Ananda Gandha by Mahadeva Shiva. Fool had only satori, did not work for enlightenment; samadhi. On the way he got diverted. That’s why Rama has to go and kill. Even Rama was not able to kill him. Only attacking him in Ananda Gandha Rama was able to kill him. The amrita kalasha was there on Ananda Gandha only when that broke Rama was able to kill him. But anyhow Rama because he killed the Shiva bhakta, Shiva’s devotee, brahma hatye came on him and he has do Shiva puja in Rameshwara to liberate himself from that brahma hatye. Shiva liberates Ravana and liberates Rama also from the brahma hatya dosha. Ninth day Shiva liberates all demons.

The tenth day is the day Devi becomes part of Shiva; Ardhanareeshwara. Today is the day he liberates the whole cosmos. Devi is representative of the whole cosmos; universe. He blesses the whole universe. It’s a very powerful truth. Whatever has expanded from him he just takes them all back and gives them the feeling you are my part; reuniting, reunion. So all the lamps which has become different, this is the prakruti Devi, by evening all of them come back and become one with the purusha. That is what the Devi becoming Ardhanareeshwara; the prakruthi becoming purusha is the celebration.

So let you all become Ardhnareeshwaras. Experience purusha consciousness, become one with Shiva. Let you all achieve, experience, live, express, radiate the eternal bliss, Nithyananda.
