Q: Swamiji, why scandals are so much liked by population?

A: Because it is a scandal. Mass does not like truths. Mass likes the masala added to the truth. I have seen when people pick up big, big spiritual books, they don’t read all the books, all the material in the book, the content in the book. But they go to the afterward or foreword and read some ideas about the book, or about the person. See, the mind is always such that it does not want the truth or the spiritual experiences. It wants something very sensationalistic, some masala added to the truth. I have seen many times.

Just the other day I was in the Bhagavat Gita satsang in Coimbatore, thousands of people were sitting in the satsang. One lady suddenly started getting up, old lady, she just got up and started running out of the crowd. And the whole crowd stood up and started watching her. I said if a newspaper writes thousands of people gathered in the satsang for Bhagavad Gita, it won’t be a news. But if they write there was some disturbance in the satsang, it will become a great news.

So by nature mass likes sensationalistic, the fear and greed based messages. See, whenever there is news about terrorism, war your anger, your vengeance, your violence indirectly gets satisfied. That is why we always enjoy horror movies. It should not happen directly to you, but it is happening to somebody. Enjoying the fantasies related to fear and greed is the basic tendency of human mind. Same way somebody else’s sex. Scandal’s about somebody else’s sex life.

See the people they don’t dance but 24 hours lying down on the couch they watch somebody else dancing in the movie, dancing in the scene. So it like a .. people enjoy rumors, lies, news added with spice, masala about other’s life. Very sensationalistic it should be. Then they really enjoy. First thing people are deeply interested in sex, second thing some idea, some rumor, some twisted thing about other’s sex life. They enjoy deeply. That is the human mind.

That is why so much of magazines, newspapers, media, TV, electronic media, print media so much just to talk about somebody else’s life. Just to talk about some scandal. And people enjoy the news about other’s life especially when it is twisted, added, sensationally presented. It is an art. Kind of an art how to present things in a very sensationalistic way. Instead of presenting it in a simple way, telling it in a big way. So people enjoy, so mass unconscious mass enjoys this kind of scandals. But one thing, always the people whose pratya kaatma chaitanya has awakened, the individual consciousness is awakened they do not get away, they are not taken away, they are not lost in these rumors, in these scandals.

I am getting hundreds and thousands of emails and phone calls and messages from all over the world, not only from our devotees and disciples, everybody all the people who can intelligently think individually, independently, they are saying, ‘How can some people enjoy some rumors and ideas about other’s personal life? So dirty. So ugly.’ We can’t imagine, society still carries so much of ugliness in it. But what to do? Always the unconscious mass enjoys some ideas and rumors about other’s personal life, and others.. twisted information about other’s personal life. When is twisted and presented in a different way, mass enjoys.

And mass always feel empty inside. Unconscious people always feel so empty inside. They need something to make life colorful, juicy. They are just searching for information, searching for something. ‘Ah! He is suffering, let him suffer.’ It is a kind of a ‘I should not be in his shoes, but he should be suffering.’ So, kind of a ….unconscious mind. Unconscious mind always enjoys some scandals. The funny thing is people who get caught in scandals, even they enjoy some scandals come out others. That is the funny thing. It is the mind, the mind.

So I don’t understand this concept of fame and defame. I was the most watched Guru in the You tube, within 24hrs most watched scandal in the internet. And both are making me rich and intelligent, and spiritually rich, intelligent and more blissful. It is like a, ‘Life is opening itself every moment to me. First it is opening one dimension – the unconsciously the unconscious people praising. Same way, life opens another one dimension unconsciously unconscious people blaming. So it is a different, different dimensions.’ So I am neither interested in defamation lawsuits. And first of all I do not understand defamation concept.

I feel only one thing. People were asking me the other day, ‘oh, you may not feel about this defamation and all that. But all the people who were supposed to come to you and have the spiritual enlightenment and experience, they all will be lost now. Nobody will come to you now. They will all be misguided. I don’t feel that way. I personally very strongly feel whatever strong experience I am carrying, whatever capacity I am having to reproduce that experience into the people, the strength of this experience, the ability to reproduce itself will bring whoever needs to have this experience around me. That’s all. It is simple.

It was just people who experienced went around, and through the experiences of the people the whole thing happened around me. I never had a marketing department and built this. If I had a marketing department and built this I will be afraid, ‘Oh God everything is lost. Now how will I recreate? I never had a marketing department. I know only one thing a strong experience which does not need any marketing. The Vedic tradition and the strong experience which I experienced and which I reproduced in so many people, does not need any marketing department. And I never created anything out of this marketing department. Same way, I don’t feel anything will be lost.

Like the other day I heard somebody was telling me, some of the organizers who were volunteering like organizers. And one guy it seems he commented, ‘I think last maybe one year or something swamiji lost his powers.’ I was laughing. How can…..?

First thing, divine powers can be lost but divinity can never be lost. I never had any divine powers. I always had divinity in me. I never expressed any powers. I never showed any powers. From the beginning I had only divinity. That divinity was expressing in many ways. It was expressing some powers also, in many ways it was expressing. So whatever was expressing, it was expressing. I never lost anything. They themselves project and see that I had something. Now they themselves feel that I lost that. So it is their thing.

Maybe these kind of unconscious people too many people have started gathering around me, so existence want existence wants that, ‘No I should not be wasting my time with these kind of people. And these kind of people also no need to waste my time.’ So maybe the existence is giving them also little rest and for me also little rest. Otherwise I am very clearly seeing all the people who are strongly radiating enlightenment are around me. And around the world suddenly a new group of people who never knew about me are coming around me. And so it is time to radiate enlightenment, to radiate enlightenment.
