“Sadashiva samarambam, Jnana Sambandhaacharya madhyamam asmadacharya paryantam vande Guru paramparam!”
Let us enter into today's Satsang. In Bhagavad Gita, 5th chapter, Sanyaasa Yoga, 2nd verse –
“sri-bhagavan uvaca sannyasah karma-yogas ca | nihsreyasa-karav ubhau tayos tu karma-sannyasat karma-yogo visisyate ||”
Translation – “Krishna says – both abstinence and diligence in intense action are excelling path ways but among the two diligence is more useful and preferable than giving up actions”
What a paradox you see. The chapter name is Sanyaasa yoga. Bhagavan’s first lines, first words, first teachings.
“sri-bhagavan uvaca sannyasah karma-yogas ca | nihsreyasa-karav ubhau tayos tu karma-sannyasat karma-yogo visisyate ||”
Bhagavan says very beautifully both abstinence and diligence in intense action are excelling path ways. You need to understand even this statement. Completely giving up actions even in mind or completely becoming action. Understand not even doing action, becoming action. Means your inner space, your words, your body completely the whole thing becoming action is also a great path. Both are excellent pathways for enlightenment. Whether the path of giving up the action, one important thing you need to know whether giving up of action or becoming action, both are excellent pathways. Bhagavan says among the two diligence in action means becoming I intense action is more useful and preferable than giving up actions.
Then we need to list out. Why? Why is this so? First thing, you need to know first reason – giving up of actions completely is almost impossible for you because you are basically driven by fear and greed. You may give up the actions which your ego does not like but you may not give up actions itself. For example, I have seen many people who run away from the organization from our sangha they think they will give up actions and become a sanyaasi. But in two months I have seen they will give up only the actions which are hurting their ego. Not all the actions. Please understand that you need to do exactly the actions which is hurting your ego. Giving up of action does not mean you will give up partially. Only the actions which are hurting your ego you will give up and you will keep all other actions. No. giving up of actions means even the actions of the mind should be given up. Complete unclutching from the body and mind. Naturally for a human being it is not that easy. That is why Bhagavan says diligence of action, perfect action, intense action is really useful, is really powerful, is really great. That can be a beaut way to achieve the ultimate.
Please understand,
“sannyasah karma-yogas ca |nihsreyasa-karav ubhau
tayos tu karma-sannyasat karma-yogo visisyate ||”
How much ever you try, inaction is never possible. That is why I don’t give much preference to that path. Maybe in the name of inaction and sanyaas you can become lazy, arrogant. Not only that when you stop doing actions that hurts your ego and doing actions which do not hurt your ego, please understand you develop a laziness which creates a very deep suffering and unnecessary psychological torture lands you up in a very big mess. Each and every being which feels the individual identity, individual identity has to execute, has to experience diligence in action. Inaction, laziness destroys not only your mind, mind’s capabilities, it destroys your very body. It destroys your very body. Evolve in a place where you are constantly inspired towards diligence in action. Please understand one of the worst thing happened to all our Hindu sanyaasa sampradaayas Hindu monasteries the wrong understanding of inaction, the wrong understanding of sanyaas. We think giving up the action is the easiest path. But unfortunately finally we end up giving up the actions which hurts our ego not really giving up the actions.
Bhagavan Sri Krishna is very clear. That is why he says very beautifully –
“sannyasah karma-yogas ca |nihsreyasa-karav ubhau
tayos tu karma-sannyasat karma-yogo visisyate ||”
Both abstinence and diligence in intense action are excelling but among the two diligence is more useful and preferable than giving up of actions.” Constantly again & again & again & again Bhagavan is insisting, emphasizing on diligence in action, intense action. Even in Karma yoga , 8th verse –
“niyatam kuru karma tvam karma jyayo hy akarmanah | sarira-yatrapi ca te na prasiddhyed akarmanah ||”
Translation - “You constantly keep performing, for, execution is far greater than being unproductive. If you remain idle, even the maintenance of the body cannot be accomplished!”
I tell you intense action is Shiva. Intense action brings all the auspiciousness to your body, to your mind. Go on, go on, go on evolving through the intense action. In inimitable style, Bhagavan is insisting the importance of diligence in action. This is such a beautiful verse.
I am just intensely looking into this verse. I add anything more? Update anything more. But I feel very clearly Bhagavan has given perfect lines! Nothing more can be added.
