The Satsang

we see the Shiva Sutras; 26th Sutra.

This book, the Shiva-Sutra may be said to be the oldest book on meditation in existence. It contains the oldest literature on enlightenment. This is the book of books and atleast 10,000 years old. This book was originally inscribed on stone. These stone inscriptions are atleast 10,000 years old which leads us to believe that the book must have existed much before they were inscribed on stone.

This book contains 112 meditation techniques. All of these are different techniques to suit every possible facet of human nature and human character, to achieve enlightenment. Please understand, human nature, human character is a very vast and diverse subject. To be able to give applicable techniques for enlightenment for every kind of individual is possible only by an enlightened master. The book contains very powerful techniques for enlightenment. It is an account of all the different techniques recounted in detail by Shiva to his consort, Devi or parashakthi. These techniques are the keys, the methods to achieve the Ultimate reality, to achieve the divinity in your being. They are the very essence of all the great spiritual truths.

When we talk of truth we need to understand one very important aspect of it; when it is first delivered it will always be pure and undiluted. It is only in course of time, over hundreds of years, that dilution creeps in and corruption happens. This is always the case with anything original. A small story- Mulla Nasiruddin’s wife was in hospital. She was pregnant and admitted to the hospital for delivery. The doctor examined her and informed him that she may deliver twins and that an operation may have to be performed. This was unexpected news for Mulla who did not have enough money to pay the hospital bills. He decided to borrow some money from his friends and relatives. This story went from person to person, did the rounds. Finally it came back to Mulla himself. His friend asks him,’ Mulla, I am surprised and shocked; just because your wife is expecting to deliver 6 kids and is also having a heart operation, you should not desert her because you don’t have money!’ This is how tales get carried and stories get diluted as they go along. In the case of all great truths, it is the benefits, the side- effects or after- effects that people see first. Among the many side-effects and after-effects are glowing health, a vibrant personality constantly radiating joy and bliss. If the person is a house-holder, he or she would be well-balanced in disposition and attitude.

When people see the truths manifested so beautifully, so wonderfully, they want too want the benefits but cannot do what is required, what is necessary to achieve them. This is the point where dilution starts.

Understand, when truth is first delivered, it will be always pure to the core, one hundred percent pure. People see the kind of effect it creates; increased power of memory, undoubtedly high intelligence, a sharp focusing on any issue with the attitude of always being in the now, obvious good health, radiating joy and bliss and above all a calm demeanor. The qualities and personality are so attractive that people are greedy for them. When they see their elders or parents with such qualities, they think,’ O! My father, my mother, my grandparents, all of them have such wonderful qualities. How is this possible?’ The elders, their parents, tell them the reasons how they have such qualities, the self- discipline, the attitude of always giving not taking etc which are what make them what they are. The youngsters however, are greedy of the qualities but are unfortunately not ready, not prepared to do undergo the necessary penances and the discipline required to have these qualities. They do not understand that it is necessary to first be in the attitude of giving before you can get anything; that you must learn to first obey, before you can command. Then starts the corruption, then begins the dilution process, then begin the short-cuts. This book is the pure truth, the sutras as delivered by Mahadeva, Shiva 10,000 years ago. We shall now enter into the 26th sutra.

The topic for today is ‘Transcend Your Desires’ In Sanskrit we have the word called viraga which means going beyond attachment or vairaagya. Raga means attachment, araga means detachment, viraga means going beyond attachment or detachment; going beyond desires and desire less-ness.

I shall first read the sutra and then translate it. After that I shall enter into it; enter into the truth.

When some desire comes, consider it then suddenly quit. Suddenly unclutch and experience the truth in you.

Do you see how simple this sutra is? But by its very simplicity it is complicated. To begin with, all simple things need you to be first simple. Understand, when Shiva delivers such a great truth in such a simple way, he takes your own simplicity for granted. He assumes that the space you are in is simple, is innocent. This is the basic requirement, the pre- requisite to understand or interiorize the sutra.

Shiva is here delivering a beautiful truth, which I can say, is the essence of all spiritual literature. One point needs to be emphasized at this point; we can never hope to reap the benefits of spirituality without practicing it sincerely; without going into it honestly.

I am often asked, ’Swamiji, is there a short-cut to enlightenment?’ I tell them,’ only when you drop the idea of short cut, you achieve enlightenment’. Just pause to think what short-cut really means. It simply means trying to get something, anything, without going into it deeply, without putting in what it takes. For your own good, it is a fortunate thing that there is no short-cut to enlightenment. Short-cuts invariably lead to suffering.

To receive any great understanding, great truth or great energy you first need to be mature enough for it. It is like a 20-watt bulb trying to absorb the current or power of 1000 volts. Can it absorb such power? Can a 20 watt bulb burn with the brightness of a 1000 watt bulb? No! In the same way, if you are not mature enough to receive the truth but are at the same time, greedy for the life or joy or bliss of an enlightened being, you will only create trouble for yourself; let there be no doubt about it. I have seen on many occasions people who see the joy, the ecstasy and the energy I radiate and the effect it has on them. They are greedy of this state I live in. But it is amusing to see their expressions when I ask them to go through what I went through; when they see the steps one has to take, they say’ no, no, this is not what we wanted!’ They think that just by learning a few words, some sutras, one can get the Ultimate Truth. Please understand, physical well-being, a well developed personality happen as a side- effect or as a by- product in your journey towards enlightenment, but spirituality is not for this purpose; it is not self- development, physical health etc. The problems begin when you begin to assume that these outward signs of well-being are everything.

I have seen people who see the space in which an enlightened being lives and the sheer joy and energy which radiate from such beings. On the one hand they are greedy for this state but on the other, do not want to work, do not want to do whatever it takes to achieve that space. I repeat, spiritual growth cannot be an extension of your being. There should be a complete unclutching between what you were and what you are. There should be a clear disconnection, a clear unclutching between the past and the present.

I have seen many self-development programmes or personality- development courses become very popular and successful in the west. They become successful and popular because they do not teach spirituality. They give just a little bit of cosmetic joy, like some good cream for the skin or a nice body massage; that is all. You use them and feel good about them. This is what people are looking for; instant results without having to work much for them. The self- development programmes cater to just this segment of people which is why they are successful.

True spirituality is not something you get instantly; it is not like some cream for the skin or a massage. It is an operation; a radiation. True spirituality connects to your being straightaway, directly. Its effect is upsetting and frightening.

Shiva is saying here, ‘when some desire comes, consider it; then suddenly quit it, unclutch from it’.

This is a very strong truth, a very profound statement. He says directly,’ whenever desire arises in you, consider it’. He means,’ just see, don’t judge’. He is simply asking you to be an unbiased witness, an observer and not to judge whether something is right or wrong. If you judge something as wrong you will not be able to drop the idea or desire. The moment you say that something is wrong, you have unconsciously begun to enjoy it because right from a young age you have been trained to derive a certain pleasure in enjoying that which society labels as wrong. Shiva is not here to give you the face cream or a massage; No! He is here to give you the truth directly and transform your whole being. He puts his hand directly on the tumor and removes it. He straightaway gives the radiation because he is talking to a disciple, not a visitor. Please understand the difference between disciple and visitor. A visitor is a person who feels the joy and energy which the Master radiates. A disciple is a person who is courageous enough to go through the whole process and imbibe the truth. The two are therefore, totally different from each other. Here Devi is Shiva’s disciple and is living with him. I shall first narrate the story of Devi, the consort of Shiva so that you understand to whom these great truths can be delivered directly; more importantly, who is qualified to receive those truths.

Devi was born to a king called Himaraja. He was also called Dhaksharaja. He was a mighty king; a great king. She naturally lived a life of great luxury, lacking for nothing. But when she saw Shiva she made up her mind to go with him, live with him. Now Shiva’s position was entirely opposite and contrary to everything she had experienced. He did not have any house of his own. He was homeless and his abode was the cremation ground, the smashaana, not a palace. He is however, a great yogi; a mahatapasvi. If you were to see the things around him, the things he used, were all those useless to society. In his infinite compassion he gives away all useful things to society and used only those not useful to it. When Devi tells her father that she wants to go and live with Mahadeva, Shiva, he objects, ‘no! You cannot go with him. You will not be comfortable. You will not be happy. He does not have anything to take care of you’. She says beautifully, ‘here I may live in luxury but not in bliss; with Him I may not have luxury but will be blissful’. It is now a prestige issue for her father who cannot see his daughter living with a beggar. He says, ‘If you go leaving me, you cannot come back’. She says,’ that’s ok’ and so saying leaves everything to go and live with Mahadeva in the Himalayan hills.

It is to her that Shiva is teaching the great truths and why he is able to give them to her straightaway. I always tell people, ‘to receive the truth straightaway, you need tapas or austere life’. You need to go through penance; tapas, only then the truth can be shared as it is. Now see, there are people who want the truth to only develop a little bit of their lives; like some lubrication, nothing more than that. They will simply go back to society and live in the same fashion as before. This is one kind of crowd and the truth cannot be shared with them as it is. For them you will have to package it a little differently; just the way in which their dreams can be fulfilled, satisfied.

But there is another kind of truth called paramaarthika satya in Sanskrit. This is the Ultimate truth for those who are real seekers; who are ready to go through the penance, through austerity; who are interested in transformation, not just consolation. I have seen people inspired to seek spiritual life simply because of some gain, some benefit, some solution they experienced in the beginning. I tell them emphatically, No! Spirituality is not about just life solutions; it is life transformation. You begin to radiate the truth only when you are ready for the austerity, ready for the truth; only when you are ready to live for what you believe as yourself; only when you are ready to disconnect, unclutch from your concept of yourself.

When some desire arises, when some desire comes, consider it and then suddenly drop it; unclutch from it.

Shiva finishes the whole thing in this one sutra, very simply. He says ‘just be enlightened’. Actually you don’t need words to experience the truth at all. For any person to become enlightened, this is more than enough. Here Shiva is giving the very essence of everything; the essence is already here, available. He says, ‘when some desire comes, when some desire arises, unclutch’. He does not say,’ do it this way’ or ‘do it slowly’ No! No wishy-washy. He gives it to you straightaway, ’when some desire arises, consider it’, meaning, ‘witness it’. Don’t judge it, simply see it. See it and the moment you see it, unclutch from it. He is teaching renunciation, simple and pure. People may have their doubts and ask, ’how can this be possible? How can we renounce?’ I tell them ‘then suffer; nothing wrong; that’s all, simple!’ You ask me again, many times, ‘renunciation is very difficult Swamiji, how to renounce?’ I tell you again,’ don’t bother, then suffer! Life will teach you’. You either learn from an enlightened Master or life will teach you. Life is going to teach you. If you learn from the Master, it will be a lot easier for you because he will talk to you in the same language which you can understand directly. You may not directly understand the language that life speaks; it will give you strong punches. By the time you start realizing them, by the time you start interpreting and understanding the message conveyed by them, through the incidents in your life, it will be too late. Please understand, you can learn from the Master directly who is talking to you in the same English language that you understand, the language that you communicate in, relate with. If you learn from him, it will be a lot easier for you as you do not have to go through all the painful experiences. He has done a lot of research and development and he knows the truths of the inner software. He stands ready to give you the software; just download it and start living it! You can of course, create your own software. You then have to live your own life and go through all the experiences. By the time you learn to pick up the lessons from the experiences, how to interpret them, you are ready to die; life is over!

In Sanskrit there are two words, anubhava and anubhooti. Anubhava means the lessons you learn from your experiences. Please understand this carefully; anubhava means to experience, experience, experience and finally learning the lesson. For example you first touch charcoal fire and say, ’O! Charcoal fire burns’. You then touch cigarette fire and say,’ O! Cigarette fire also burns’. Again you touch the fire from a lighter and say,’ O! The lighter fire also burns’. In this way you touch all the different kinds of fire to discover that they all burn. But by the time you understand that all the fires burn, it is too late and your body itself will be ready to be burnt! This is what we call anubhava; learning through experience which goes on and on. Next is anubhooti; learning from intelligence, learning from enlightenment. You touch a fire once, get burnt and realize, ‘O! All fires burn’. This is called anubhooti. Please understand, anubhava demands learning through experience; it will demand your whole life, a painful experience. In the end you say the same thing which Shiva is saying, the same thing which Buddha is saying and the same thing which Jesus is saying, which Mahavira is saying. The same thing which all great masters you will see and see again but it will be too late; it will be a little too late.

Somebody goes to Ramakrishna, a great enlightened being who lived in Bharat in the 19th century. He passed away, left his body in 1886; a great being, a great enlightened master. Somebody goes to him and asks, ‘master, is there a way to connect the outer world and the inner world and live with both?’ Ramakrishna replies, ‘yes, there is a way you can enjoy both but you will first have to achieve the inner world’, meaning, you will first have to forget the outer world and turn your energy towards the inner world, achieve the inner space. You will find suddenly that you have the outer world but not be disturbed by it. He gives a beautiful example of a boat which stays on the water but the water cannot stay inside the boat; the boat can float on the water but the water cannot enter it. He is talking of achieving the inner space which is not moved by anything; of achieving the intense energy and excitement which is independent of anything and which is the basic need.

Here Shiva too says the same thing: first, may you achieve the inner space. Unless that happens in you, no help is possible. I have seen many people using the great spiritual truths in different ways, promising to develop you in personality development programmes, to help you create wealth or create many other things of the outer world for you. Let me tell you, I can also sell the same packaging and it is not a big thing. But understand, the truth, the Ultimate truth is totally different. The truth of enlightenment is totally different. This happens because you do not take the trouble of learning the truth from the source. To reach the source you need to walk up the hill. So you now become dependant on the bottled waters which are labeled as being from the source. They may indeed be from the source but by the time they are bottled, labeled and brought to you, enough corruption has taken place, enough dilution has happened, enough pollution has happened. In the case of water it can atleast be bottled and transported without pollution. But if truth were to go into somebody who is not enlightened, the product when it comes out of him is polluted; it is already corrupted. I therefore tell people,’ even if it is a little difficult learn from enlightened sources, learn from authentic tradition’. It will be a little difficult and they may take a little time, demand a little austerity and penance or tapas. They will demand a little time, a little energy and attention but you will reach the truth, achieve the truth. Understand, there is no instant packaging, no short-cut for enlightenment.

Mahadeva says, ‘when some desires come, desires arise, consider them; then suddenly uncluth from them’. He does not say,’ cherish the desire, it is ok’, No! He says, ‘suddenly uncluth’. Even before the mind start arguing with you, asking, ‘should I uncluth or not?’ suddenly uncluth. If you keep arguing with the mind, you will never uncluth. I always tell people, ‘don’t think before you jump; if you think, you will never jump’. Just see in your life: if you keep thinking, you will never jump. You will jump only the moment you stop thinking. So don’t think before you jump. There is a saying, ‘Think twice before you jump’ or ‘look before you leap’. I say ‘No!’ If you think, you will never jump. Here Mahadeva says, ‘suddenly uncluth’, meaning, even before your mind becomes aware, uncluth; you are enlightened.

There is a beautiful story: A lady goes to Ramakrishna, the great master and says, ‘master my husband threatens me that he will become a swami, that he will leave me and go away; that he will renounce life and go away’. Ramakrishna says,’ don’t bother, it will never happen’. She is surprised to hear this and says, ‘no, no master. He is not joking and very serious about what he is talking’. Ramakrishna then tells her an incident. There was this man threatening his wife,’ I will go away and become a swami. I will renounce life and go away’. You know this is actually a technique used by frustrated men in Bharat. They threaten their women because in Bharat women are not economically independent. If the wife nags too much, this is the way the man responds, ‘I will go away, I will become a monk, a swami’. The lady, the wife, goes and complains to the man’s elder brother, her brother-in-law, ‘your brother is threatening me that he will become a swami, please advise him’. The elder brother says,’ don’t bother, it will never happen’. The lady asks,’ how do you say it will never happen? My husband is very serious about what he is saying’. He replies,’ I shall show you how a person becomes a swami, just watch’; so saying he removed his clothes and threw them away. He simply took with him a towel and went away; left the house just like that and became a swami. The elder brother shows,’ this is the way to become a swami’ and really became one. The person who talks will never do; the person who thinks, thinks, thinks, will never do. The person who is thinking will never jump. Ramakrishna relates this story and consoles her,’ don’t bother, the person who threatens will never move’. Therefore, if you are considering, if you are thinking, be very clear, spirituality is not for you. It would be better if you went to some personality development programmes; they are likely to do you more good.

How to become successful in personality development programmes? I can give you three simple tips or guidelines. First, talk that which you cannot practice. Second, never give a solution and third, always keep saying,’ the solution is here, just here, right here’. The student should never be made to lose hope that he will not get the solution; at the same time you never give the solution. Anyway where is the question of giving a solution when you do not even have it? The solution coming from enlightened beings even though a little delayed, will be authentic. It will be straight; it will be the truth.

Here Mahadeva is saying, ‘suddenly uncluth from it’; disconnect from the desire. See, when you filled with some desire and you suddenly disconnect, you will experience a new inner space, an empty space, that inner space which is ready to experience your own reality. However, the big problem is that whenever you are ready to unclutch from some desire, it is for some other desire, that’s all. You are not ready to unclutch completely. You are ready to unclutch from the one if you have the promise that the other will come to you. If you are greedy of some other desire, you are ready to unclutch from this desire. I have seen people renounce drinking for heaven. Why do they renounce drinking here? Because in heaven they get a different kind of liquor. This is what the so-called religions promise,’ in heaven you will have all pretty girls, you will have different kinds of drinks and music; you will always be jumping and dancing’, etc. These people are fantasizing that world and renouncing this world. I always tell them, ‘renouncing for enlightenment is renunciation; renouncing for some other desire is not renunciation; it is a bargain, a business’. No! Who knows they may suddenly say in heaven,’ no stock now up in heaven’.

One guy like this thought, ‘if I practice austerity here and renounce everything I may get all the best of things in heaven’. So he was practicing all kinds of austerities, became a big guru, had many disciples, followers. One day he died and reached heaven. One of his disciples who was always with him thought, ‘how can I live without my guru?’ So he also died and reached heaven. While he searched for his guru in heaven he was thinking, ‘my guru led such an austere life that he must have got the best rewards; he must really be enjoying with all the beautiful heavenly women and girls and all the drinks in heaven. He must be really singing and dancing and enjoying this eternal pleasure’. See the man’s greed. This disciple saw the guru sitting with a pretty girl, probably some famous actress! He was sitting with the girl, drinking and enjoying. The disciple approached the guru and said,’ master, wah! I am so happy to see your austerity well rewarded. O! What a gift she is for you!’ At this, the girl, the actress, immediately interfered and said,’ stop! I am not the gift or praise for your guru; he is the punishment for me’.

So do not expect some heavenly pleasures in renouncing. See, even in day to day life if you meditate with the thought that you will have more power to enjoy the pleasures, that you will have other benefits, you are again using meditation as a utility. The other day I was reading an article, ‘Better sex through yoga’. ‘God’ I thought; if the founder of yoga, Patanjali, were to read this, he would surely die! Because the first lesson he gives is brahmacharya. The first lessons that Patanjali teaches before starting yoga are the eiama and niyama. In eiama he teaches brahmacharya. In some of these modern day courses yoga is degraded to just a physical exercise. Meditation is reduced to the state of a stress-buster. No! Meditation is not just a stress-buster and yoga is not just a physical exercise. They have each their own sanctity and are something much more than what you think. They are beyond all these things. Understand, yoga is not to be used simply for physical health. The word ‘yoga’ means ‘uniting’ or ‘union’; union with the Divine, uniting with the Ultimate; enlightenment. Are you using yoga just for health and meditation just for relaxation and reduce mental pressure? Again understand, health or mental well-being can happen as a side-effect or as a by- product when you practice yoga or meditation. If you are using yoga simply for health and meditation simply for relaxation, you are not using them; you are abusing them. Yoga and meditation are not for physical or mental health. They have much farther reaching effects and have sanctity.

To see the way some these great truths are projected; I am shocked when I see all over the world the kind of advertisements: ‘Super Deluxe Kundalini Yoga!’ I was simply shocked! And in seven days you are even given a teachers training certificate. I was truly amazed; in seven days what can these guys possibly learn? I have conducted five teachers training courses in the west and I still tell the teachers, ’No! You need to go through some more training’. I was surprised when I saw ‘in 7 days, 100 hours certification course you can start teaching others’.

The truth, when used for just one utility, is diluted and abused. Diluted truth is more dangerous than a lie. Understand, that with a lie you are atleast quite clear but a diluted truth is more dangerous. I always tell people that development of personality and physical health can only happen as side effects when you travel towards enlightenment. But these by themselves should not be the goal. If you are using yoga, meditation and all such sciences just for these results, be very clear, you are missing the truth. You are missing true yoga and true meditation. Even if the process is a little difficult and the teaching a little demanding, do not collect the truth from unenlightened sources. Do not collect them from easy sources. I have always seen: instant food is not permanent life. Anything instant, packaged or immediate won’t have authenticity.

Here Mahadeva straightaway gives a very short technique; really very short. He says, ’suddenly uncluth from it’; uncluth even before your mind realizes it. In the vedic tradition we have a sanyas called Paramahamsa Sanyas. This is called supreme renunciation. The concept of this Paramahamsa Sanyas is the perception that life is beyond what you see through the five senses, like sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell. The moment you feel, perceive that life is beyond these five senses, you renounce this sensory world and start working inwards; you do not look back. Irrespective of your status; whether you are married or unmarried, have or do not have children, staying with someone or separately, student or divorcee, whatever. The perception is the moment you feel the renouncing and going towards the inner space, the sudden unclutching. The mind then asks the question,’ then what will happen to my commitments? What about all the different duties which I need to fulfill in society?’ I have never seen a single person getting out after fulfilling all his commitments. You will not be able to fulfill all your commitments even after your death. Even lying in the grave you will think, ‘I think I have missed two- three things! I should have written my will in this way’. Never does a person ever finish his commitments and moves towards reality. Please understand, when you move towards reality, commitments drop. You may think I am teaching something impractical, but what to do? Spirituality is impractical. Truth in undiluted form is a little impractical. Truth in its pure form is a little impractical. People think they can manage both; No! I have never seen a single person managing both; it is an intense journey which demands your whole being.

Here Mahadeva says,’ suddenly uncluth before your mind is even aware’; because the moment becomes aware it will stop you. The moment you allow it, the moment you listen to the first statement of the mind, it is over. You have failed; over. The moment you are ready to listen to the first statement of the mind, it will be standing with one hundred and thirty statements, ’no, no, no, what about this? No, no, no, what about that?’ Somebody had a doubt, ‘if everybody renounces like this, what will happen to the society? How will the world function, how will it run?’ Please understand, everybody is not so intelligent; it needs intelligence to understand such concepts. All are not so intelligent to take the powerful step.

Mahadeva is here giving a very powerful technique. Understand, you can practice this in your day to day life. This is a meditation technique, not a teaching. Please do not interpret it or understand it as a teaching. If it is a teaching you will start practicing it little by little, day by day, fixing a goal, saying, ‘ this is the goal of my renunciation and from today I shall practice it for each day little by little’; No! If you take this as a teaching, you will mess up and miss the whole thing. It is a technique, to be done as it is. I have seen many people take these kinds of techniques as teachings. There is a big difference between teaching and technique. Teaching means life-style; technique means the experience which changes your life-style. Teaching is like a coat; you can put on one more coat but technique is your very being. It will change your life; it will transform your very being.

Here Shiva says, ’when some desire arises, consider it’. Whenever a desire arises in you, just see it; do not judge it as right or wrong; just see. Give the desire enough inner space. Once you see it, suddenly, before your mind even begins to argue, uncluth from it. Don’t allow any of your mind’s arguments; don’t allow it to enter through the other door and say,’ little bit, little bit, what will happen to this? What will happen to that?’ No! Don’t even allow the mind to come up with any argument. Understand, here Shiva is speaking to different kinds of personalities and different kinds of people. Today’s technique is for the true seeker who is serious about enlightenment. I have seen different kinds of seekers who are very happy to talk about something, never to work for it. They are a little courageous to take one or two steps but not to go with it all the way. Very few guys, the courageous ones whom I call dheera, meaning, the ones who have the courage to travel, only they have the courage to live it, the courage to leave everything else.

Today Mahadeva is addressing, speaking for those courageous ones. He is giving techniques for that kind of people who are intelligent, energetic, courageous. He give techniques for all kinds of people : to the first level who are interested in talking, talking and talking but doing nothing about it, to the second level who are interested in talking but also taking one or two steps but not more than that. Finally the third level, the true seekers; he gives techniques for every level. But this is the technique for those who are tired of being cunning. If you have tired of being lazy, if you have suffered enough with your dilemma and if you have suffered enough with your mind, this is the technique for you. People tell me,’ Swamiji, what you teach is really wonderful, an amazing truth, but how to practice it? We are not so mature to practice such great truths as they are’. I tell them, ‘then suffer a little more and come back!’

The truth as it is, the truth as just the truth, simply transforms you into a completely different being. Whenever some desire arises in you, consider it, see it, witness it, understand it. Suddenly, before your mind is ready with arguments, unclutch from it. It is a very powerful technique. When you suddenly unclutch, a quantum jump will happen in you. If you are renouncing step by step you will never achieve the reality, never achieve enlightenment. No! Step by step, they both never happen. Enlightenment is either now or never; a complete yes or a complete no. It never happens step by step, never point by point, never by degrees, no! It is never a gradual process. It is a powerful technique which you can use everyday. When you sit in the morning and you feel thirst or hunger; thirst, desire to drink water or hunger, desire to eat food. Just sit with the desire, consider it. Don’t say it is right or wrong, just uncluth before your mind brings up any argument. You may ask,’ then I should not eat or what?’ That is secondary; when you are really hungry, when the hunger goes beyond unclutching you will simply eat, that is different. But such unclutching can surely reduce the number of times and the quantity you eat. Any desire, whether it is anger and the desire to express it or the desire to express your lust, desire to express anything or desire for any object: just sit, consider the desire and suddenly, before your mind is even ready, unclutch from it.

Shiva gives so many wonderful methods for the different kinds of beings. Today’s technique is for the powerful, intense and courageous seekers who are tired of the same way they are living, who are really tired of dilemmas, who have suffered enough with their minds, who have lived enough to understand the cunningness of the mind. This technique is for them. This is for those few courageous living beings. When you consider a desire, suddenly decide to uncluth; over. Do not allow the arguments and just be with the unclutched space; see what happens to you. Maybe for a few minutes we can all sit effortlessly and try to see how you can all practice this and internalize it. Understand, this technique is not even to be practiced every day, no! This is supposed to be practiced and internalized effortlessly. Suddenly one day you will unclutch from the very desire of holding on to this body; you will just unclutch.

Now close your eyes for a few minutes, I’ll guide you how to consider the desires and how to suddenly unclutch from it before your mind brings any argument. Please close your eyes, sit in a relaxed posture. If some desires arise in you, maybe even a desire to open your eyes or a desire to move your body, any desire: just see that desire. Do not judge. There may be so many desires; do not judge them; do not say right or wrong; do not suppress them, just see them.

Don’t think your desire is right or wrong. Just see it. Let your eyes be closed. Let them come, let the desires arise, let them happen.

Let all the desires arise in you; don’t suppress them; don’t judge them; don’t say they are right or wrong; just let them happen; consider them and let them happen.

Suddenly, before even your mind recognizes, unclutch from all the desires and relax. Do not argue; do not logically decide; do not decide based on right or wrong. Just unclutch from all the thoughts. Let your eyes be closed, just unclutch from all the thoughts.

Anything that comes up, just unclutch from it. Just disconnect, don’t judge. Don’t say it is right; don’t say it is wrong. Just disconnect, just unclutch.

Om Nithyanandam! Relax. Slowly, very slowly, you may open you eyes. Whenever you are caught by strong emotions or strong desires, just sit with them, don’t judge and don’t say right or wrong; consider them and suddenly unclutch from them without even allowing your logic to question them or come up with situations. When you unclutch you will see the space in you, the truth in you.

Over the next few days we will have programmes every day in the evening and shall be looking at the other different meditation techniques by Mahadeva Shiva.

This book is the ultimate book. Each day new dimensions, new techniques and new methods open up. So try not to miss them.

May you all experience, achieve and radiate Eternal Bliss, Nithyananda.

Thank you.
