subject is ‘seer, seen, & seeing.’ One imp truth is all three are lies. There is no seer, no seen, no seeing. Understand this truth – seen, seer, seeing – any religion which declared there is no seen is introvert religion. Groups which declared there is no seer – materialists. The groups which declared there is no seeing – Buddhists. But the groups which declared there is none of these 3 are ultimate vedantins. Patanjali explains this deeper secrets of seen, seer and seeing.

Raghupati yogi is an amsavatara of pantajali. Means one part of patanjali was raghupati yogi. Patanjali has written a commentary on Panini’s sutras. It is a dictionary and grammar book. For one word, in those days, in diff parts of the country one meaning was given. This patanjali – how he had access to each community’s each words…if you analyize the bhashya, it is proved that he has studied atleast 316 communities and has given complete understanding of every single word in 316 communities languages!

It is difficult to imagine how this genius master created this maha bashya. It is an extraordinary work. I wanted you to have an idea of the brain from which all this has come out. Only 3 of his books are available – 1- Ayurveda for body – science of life (body), 2 – Panini mahabashya (vaak), 3 – Patanjali Yoga sutras (for being). If you read his commentary on Sanskrit grammar, you will understand what kind of a brain he is. I really suspected, it may be a group of disciples who wrote and commonly titled it as Patanjali. But I could not even accept that idea, because the continuity of the language used. It is written by a single person beginning to end. In any intellectual line, people cannot match. If they match, someone’s ego is compromised. But here there is such a synchronized collection. There is no loudness. It is just a flow through out. Still unimaginable brain – extraordinary genius.

Communication started with Sanskrit. It is the root & mother of all languages.

His opinion on the philosophy of seen, seer, seeing is what we will discuss now. Krishna, Jesus, Shiva, Shankara who founded his whole system on this all spoke about this. In western countries, skyscrappers are their pride. Likewise, in Bharat, if you look internally, each city is filled with many such philosophies!

I have seen a swami in Ramakrishna Mutt, belur who has studied katopanishad for 35 years. Each community has dedicated itself for one idea – one spiritual book. If you look at Bharat, we have an extraordinary internal infrastructure. I can say each truth or each of these books are skyscrappers of our civilization.

All over the world, all predictions are predicting that the world is going to end! Web bard also says 2012 is the end of time. Everyone is asking me. I am not predicting. I am telling you what is going to happened. First thing, there is no physical calamity or danger as Hollywood movies are showing. No. Don’t worry there will be no physical calamity. But the world is going to end in a diff way. Ppl living in a lower consciousness will end. A new consciousness will come to exist. The very idea you have of life will become suddenly different. That is exactly what will happen in 2012. Such an extraordinary conscious evolution will happen. The idea of life will become different.

If I describe each philosophical truth of Ganges civilization as one skyscraper, this seeing, seer, seen is the tallest skyscraper. Then understand the importance of this truth. Here it is being expressed by the greatest architect Patanjali.

The sutra is :

Drith darshana saktyoho ekata atmata aiva asmitha.

Vivekananda: Egoity is the identification of the seer with the instrument of seeing.

Prabhavananda: To identify consciousness with that which merely reflects consciousness. This is egoism.

Egoism is the identification as it were, the power of the seer with that of the instrument of the seeing.

They used few words – so only one dimension got translated. I will use more words to open up many dimensions of this.

The truth is – the consciousness which perceives when it identifies itself with the perceiving it is ego. For eg. So many hours I am continuously talking thru this mike. So by and by, the mike started thinking it is giving discourse or ppl start feeling that the sound is coming from the mike. Constantly, the seer because he is using an instrument for seeing, mistaking the instrument as himself is ego. Pl understand, your eyes are not seeing – you are seeing thru the eyes. In the whole ashram, everybody feels they are over loaded, they did this, did that – I am the only one who thinks I am not doing anything. Egoism is the seer by mistake feeling the instrument thru which he is seeing as himself. Patanjali is such a technical guy, about any subject you ask opinion, he will give solution. He just says seer identifying himself with the instrument with which he is seeing it is ego. Becos he identifies thus, the seeing, seer and seen exist.

One king saw a dream of he being chased by a wild forest tiger. In the dream itself he ran to his astrologer to find out the significance. (Kings carry their kingdom even into their dream, masters don’t bring their kingdom even in the waking state – that is why they don’t bother even if it is taken away becos they never owned it in the 1st place.)

So this king goes to astrologer and he gives his opinion. He goes for 2nd opinion, then to a vastu consultant. Then in the dream itself he goes to a gemology consultant. Each consultant is giving his own opinion. He goes to the Raja guru, enlightened master – he just slaps and says ‘wake up. ’ Do not bother about the seen, seer and the seeing. Just notice where the ‘you’ which is perceiving everything starts feeling the instrument through which you are seeing as one. For eg. Your eyes are not seeing, you are seeing thru them. So look into the truth – when do you experience instead of the truth you are seeing thru the eyes, when did the unconscious slip happens that eyes are seeing. This slip is the ego. This is the technical knowledge you need to have. If you sit with the awareness even now – that – You are seeing though these two instruments. Sit with that one idea – you will just see a different thing in your understanding about you. But when you slip from that and feel I am seeing – that is ego.

Maybe I can add one more statement for inspiration – how it feels when you stand on the top of this truth, experiencing this truth – nothing is seen – that’s all!

I tell you, I am not seeing you all. For eg, if any of you sit in this throne and see what you will see, I am not seeing. Then what am I seeing? That is today’s koan.

Alright, I will tell it to you now. It is like this. If you sit in this throne and see, it is like in a projector screen, one person sitting and watching a movie. In my case, I understand that both are in the same movie! when you see, you are one frame and the seen is one frame. When I am seeing, the seer and the seen both are in the same frame – so there is no act of seeing happening! When the seer and the seen are 2 diff frames, seeing happens. When the seer and the seen are in the same frame, there is no seeing.

Then what is swamiji seeing? If you just sit with it, this chaotic logic will awaken your inner space. This is what we call ‘vignanamaya kosha bhedana’ – penetrating your logical sense making ideas and opening the seer to the seen directly without your logical sense making superficial censoring logic.

George Gujeff was a great successful enlightened master who made people enlightened by breaking their vignanamaya kosha. He would drink 20 wine bottles and walk on a tight rope on his hands. One side of his face he will be expressing strong fiery anger, the other side deep friendly compassion. Means the vignanamaya kosha bhedana has happened. It has broken. He just can play with th e ideas of seeing, seer and seen. He can show any scene to any person. His body was so much under his control that he could just shake the idea of ppl’s seeing, seer and seen. Knowingly or unknowingly, fortunately or unfortunately, extraordinary powerful beings land on planet earth. The place where they land, makes a major imp. Decision of how this energy is going to be used in construction or destruction of humanity. Like hitler. He is an unfortunate happening of higher energy in a wrong place. The place where the energy lands has a major role in the philosophy that the energy would express.

George Gurjiff is a rare incarnation. Anything extraordinary attracts attention. Anything which ppl cannot understand ppl create a scandal. But masters are both extraordinary and un understandable at its peak.

When you slip from the truth that the seer is seeing thru the instrument and identifies with the instrument then the seer, seen and seeing exist and is the base and root cause of all suffering.

The process now you need to do is – Tatata – Isness. Who is perceiving thru the senses. Just sit without thinking about the seeing, without giving attention to the seer and the seeing. Just is. All three will disappear into one – that is called Thatata. No perception, no perceiver, no perceived. Thatata – just sit. Do not perceive, see, hear, smell with any instrument such as eyes, ears, tongue and skin. Don’t differentiate between these 3 of seen, seer and seeing – Thataata. If the seeing, seer or seen is there for a moment let it be. Just say okay to them and just be – Thataata – Isness. Just remember this one truth – Thataata – Isness.
