“Let us enter into today’s shiva sutra.”
Let us enter into today’s shiva sutra.
Consider your essence as light rays rising from center to center up to the vertebrae and so rises livingness in you.
I can say this sutra is essence of visualization techniques. There are so many different kind of methods. This sutra is dhyana sutra. In the three category of nithya, dhyana, ananda sutras, this is dhyana sutra. Means you need to understand, internalize, and specifically allot few moments of your day to experiment with it or experience it.
Consider your essence as light rays rising from center to center up to the vertebrae, so rises livingness in you.
This technique is the base for the whole kundalini tradition. There are thousands of kundalini awakening methods. Kundalini is the potential energy which you carry inside you. If that energy is awakened naturally, automatically, the non-mechanical parts of your brain will be awakened. The awakening of the kundalini is a very powerful process, very powerful process. Many methods, many techniques, many traditions talk about this. One important thing you should know; with a living master this awakening the kundalini is very easy and safe. Without a living master, it’s like a working with the medical books and experimenting on yourself. Whatever is said and done, you cannot directly experiment with the medicines after reading few medical books. Now let me try to exactly express what Mahadeva means. Yesterday he spoke about a wonderful technique, ananda sutra. Today he is giving us one more technique. It is actually, it’s like a,he’s taking us step by step to the peak and expressing the truth as it is. Sometime the truth as it is, when you are not able to grasp, catch. He is now then adding the techniques to create that intensity. Please understand, only after all the preparation and only when you are in the high intensity, when the truth uttered by Master, it just clicks. When Master, see when Master says, no need for any sadhana, liberate yourself now, you will be able to do only if you have done enough of sadhana and created enough intensity. That is the paradoxical thing. If you have missed, if you’ve not caught, if you’ve not had that intensity to catch, here, Mahadeva is giving a beautiful method to create that intensity. Not only that, it’s a very powerful physical technique. Means it can help 80% of us. 80% of us are living in physical level. Other 20% live in the mental level. Practically negligible people only live in the spiritual level. People who are living in the spiritual level for them one word is enough. Tat Vama Si, ‘That are Thou.’ He will become enlightened. He will just start jumping.
There is a very beautiful story of a boddhisattva. Enlightened disciples of Buddha are called boddisattvas. One person becoming enlightened, his name was Mahakashyap. Just Buddha asked one line, one simple line question. He came to the discourse one day with a closed kerchief like this with a knot, and he asked a question. Somebody stood up and tried to answer. Buddha just kept quiet. The other person tried to answer. Buddha just kept quiet. Mahakashyap did not answer. He was just sitting. Buddha looked into Mahakashyap eyes and Mahakashyap started laughing, and Buddha declared, ‘He’s enlightened!’ There is no transaction, there is no question answer. All it took is one look, deep look, over. Story says Mahakashyap became enlightened.
When you are in that heightened intensity, it is possible for you to catch the truth. I’ve always seen in my own personal experience, training a disciple who is really intense is very easy, does not take much time. But making a disciple understand about the truth who is not intense, especially after coming to these developed countries, so called developed civilizations, I can see very clearly, the disciples who are living in the Bharatn ashram, the brahmacharis, the amount of transformation which happens, for them my every word is a quantum leap. They take a quantum leap. But here, it is only a developed continuity. The developed continuity is OK, but not spirituality. It is more like a personality development. Understand, it is not just about the devotees I’m talking, even about the swamis. Actually now, whatever I am saying is more about swamis. The Bharatn swamis, Bharatn brahmacharis, once actually I blessed one of my brahmacharis, “Let you have my vaak.” The vaak, or the words, the power of words which I am uttering, let you have the same power of words. Let you have the same vaak. There was another one disciple from western ashram, he was also there. Naturally, he felt jealous. Swamji blessed him like this. That fellow asked, you should bless me also. I said just talk to that Bharatn brahmachari. He was in silence for more than 14 months just because I told him from today be in silence until I say. That’s all. One day I saw this fellow was shouting and fighting some other brahmacharis. He was just jumping around. I told him from today, be in silence til you settle within yourself. Whatever maybe, he may have been fighting with the other brahmacharis or shouting with other brahmacharis, whatever it may be. But the intensity was so strong, the relationship, the intensity was so strong, you will be surprised, I did not tell him that after the 14 months he can start talking. Nothing. It was an instruction for eternity, complete, he doesn’t know when he will, he can speak again. Nothing. From that day he just, he did not even say yes. Because yes is again talking. He just shook the head. That’s all. Actually he was in a high restless mood. Usually I go for a morning walk, so I went to the office from the back side door. He did not observe that I am coming. He was shouting and fighting with the other brahmacharis through the front side door. I just went near and touched him to tell that I am here. He had the shock first thing. He had the shock. The second thing, his whole agitation, agitated mood, fighting mood, restless mood with that brahmachari now turned into shock. In that high mood, in that intense mood, I told him, from today, be in silence. I did not inquire. I did not try to find out who is right who is wrong. No. But if it was a disciple from a western ashram, he would have asked, ‘Tell me why. Only then I will do.’ He was very fortunate. When I said be in silence, that’s all. He just shook the head, nothing else. He continued, not one day or two day, 14 months he was in silence. That has completely transformed him. That has completely changed him. So much of energy is conserved, so much of time he had to look within himself, so much of time he had to learn, to meditate, to go through the tremendous psychological revolution. He was ready to receive the vaak. When I called him again and told him from today you can speak, that day I blessed him, you will have my vaak, the power which is expressed by my very words. When I utter something, how it impacts and transforms people, incidents and situations, let you have that same power. You may think, how can this be? Just an ordinary person is being blessed by the Master to have that same vaak. It is a blessing because of his intensity, strong intensity. Even now, he sits and talks, you will not be able to find out from outside the hall whether he’s talking or I’m talking, including the grammar mistakes, including the grammar mistakes. It will be exactly same. It will exactly the same. If it’s just audio CD, you can’t find out whether it’s, it was my words or his words. So authentically. It was a blessing for his intensity. I have seen the same way with the ashramites who are in this, who live in this country, who lived, of course these guys are also from Bharat, but they never had the taste of birth. They lived in the Bharatn developed cities. Even inside Bharat I can see the clear difference between the brahmacharis who come from the cities, developed cities, and brahmacharis who come from the villages. From the cities, when brahmacharis come, I have seen whenever the truths or ideas are shared they only do the job of separating the portable and non-portable items. The portable items, they take it and assimilate and try to have their own version. Understand. There are two things in the Master’s words. Portable means the knowledge which I am giving, the information which I am offering, the statistics, data, conviction which I am offering. Non-portable means the spiritual strength behind that word, the spiritual quality of that word, spiritual instruction or the spiritual sanctity associated to that word. The disciples, when they hear, if they hear the word with the spiritual sanctity associated to it, it will do the intense job of opening up. Means he has grasped portable and non-portable dimension of Master’s words. But unfortunately, the intellectuals, they cannot understand the non-portable dimension. They miss the whole reality. If I tell them, do not talk. Even the other day, one of my disciple in this ashram, I gave the instruction, do not talk to such and such a person. That person only takes the portable part and thinks, ‘Why Swamiji might have instructed? Maybe, he told me not to talk too much but not anything else. I think few things I can reduce from what I was doing earlier, but some official or some other things I can have.’ Means you grasped, the person grasped the portable thing but not the non-portable sanctity associated with that word. That is why they missed again. Whenever you listen to the Master’s words, listen with the non-portable sanctity too. It will do so much of work. If you are not interested to listen with the non-portable sanctity, better start listening or reading some professor’s books. They will have more portable, authentic knowledge. Whatever I am doing here is not the portable knowledge. I am not here to share the portable knowledge. If somebody’s interested in portable knowledge. if somebody is enthusiastic about collecting the portable words, so much available through books, websites, through media now in the society. There are so many western yoga teachers can speak much better than me and can add so much of philosophical content to your brain to give you that self development or self expansion. It is possible by them. You can do better with them, and they don’t demand much also. That is another one very nice thing, but with Master, you will have the benefit only when you see the things, bit clear, non-portable sanctity associated to the word. Whenever you try to do the portabling, the doing the work of porting it and digesting or trying to do some your own mixture, and coming up with your own decision, you miss the truth. Miss the truth. Whenever I see the hypocrisy of a disciple just doing the portable words, playing with it, I just relax and tell them all right, have fun. Have fun. Listening to the Master’s words and doing the portable job is one of the worst thing can happen to disciples. The other day I had the question which I did not answer. I think the question related to yesterday’s discourse. Today morning I received by email, one person said, ‘Swamiji, the same word which you uttered in the discourse, the awakening of the non-mechanical parts of the brain leads to bliss, same word J. Krishnamurthy is using, and he is saying it leads to tremendous pain. How to reconcile,Swami? What is the meaning? It seems he is also using the exact word in some of his book.’ He did not mention which book; otherwise, I would have brought the reference. He just said somewhere he also uses the same word, the awakening of the non-mechanical parts of the brain leads to pain. Understand. Understand this one example, very important example. Neither J. Krishnamurthy is wrong, nor I am wrong. Understand this one example. If you take a golden, gold coin, and slowly start dipping inside the mercury, gold will dissolve into the mercury. The quality of gold and mercury is, the gold will dissolve into mercury. Slowly, slowly if you dip the gold coin, it will start dissolving into the mercury, and there will be one small part of the gold coin which you will be holding, you will be touching, that part will not melt naturally because you are touching. All other parts will become parts of the mercury. When he says the awakening of the non-mechanical parts of the brain is a pain, he is talking from the side of the gold coin. For gold coin dissolving is pain. I am talking from the angle of the mercury. Because I am getting expanded, I say it is bliss. Because he is getting dissolved, he says it is pain. Maybe he would have made the statement from the angle of the gold coin. But actually when the whole thing is disappeared, when the gold coin has disappeared, because in me the gold coin has disappeared into the mercury, I am talking from mercury’s side. For mercury it is a blissful expansion and income. For gold coin, it is a expenditure, and it is dissolving and reducing. That is why both may be using the same word, but I am saying it is a intense bliss, and he is saying it is a intense pain. Here you need to understand one thing. Whether his disciples or my disciples, whoever is listening with a non-portable mood, means listening to the words with the sanctity associated to the Master’s words, both of them will be helped. One danger, if some of his disciples or some of my disciples who are listening, if they have, if they are doing the job of porting, then both will miss. Both are talking from two different point, but you don’t have to bother about it. One thing you may ask, ‘How can a disciple who listens to the master who is talking with it as intense pain will be helped?’ Because whenever pain comes to your life, you will have the courage, ‘Yes. Already Master told me. Let me have the courage to get into it. Let me not escape from it.’ If you are intensely listening to J Krishnamurthy without the mind of the porting or doing your process, you will have the courage and you will enter. If you are intensely listening to my words, when I say it is a intense ecstasy, you will have the desire and enter. Both ways, if it was done, if it was heard with the sanctity associated to the Master’s words, the job or the work will be done. But both persons, if it was not done with the sanctity, if you have not heard, if you are not hearing, adding the sanctity to the Master’s words, you will miss. When J Krishnamurthy says right listening, he means this only. That is what he means. He says right listening is god. When you have that right listening, doing that listening with the sanctity associated to the Master’s words, if you are listening and doing the job of the porting and mixing, coming up with your own logical conclusions, you are missing. You are not listening in a right way, in the right direction with the right energy. Here, this technique is a technique to give you the right attitude, intensity. Actually, if you are in high intense energy, you will have automatically the right listening. You will be just waiting to catch one glimpse. You will be just waiting to imbibe. You will be just waiting to listen. That is why Masters are speaking again and again and again for years over years. Understand. I started speaking only four and one half years ago. Buddha spoke for forty years, 40 years, for exactly 43 maybe. 43 years Buddha message is same. Message is same. His first sermon and the last sermon is almost same. Message is same. Then you may think, why thousands of disciples sat every day and heard the same thing again and again and again? Because you hear, and it clicks only when you are in high intense energy. Only with the intensity it clicks. You just catch, and the awakening happens. Again and again disciples are requested to listen, recommended to hear the Master so that they will stop doing that job of porting, and authenticity to listening, the authenticity to the imbibing will start happening.
There is very beautiful story about a great saint called Dakshinamurthy Swamigul. His presence was such an intense presence, so powerful. He was from southern part of Bharat, a very highly evolved enlightened being. He was a Paramahamsa, means never used to wear clothes, always lived a life of freedom, no clothes, nothing. Just he will sit in the forest under a banyan tree. Banyan tree was somehow associated with enlightened masters for quite a long time. I tried to dig out why the banyan tree is connected with enlightened masters. Still, I am yet to come up with the mystical connection. Logically, I am not able to find out the reason, but from time immemorial there is a deep connection between banyan tree and enlightened masters. That’s one funny thing. He was sitting under a banyan tree, his presence used to be so intense, such an intense presence, you can touch and see. You can touch and feel God in his presence. Neither you need to talk, nor he needs to talk. One of the court poet, the each court will have a poet. In that country, one poet from the court, the official poet, sang thousand verses on that saint, saying that he was the greatest warrior. If you kill one thousand elephants in the war, you will be given that title, the greatest warrior, and the thousand songs will be offered in praise of you. This poet sang that in that same meter which is called barani. In the same meter he sang one thousand verses to that saint, praising the power or the heroic qualities of that Master. When king came to know about it, his ego got hurt, because that king is the only guy who killed a thousand elephants in the war in that whole region. He’s the only guy who had that song and title. Always the politicians feel their ego is hurt whenever they see the name and the fame and the attention is gathering. Because they thrive on attention. See the living Masters, they do not thrive based on attention. If none of you are here, I will be doing the same job, what I am doing now without moving my mouth, that’s all. When I was sitting in my room, I am doing the same job of radiating the presence. Understand. My job is not done by the words which I am uttering. It is done by the presence. You may ask, why I am uttering more words. Just to make you silent. If I’m not talking, you will be talking. You will not receive. You will not be imbibing the subtle mild work which I am doing. Masters thrive by their very presence. People thrive by the Master’s attention towards them. But with political leaders, politicians, they thrive by the attention given to them, this number game. He was hurt, very deeply hurt. He called the court poet and said, ‘Justify your decision of singing the same, in same meter, same thousand songs about that beggar, naked beggar, who is sitting under the banyan tree. You sang thousand verses on him, singing his glory and his heroism. Justify it; otherwise, your head will be cut.’ Because that is the only key with which the kings are ruling the country. The poet said, ‘I don’t have any reason or justification. You can kill me. I have no problem because I achieved what can be achieved by the human mind and the human body. This body and mind, what maximum peak it can experience, it has experienced already by his presence. In his presence I have experienced the peak which I can have through this body mind, so now there is no use for this body/mind. If you want, you can separate them. You can destroy them. I have no problem, but I can tell you one thing. Because I ate your food, I wanted to tell one word. If you have time or little patience, try going and sitting in his presence only once. That’s all I’m saying, nothing else.’ This guy, this king, fortunately, even though he was caught by ego, he heard many stories about enlightened beings in the earlier times, at a young age. That is one great thing in Bharat. One great thing in Bharat. Sometime you may have a mood swing, you may have ego, arrogance, depression, but always you know corner of your mind, heart, the existence of enlightened beings is true and existence of higher conscious state is true. If you work, you can have it. That trust will be there in all Bharatns who lived inside the villages or the area where the tradition is alive because from the young age you will see hundreds of saddhus, the wondering mendicants, and you will hear hundreds of stories. You can not escape or move away from the living spiritual tradition. Every street will have at least two three temples. One beauty of the Vedic temples is, they are not just educating organization. They are energy centers. They are energy centers. When you go and come back, you have some experience added to your being, not just words. No. It is not just the pulpit from where a preacher or a priest or a swami can speak. He just speaks. No. It is an energy center. When you go in and you come out and carry something inside yourself. Something is added to you. Something is added to you. He knows there is something beyond him, so he decides, ‘Alright, let me give a chance before killing this poor guy. After all it’s a one hour journey.’ He goes there. Now the story takes a new turn. It’s a such a beautiful intense description. The king goes with whole, his whole paraphernalia, means ministers, the citizens, the leading citizens, all of them go there. There was such an intense vibrating silence. Not only he, the enlightened being was silent, even the tree was celebrating that silence. The tree was standing on the silence because rooted in silence. Its movements were celebrating the silence. The moment king entered the banyan tree’s shadow, something happened in him. He goes near. He came with the idea of straightaway shouting or questioning, but suddenly, understand, when he observed that intense silence in Master’s body language, whether you want it or not, it will penetrate your inner space.
People ask me many time. In Bharat 30-40 thousand people sit and listen for five, six hours to public discourses and darshans, satsungs. At least it will be three hours. If there is some question/answer or darshan, it will go more than that. In Bharat it is difficult for that many people to sit silently because they are habituated only for political meeting. After five/ten minutes you can clap your hands and just get up and go. No problem. You need to give only attendance. But here in our sessions it is not mobilized crowd. Mobilizing the crowd is another very funny thing happens in Bharat in political meetings, political meetings. They have to show big number for news, so there’s fixed rate, amount. People are paid just to come and sit and listen and clap the hands and go. Naturally along they will sit. It will be boring, and you be already paid. So what is the need to sit? People ask me, and especially people who knows how difficult it is to create that mass and make them sit silently. They ask for hours, three/four hours how these people are sitting silently and listening intensely and not a single person moves out? All I do is before starting the discourse, I will just sit like a stone for few moments. Complete silence. When you are connected to somebody who is radiating intense silence, suddenly you will see the same silence is descending in your inner space, and you are settling down.
The transmission of silence happened between the Master and the king, and King not only did not utter any word, forgot about any word which he wants to utter. Just, all he received is one nod by the Master indicating, sit. He just moved the head. Sit. King sat. Master did not even utter the word, sit. He just moved the head meaning, sit. He just sat. Because King sat, the whole army sat, and Master again resumed, entered into the silence. The silence was so intense, neither King wanted to break nor he had the energy or guts to break. It continued for one hour, two hour, one day, 2nd day. Of course, beyond logic, one week passed, one week over. Neither King felt the thirst nor hunger, or the idea of time. Understand. You will have idea of time or boredom, only when there is thoughts. When there are no thoughts, you won’t have an idea of time or boredom. Time is defined by thoughts. When thoughts drop, there’s no time. There’s no time. And story says after one week, Master was so compassionate, he just moves his eyes, looks into the poet, his disciple, in a very jovial way, ‘I think kingdom needs king back. To take care of the kingdom, he has to be there.’ He smiles. Suddenly all of them come back to the normal mind or mood. They realized one week passed. There was no thought, no communication, no food, no water, no sleep. Deep fulfillment physically, mentally and spiritually. Understand. If this is just a story, it would have been recorded. Because it happened, the king built a beautiful huge temple again under this same banyan tree. We have a temple and a mutt near a place called Tiramihaldu. It’s called Dakshinamurthy Swamigal Mutt. It is created by that king. Understand. Kings will not do anything unless it is their strong experience. It was such a strong experience. King turns and tells that poet, ‘Thank you for guiding me to him. Now all I wanted to tell you is 1000 songs is too less for him, 1000 is too less for him. Please add some more. Please add some more. Let you sing. I will see that it is engraved in stone all over this temple.’ The whole thing is engraved on stone by that king all over that temple. That power, that intensity, that energy. Of course the king was fortunate to have that experience. He was also intense to have that experience. When you are intense, even in the outer world, even in the outer world, if you are intense, suddenly you will see you don’t need too many words from Master. Few words are enough. It leads to the experience. This is the technique to give you the intensity. Mahadeva says:
Consider your essence as light rays rising from center to center up the vertebrae. So rises livingness in you.
Understand the importance of this technique. I have added this same part in our Nithya Dyan. The technique which I am offering, in that, this will be the fourth part, sorry, the third part. Third part will be this part. Visualize you, your consciousness, what you think as you, as the light and move from center to center. You will see the livingness, intensity is raising, when you move from center to center up higher and higher. Your intensity also will be moving higher and higher. You may be thinking, how a visualization can move, can lead me to beyond visualization. You can always choose choicelessness. Understand. You can always visualize to go beyond visualization. Suddenly you will see you are using visualization as a jumping board to dive into the super consciousness. Consider your essence as light, as intense light, and rise from energy center to energy center, from chakra to chakra, from the base root chakra to swadhishtana, swadhishtana to the naval, manipuraka, energy center to energy center. Move. Mahadeva says and so rises livingness in you. Livingness means radiating the energy which does not create any conflict inside and outside. That is what I mean by the word livingness. Intensity. Intensely being inside. I have seen some people intensely creating conflict every moment. Anything you tell, they will be ready to create a conflict. Intensity means which does not create conflict, which is really smoothly flowing but very strong. We always think if it is flowing smoothly like a river, it will not have intensity. If it is intense like a stone, it will not be flowing freely. No. It is like a flood which is intense and flowing, intense and flowing. There are some people who are intense but always creating conflict.
Small story. One guy escapes from prison after 12 years and reaches the home. The moment wife opened the door, she started shouting, ‘How dare you come so late. You escaped 24 hours before. Where have you been? You should have come straight back to home.’ Means ready to create conflict. All she bothered is, ‘I heard the news 24 hours before. Where have you been in 24 hours gap instead of coming directly back to home?’
Intense but only creating conflicts. Livingness means intensity which does not create conflict, flowing but intense. You will be very intense in whatever you are doing. When you see there is a hill in front of you,. when you are clear, you will not bother to take a diversion. Your whole energy will take diversion and your ego will not be hurt. That is why no river needs a navigator to the ocean. If your ego is hurt, you will become a lake and you need a navigator to the ocean. Fortunately, no sign boards for any river, here is ocean. No, but all rivers reaches the ocean. They achieve the goal. When you are intense and ready to flow, you will achieve the goal. That’s all. Usually, intensity leads to solid feeling. You may be intense but you lost the ability to flow. You may be flowing, you lost the intensity. There is a very beautiful word in Sanskrit, gnanavarista bhakti. Rama Krishna uses that word, gnanavarista bhakti. Means that devotion, flowing like a devotee, but intense like a person of knowledge. Knowledge, the intensity, flow, devotion. Both should be completely based on each other. Here Mahadeva is adding us by giving more understanding, adding something to us by giving more understanding, by giving this great technique.
Consider your essence as light rising from center to center up to the vertebrae, and so rises livingness in you.
It’s a very powerful technique. It’s a dhyana sutra which you need to do every day as some part of your, as a part of your routine. You will take time, sit, collect yourself, integrate yourself, and do it with a strong visualization, step by step. This kind of techniques are good, wonderful, when you really need intensity. One thing with the ananda sutras is, it will really do great transformation, but when you go through some physical or chemical changes in the system, sometime we will lose respect for all the knowledge which we gathered, for all the knowledge which we gathered. For those points, dhyana sutras are the best place to take refuge, to take refuge.
There is a beautiful story. One person prayed to God and asked God, ‘You should always be with me.’ God said alright. I will always be with you. Blessed him. So whenever he walks, he always sees one more foot print, two sets of footprint. One he sees the other one is gods. But whenever he is in depression, he sees only one set of footprint. Again he asks God, ‘What is this. When I am in depression, you are not following me. I don’t see your footprint.’ God says, Fool, when you are in depression, I am carrying you. You are seeing only my footprint. You are not seeing your footprint.’
So these techniques can be like a carrying energy. You can relax on these techniques when you are really facing some mood swings, some change of energy. They can be so powerful. They will just bring you back to that same intensity and connect you back to that higher intelligence. Let me describe the technique. You should start with the root center, muladhara chakra at the end of the spinal chord. Visualize your self, whatever you think as you, as a light, intense energetic light ball. Then slowly come up to the swadhishtana then come up to the manipuraka. Swadhistana is the spleen center just two inch above the muladhara. Then two inch above is naval center, then heart center, then throat center, then brow center, ajna chakra, then sahasrara. By the time you come up to the next, next, next centers, your livingness intensity will also come up. You will become very intense. Only after this you can do unclutching or understanding the ananda sutras. That is way I arranged the Nithya Dyan in such a way. First part will be very physical, sitting in vajarasanaq, and inhaling and exhaling intensely, chaotically. You will see, if you have any digestion problem, it will become completely healed. Your body will be ready. See physical health means digesting whatever you eat and making that food as part of your body. That is physical health. Mental health means digesting all the ideas and problems which you get and making a clear solution, living without conflict. Spiritual health means receiving all the great teachings and energy which you receive, digesting it and living a liberated life. That’s all the definition of health. If you have that clear digestion, that complete digestion, if your digestion system is working perfectly, that is health. You don’t need anything else. I tell you. Nothing else is required. If your digestion system is perfect, you don’t even need food. Because the system will be so intelligent, it will take the energy directly from the ether. If your digestion system is perfect, you may eat very less food or no food. One of my great inspiration, Mahavatar Baba, the naked saint who lived in Uttarkashi. I had the fortune of living around him for six months. I have told many stories about him, especially him converting the copper coin into gold coin. It was very funny story, how he lives and how he lived. Never had a food. I asked him once, at least that six months I never saw him eating or drinking. I asked him, Master, please teach me the science. He said, ‘Your digestion system, your digestion system has to be healed. It has to be clean.’ Said what do you mean by it. He said there is a, he gave some methods and techniques like drinking the salt water and vomiting, and he will take a small piece of cloth and swallow the whole cloth, and it will go completely into the stomach, and he will just do something to the stomach and take that cloth out. I have seen the smoke which he takes inside, even is the small bits of that powder of tobacco goes inside his nose. He will take that out through the cloth. That will all be stuck in the cloth. It was shocking. Of course, don’t try. Don’t try. I have seen, he used to have the smokeless tobacco, the small particles of piece of tobacco will go through the nose or mouth. When he swallows that cloth and takes it out, I have seen those particles on that. I was surprised. He says if you keep the navel, the digestion system clean, you don’t need food separately. It will be so intense and alive, it will take energy directly from ether. I tried. Actually my intake is reduced drastically after I tried to work with those techniques. This technique will create a healthy, heightened emotional awareness, and the last part, you will be ready for unclutching and rest into the heightened spiritual consciousness, the choiceless awareness. And we end with the connecting and relaxing, resting into the whole cosmic energy.
LIFE ENERGY MEDITATION INSTRUCTIONS:
Now let’s enter into this technique which will raise your awareness and livingness to the peak. 1. Please close your eyes and sit straight. 2. 18 seconds after step 1: 3. Inhale and exhale as slowly as possible but as deeply as possible. 4. 51 seconds after step 3: 5. Visualize your self as a light in the root center, at the root of the spinal cord. 6. 8 seconds later: 7. Forget all other parts of your body. Forget everything. Just be the light. 8. Two minutes and 10 seconds after step 7: 9. Intensely bring your awareness, bring yourself to the swadhishtana chakra, two inches above the root center. Be there. Be in swadhishtana intensely. Forget the other centers, other parts of the body. Just be in swadhishtana, spleen center. 10. One minute after step 9: 11. Move, slowly move up to navel center. Now be intensely present in the navel center. Let your livingness be in the navel center. 12. Two minutes and 40 seconds after step 11: 13. Let you be living in the heart center. 14. Two minutes and 15 seconds after step 13: 15. Let you move to the throat center. Let you be living intensely now in the throat center. 16. 16 seconds after step 15: 17. Let the intense energy light ball be in the throat center, which is you. 18. Two minutes after step 17: 19. Let your energy move to the brow center, ajna chakra. Let you be centered on the third eye, anja chakra. Let you be living in the ajna chakra. 20. One minute and 19 after step 19: 21. Slowly, but intensely, bring yourself up. Lift yourself up to the Sahasrara chakra, the crown center. 22. 18 seconds after step 21: 23. Let you be intensely present in the form of light, the crown center 24. One minute and 30 seconds after step 23 25. Om. Shanti. Shanti. Shanti. Relax. Let’s gather for next session. Next sutra is continued here. The same sutra. We will see the sutra in next session. Let’s gather for next session. Thank you. Maybe just few questions, then the next sutra. Q: Since our societies are at least partly controlled by politics how do we as spiritual beings, existence as part of our society. Can we be both political and spiritual beings? Yes. Understand. Politicians may not be spiritual beings but spiritual beings can be, tolerate, can be bit politics. There won’t be a problem. Spirituality gives you such a open understanding and vast inner space, you will be able to accommodate. You will be able to accommodate even those things. That is not a problem. This age old problem, all fight in the planet earth is between politicians and the religious people. That’s all. When you become spiritual, neither politician nor religious person fights. There were few spiritual kings, never fought, like Akbar and so many during Akbar’s time never induced, felt, threatened. That was one great, beautiful thing, Akbar’s contribution. Same way, the religious side there were some people who were supposed to become politicians become religious people. They always created fight. Wars. So it’s a spiritual lessons, if it is not imbibed whether you are a religious leader or a politician, you will create fight. If you imbibe that, even if you are a politician, you won’t create fights. And the first chief advisor of Akbar, his name is Maheswara. In course of time he has they started calling him a Birbal. No. He is a Brahmin from a nearby village and his name is Maheswara. For quite a long time the record was saying his name only as Maheswara. Even if you see Akbar’s court record, it says only as Maheshara. He received salary every month. The court document says his name as only as Maheshara, and if you read his stories, very intelligent, wise advisor. He was difficult more like a joker, but he is not a joker. Intelligent advisor, and if you read his history, it says his name is from a Brahmin family and his name is Maheswara, and his period was like a golden period, like Ashoka, Akbar. One area the Ashoka created a golden period because of Buddhist enlightenment, Buddhist knowledge. Here the Buddhist knowledge, I don’t know whether he is enlightened by himself, but surely he had the Buddhist enlightened masters guiding him. And the same way as Akbar. Akbar created a golden period because he had a Brahmin, very intelligent Brahmin as a guide. Q: This last night’s sutra also a word, a way to learn function on two to three hours of sleep a day. I need that in order to be closer to you. Two to three hours sleep happens as a by-product of psychological revolution. When the intensity comes to you, so much of love to do something or to enjoy something, happens to you, suddenly sleep reduces. That’s all. If you are, if you have something which is more interesting than sleep, naturally sleep will reduce. Most of our life there is nothing much interesting than sleep, so we decide to lie down. Q: Since bondage and liberation is relative, why not just eat, drink and be merry? Perfectly alright. Be intense. That’s all. Eat intensely. When you are eating, only eating. When you are sleeping, just sleeping. When you are drinking, only drinking. When you are in merry, just be in merry. If you can be in merry, you don’t need anything else. The whole problem is because you can’t be in merry. That is why you need so much of teachings and the ideas about liberation. See, that’s what, here you think, why not just eat, drink and be merry. You think it is very easy. No. What he is thinking I am doing? I have been given this throne just because I eat, drink and be merry. The problem is, you can’t be in merry, that is why you drink non things, things which are not directly needed by your body, which can’t be accepted by your body. If you can just be in merry, you don’t need what you mean here to drink. Because I’m constantly being in merry, just little water is enough, drinking water is more than enough for me to be in merry. I don’t need anything else to be in merry. Understand. Sometime the Master’s words should be understood completely with intense clarity, not superficially. Eat, drink and be merry is not as a simple thing as you understand, as you think. If you do that same thing intensely, that’s perfectly alright. You are, you heard my words without intensity, that is why you are thinking what you think as a simple thing is what is meant by that word. Listen intensely and live, do all these three. Eating, drinking and be in merry. Do all these three intensely. You won’t have a problem. See.
One small story about this intensity and understanding. After 25 years of marriage, married life, one day a wife discovers when she was going through the drawer of husband, in his room, three soy beans and three bean and a $30 cash. She goes to him and asks with a lot of curiosity. ‘What is this? Why three bean and $30 cash? Why? How it came? What is the meaning?’ He says, ‘Now I have to confess to you. Whenever I cheated on you, I put one soybean in that.’ She said, ‘Twenty-five years. OK. And what about $30 dollar cash?’ ‘No. No. Whenever soybean was $10 for kg, I sold it.’
Understand. Understand with intensity. If you understand only about three soybean, it is OK. But you have to understand about $30, also. So, eat, drink and be merry. This three word, if you understand it just like three soybean, you will not be able to understand the truth. You have to see the $30 behind it. Only then you will understand the truth, you will understand what is liberation.
Let you achieve and radiate the eternal bliss. Nithyananda. Thank You.
SS \#00 – TITLE 2
Let us enter into next sutra. It’s a very. I think I answered all the questions.
Or in the spaces between, feel this as lightening.
Actually, doctor requested me to give the Vinjanaveda Tantra print out to you all. We brought one small confusion is, the chanting we do all the sutras, but I am not giving discourse on the whole sutra. First few sutras are introduction. That part we did not, I did not speak, so our number and that number is not exactly matched, did not match. Tomorrow you will have, will all have print out. I told them to edit the first sutras which I have not spoken and which does not need any commentary. It’s like a, describing the place, or describing the situation and describing some, some stories. Like about this biotattwa and the, what consciousness the Shiva was there, the Devi was there and those descriptions, so tomorrow maybe you will all have the sutra. You will be able to follow the Sanskrit verse and the English translation along with me.
Or in the spaces between, feel this as lightening
This is a beautiful thing, the Mahadeva says now you intensely experienced the energy centers. You visualized yourself as a light and felt, concentrated on every energy center. Now Mahadeva says, feel that same energy as a lightening hitting you. This will happen only when you touch or enlightened Master touches you or when you are touching an energized deity. When enlightened Master gives the energy darshan, you can just be aware, and you will see a lightening shock. In which chakra you feel the shock strongly, you need to work on that chakra. Understand. Whenever you receive energy darshan, today try, today try with a deep, relaxed, but intense, prayerful mood. Don’t think it’s the everyday ritual. No. Today come with an intensity and just look deep. Don’t try to talk anything. Everyday you speak, you ask, talk, many things. Just today try. Don’t try to talk. Don’t try to look this side and that side what is there, there? What murthy is that? Or don’t divert your attention. And another big problem is these guys only that few minutes get so close, they don’t want to miss seeing my face. But in energy darshan, you are supposed to see your face, not just mine. So come and close your eyes and look inside where the shock is happening, which chakra is receiving the lightening. Be sensitive. It will always happen every time when Mater touches. Today be sensitive, that’s all. If you are sensitive, you can see. You can see, see where that touch is happening, where that lightening is happening or when you touch an energized deity, you can have that lightening. Actually, I think Dakshinamurthy youcan touch and feel. That is the deity energized but outside. You can go and touch the feet of Dakshinamurthy. That guru’s, embodiment of guru. You can touch that moorthi, the feet and see what happens inside you when the Master touches. The same thing will happen when you touch the energized deity. That is the power of energized deities. Once the life is added to them, they become independent intelligence. They do the same work of master’s body. What ever is said and done, if you have seen that hall before putting the garba on the deities and after putting the garba on the deities, you will understand the difference, the energy difference. When a Master touches you or when you enter into a energy field, intense energy fields, like a Tirumalai and the Arunachala Temple or Mother and Devi Temple, or there are so many other temples, intense energy fields, Viswanatha and Badrinath, Kala, this kind of a strong energy fields, if you enter there, also you will have the shock. You will see the lightening starts happening inside the system. Whether you are touched by the Master or you are touching the Master’s body or you touch an energized idol, the idol or deity installed by an enlightened being, or you enter into a strong energy field, this experience, what Shiva says can be experienced. Suddenly you will see the lightening happening in your spine. Whenever that happens, close your eyes and rest with it. If it happens in a temple, stop doing all of the rituals. Just sit. Go to a corner. Just sit and digest it. Let it happen. Be aware. Be sensitive to it. Allow that to work. Cooperate with it. You will see, you will receive thousand times more than what you will receive by prayer. Prayer is like you are trying to connect. These experiences is like He is trying to connect. Whenever He calls you, it goes to voice mail. And whenever you call, you blame He’s not picking up. He’s not picking up, true, but when He calls you back, it again goes to voice mail. That is why never the dialog happens. Understand. This experience is like He calling you. Hello. Don’t be engaged. Don’t be engaged in something else. Just go to one corner, sit with closed eyes, forget about the pundas, priests, poojaris, worship, this, that. Whatever is going on, sit in one corner, internalize, which chakra you had that shock or lightening. Just or if you had the whole all over the body, then internalize, sit with it. Let you encourage, cooperate with it. Let that penetrate you deeper and deeper. You will see the process which is supposed to happen will start happening. Mahadeva says:
Or in the spaces between, feel this as lightening
This will not happen ordinarily. By visualizing, you cannot do this technique. No. It only happens by the strong energy fields. If you are visualizing, you are only visualizing. That is not experience. That is not experience. You’ll only be visualizing. But here, this has to happen. This has to happen. So understand. Sit with yourself whenever this happens. Three, during three different times it can happen, (1) When you are touched by an enlightened body or you are touching the enlightened body (2) when you touch an energized deity. Of course energized deity can’t come and touch you. At least ordinary way, in ordinary way, and (3) whenever you are entering into an intense energy field. In Tirumalai or Arunachala, you may not be able to touch the deity, but the moment you enter that energy field, you will see it happening, it happens. Tirumalai is a powerful energy field, strong energy field. I was going through all the major donations given to the temple. Had the fortune of sitting with some of the officers who were working on the temple. So many other wonderful things. Everything shows the strong lightening energy which entered into them when they entered into that energy field. You ought to respect the energy field with a deep, intense devotion. So many stories, so many stories, the moment they say that they enter into Tirumalai the energy experience starts, and they donate something. That is the way the whole temple was created. The whole temple is a living testimonial of millions of devotees’ experience, millions of devotees’ spiritual experience.
And one small story about this energy field. Ramanuja was a great enlightened master. He was going around teaching the enlightenment and the whatever he discovered, the bhakti, the devotion, to all that people all over the country. He went to Gilputi, had darshan of Venkateswara and stayed there for quite a long time. And he was leaving. Those days you have to go only by walk, and especially in the energy fields, the vehicles are not completely allowed. They were completely prohibited. He comes out from the place, walked up to 30 mile. They all became tired. They said let us eat, and they opened the food which they brought from Tirumalai. In Tirumalai it was cooked and they started carrying the food and when they sat and opened the food, they saw full of ants. Ants in the food. Ramanuja not only would not eat, he completely repacked the whole thing without missing a single ant, leaving a single ant outside. He put them all back and packed it, started walking back to Tirumalai. All the disciples started, of course, those days also, they, he had I think, enough of disturbing disciples. Some started shouting, ‘What are you doing? We are tired. Either give us food, or if you don’t want to eat the ants, give us, we will drive the ants and eat at least the food. What is the wrong? If it’s OK we will drive the ants away and eat the food.’ And he said, ‘No! I’m going back.’ And one more thing, in the Ramanuja group, Ramanuja was very senior. He became enlightened very late, and all his disciples were young guys. Even though they were young, they are tired. They said, ‘No. We are not interested in walking back. Why you are going back? What is the need? Drive the ants and eat the food.’ Ramanuja says, ‘No. How many chinnmas, they did a good deed to take birth in Tirumalai we don’t know. We have no right to remove them from that energy field.’ Understand. Very easy to talk, but very difficult to walk 30 miles back. Very easy to tell this idea, but very difficult to walk 30 miles back to drop the ants back to the energy field. That is the respect they carried for energy field, but even after that he walked, left the ants there, then next day started his journey. You don’t know the respect they showered for the energy field, because they experienced it. Same way Ramanuja will never allow a single tree to be cut in the whole Arunachala boundary. He will say, ‘Fools, you don’t know Rishis and Moonies and Siddhas are coming here and taking birth as a tree, as animals. They are all living here just to enjoy this energy field.’ And he will always, he always used to tell, ‘Never disrespect animals or trees inside the ashram where you are staying.’ He always used to say, ‘Siddhas, Rishis, Moonies have come here to be in the energy field, so never disturb them.’ But as usual, you know these guys, these disciples, ‘Ay. What foolishness he’s telling?’ And always there used to be a dog which will come before he starts eating, and he will give a little food and the dog will eat and go. And this was annoying one Brahmin who was too much that washing mania. No the South Bharatns suffer too much by washing mania. The muddy, muddy muddy, they call it muddy. Washing, washing, washing, washing, washing and washing. And this guy, washing mania, he had little irritation. Dog coming all the way to his place where he was sitting and eating, and he giving the food and the dog eats and goes. It is too much. And he shouted at the dog one day, ‘Don’t come here and disturb when Bhagwan eats. Have you no sense?’ Something like that he shouted. You will be surprised. The dog went and jumped in the well and committed suicide. It committed suicide. Dogs can actually swim. This guy did not swim. Jumped into the well and committed suicide. When the news was brought to Bhagwan, he felt so much, and he brought the dog, the dog’s own body, and put in his own lap and applied vibbhuthi, which he would apply on his body and did the traditional Samadhi, the traditional ceremony of burying enlightened beings. He buried the dog and put a mark on it, and always whenever he used to walk that side, he would stand there and spend few minutes with the dog, with that Samadhi.
Understand. Energy field is a very different phenomena. You can’t logically understand the value of energy field. And there was a great saint Manikurivasa, and he came to Arunachala, same way, the moment he enters the area from where he can see the hill, he will remove the shoes, and he will not walk with the leg, with the feet. He says, ‘My feet should not touch the energy field. It is a disrespect.’ He was rolling. Just by rolling, he went around the whole hill and paid the respects. Of course this is too extreme. At least you can understand the spirit. You can understand the spirit behind the whole concept of energy field. Because it was giving such a strong experience to them, that’s why they were able to show so much of respect. If it is just a mental understanding or a faith, you can’t show so much respect. If it is a faith what you will do is no what Ramanuja could have done. You would have called any disciple and said, ‘Take this and leave it at Tirumalai, and come back. He could have done that. That’s what you would have done. Intelligent. Very intelligent. Or you would have asked and we would have told, ‘Alright, it’s OK. Drive them out. It’s OK.’ Or at the most you would have sent somebody to drop. He says. ‘No. You guys may drop and put and come back. I can’t take that risk.’ He himself goes and drops. Because energy fields are the centers which can awaken the lightening, the truth in your being. So, today’s energy darshan, be ready, and be aware, and see which chakra receives that lightening, that experience. This technique can’t be practiced when you want. You have to practice only when it happens. When it happens, whenever you enter into energy field or touch an energized deity or are touched or you touching, or you are touched by a enlightened master. Those are the few moments the lightening will start happening in some chakra or all chakras. Be aware. Receive and sit with it. Allow it to penetrate and expand and go into your system. That will do the work.
Let you all achieve and radiate the eternal bliss. Nithyananda. Thank You.
