“Drop everything and surrender.”
Drop everything and surrender. This is the gist, the essence of not only the Bhagavad Gita but of all spiritual teachings, of all spiritual masters. Here Krishna concludes the Bhagavad Gita with one subject, drop everything and surrender. Beautifully he says:
### Sarvadharmaan parityajya maamekam sharanam vraja;
Aham tvaa sarvapaapebhyo mokshayishyaami maa shuchah. (66)
Drop everything, whatever you know as dharma, whatever you know as life, whatever you know, just drop it. Drop everything and surrender. Whatever you know is only your knowledge, what you know. That is all! It cannot lead you to the ultimate. Even your knowledge about God can create only one more bondage because you will not know God. You will only know about God. That is all! Please understand this, knowing about God is not knowing God. Knowing about God is different, knowing God is different. When you completely surrender everything, you will not even have the idea that you know God. When even the idea that you know God does not exist in you, then you can be sure that you know God. Otherwise you may know about God but not exactly what the Divine is.
All our ideas about spirituality and meditation, forget about the out worldly things, even our ideas about so-called spiritual things, is only our ideas of these things. We think they are the truth but we do not know what the truth is. Moreover, all your understanding and so- called spiritual practices are only within this dream! The whole thing is a dream. Within this dream, you are trying to practice something, you are trying to understand something, you are trying some techniques. How can you expect that your efforts will lead you to the Ultimate? Please be very clear, if at all our efforts can lead us to enlightenment, long ago there would have been enlightenment shops. Long ago our people would have created a clear program. How many days you need to work, what method you have to use, this is the thing, here is the enlightenment check, have it! Long ago we would have had e-malls and you can shop for enlightenment through the internet! All this would have happened. Actually, your effort is in no way bringing the ultimate experience in you life. It is not connected. It is not proportionate in any way.
Suppose you go and buy a lottery ticket for a dollar and suddenly you win one million dollars! Can you say that you earned the million dollars? No!! Never can you say that you earned it. It is a pure gift. In the same way, enlightenment is always a gift. It does not matter what effort you have put in. Whatever you may have put in, it does not matter. You may have stood on one leg for hundreds of years, you may have fasted for thousands of years, you may have practiced meditation or yoga or some other technique. All these are equivalent to that one-dollar lottery only. Anything you can give is only that one-dollar lottery, but what you get in return is a pure gift.Whatever you are doing is within the dream. How can that get you something that is beyond the dream?
Here Krishna says drop everything and surrender. First let us understand the word surrender. The word itself frightens people. The first thing you have to understand when I say this word is that you are not going to lose anything at all when you surrender. You are only going to gain everything. Because we have no other better word we have to use this word at all. The first thing we should realize is that we have nothing of worth to surrender! We only think that we have something to surrender. The truth is that we have nothing to surrender. We only have to open our eyes and see that everything that is is divine, is existence. Whatever we think of as ours’, does not exist! The I and mine that we are holding on to is a mere lie. The moment you understand this, you surrender. The moment you surrender, you understand.
Whatever you call as mine, legally it is true but existentially it is not true. Legally you can fence a bit of land and call it yours. Legally you can own things. But nature does not know, Existence does not know that it is yours. When a cyclone comes it does not see whose property it is, it does not know the law! It does not know that legally you are not allowed on others’ property! For Existence there is no law. All your idea of mine is protected by the law only. It is protected by the laws of the society. You cannot even use the term ‘law of the land’, because land has no laws. Only society has laws. Land can have an earthquake at any time, it has no laws to govern it. Law of the land is beyond your comprehension. As long as you are caught with the concept of I and mine, you will not be able to understand the truth about Existence. You are caught in thinking that something is you, something is yours.
So here, when Krishna says drop everything and surrender, he means open your eyes and see the foolishness. Just open your eyes and see the drama that you are playing. Open your eyes and see the game that you are playing. If you are playing the game to cheat others, it is one thing but do not cheat yourself. By and by we forget this and start cheating ourselves with this game. So, there is no I, there is no mine. The person who is intelligent, who is willing to open his eyes and see reality, will suddenly wake up to the truth that there is no I or mine.
Whatever you think as I, either the body or the mind, can they function without air? Can you say that the air belongs to you? The basic energy, this prana, which goes in and comes out does not belong to you. If this stops functioning, the thing that you think of as you will disappear. It is like you saying that the foundation does not belong to me but the first floor is mine! You can do that legally but it is not possible existentially. In the same way, the building may belong to you, but the earth does not belong to you. The earth can give one small shake, just a very small shake, and whatever you thought of as yours will just disappear! Whatever you think of as you, its very foundation does not belong to you. It belongs to the whole. It belongs to Existence. It belongs to the universe. It belongs to nature with which you are continuously fighting. The base or root of what you think of as you does not belong to you.
When we breathe, the air continuously goes in and comes out, we take it for granted. We start believing that the air belongs to us. There is no break at all. Maybe if God called a strike like a workers’ union strike now and then we would understand that we cannot take it for granted. Suppose He calls a strike even for a minute, then we would understand that it does not belong to us. But He is a Karunamurthi, out of His compassion He never goes on strike! That is the reason we take life for granted. And just because some things belong to us legally, we think that the mine is something solid. But the truth is that both the I and the mine have no base.
Anybody who is intelligent enough to open his eyes and see will realize that both I and mine is just a drama. What he thinks as I is not under his control. Any moment if the air that goes in does not come out, it is over. I will disappear. Immediately your name will be changed, you will be called a dead body! And you will be taken to the place to rest forever! Your house will not be of any use, your car will not be of any use. So, what you think of as I will be baseless and what you think of mine will also be baseless.
When you say that some land belongs to you, you are saying that legally it belongs to you. But existencially it is not true. One earthquake or one hurricane is enough to wipe that out. Earth does not know what belongs to you, Nature does not know, Existence does not know. Only the law of that society knows that it belongs to you. When you look at the land records you will realize how many people lay claim to the same bit of land! The truth is that it does not belong to anybody. It is just a lot of paper work! Your life itself is built on paper work. The moment you have the intelligence to see this, the moment you wake up to this reality, you achieve surrender. The moment you understand that in Existence nothing called I or mine exists, immediately you experience a tremendous relief from continuously protecting you and yours.
These two instincts are the reason for all physical and mental problems. The instinct to survive and the instinct to possess are the root cause of all your problems. But when you realize that the I and mine do not exist, you start laughing at yourself. You realize how you were cheating yourself, how foolish you were in spending your whole life and all your energy in building sand castles.
A small Zen story: Some children were playing on the beach, making sand castles. The whole day they worked very hard and built beautiful sand castles. At the end of the day, they just jumped on the sand castles and destroyed everything that they had taken the whole day to make. And they enjoyed that too! There was a Zen Master sitting nearby and watching the whole scene. He merely said: ‘This is Life’.
The important thing was that the children knew that the whole thing was a drama, both the building and the demolishing. That is the reason they were not affected. They enjoyed both the building and the destroying. In our so-called real life, we do not understand this truth. Actually, our life is pseudo-life, the way children live is real life. They understand that it has no value intrinsically. One day it will be built and the next day destroyed. They do not sit there and cry. They are not emotionally disturbed. They have no problems. But if our castles are shaken, we have so many problems. We do not even have the basic understanding that all castles will be shaken! All palaces will be destroyed.
The whole thing is pure fun! We must understand that whatever way we live, whatever we may build, it does not belong to us. If you do not internalize the out-worldly incidents you will experience what I call surrender. There is only one thing to remember, do not internalize, do not take things too seriously. When you take life too seriously, you can be sure of only one thing, sickness. All seriousness is a sickness. When you think the I or mine is the truth, be very clear, you create trouble for yourself. The moment you believe that there is an I in your being, that moment you start moving away from life.
The idea that you have of you, whatever you may think of as you, this idea has no base. Sometimes you may think you are the body, sometimes as the mind and yet another time you may think you are the senses. No matter what you identify as you, it is baseless. And another important thing to understand is this. Whatever you think of as you that aspect of you will not grow. If you think you are the body, you stop the growth of the body because you do not like change. Whenever you think you are the mind, you stop the growth of the mind, you stop the inputs to the mind. That is the reason egoistic people can never listen to or read about new ideas. They can never learn because learning is against their vested interests. They will always think that they already know and therefore they have nothing more to learn. The very attitude of learning, the beginners mind is lost when you think that your mind is you. Wherever you sit, you will destroy it. If you think you are the body, you will not let the body rejuvenate itself. You will not let your body do its regular work. If you think you are the mind, you will not let it learn anything new. You will not allow anything new to enter. That is a sure way of destroying it. The same applies to what is considered as mine. This is based on the laws of society. In no way is it related to the laws of Existence.
### Arjuna uvaacha
Arjuna speaks now after a long time. He is going to stop speaking shortly. He has just a few words. He is not questioning, just expressing a few doubts. The arrogance or the violence in Arjuna’s being has disappeared. Due to the experience showered on him by Sri Krishna, he has become like a flower. I cannot even call these words doubts. He just wants to hear the words of truth from Krishna again and again. I have seen that sometimes after listening to the whole discourse, some disciples ask for a joke or a story to be repeated once more! They would have heard it just then, but want to hear it again. Listening to some things again and again gives great joy.
So Arjuna asks:
### Sannyaasasya mahaabaho tattwamacchaami veditam;
Tyaagasya cha hrisheekesha prithak keshinishoodana.(1)
Arjuna says ‘O Mighty One, I wish to understand the purpose of renunciation and of the renounced order of life or sanyasa. O Rishisikesha(another name of Krishna), please tell me the truth.’
As I told you, it is not as though Arjuna does not know. He has heard the whole thing just now. But he just wants to listen to it once more. Sometimes you enjoy listening to the same thing over and over.
A small story: A man calls up the lawyer’s office and asks to speak to his ex-wife’s lawyer. The secretary who answers the phone says: ‘Sorry, but the lawyer passed away yesterday.’ The man expresses the usual condolences and disconnects. But he calls up again after ten minutes and asks to speak to his ex-wife’s lawyer. The secretary says: ‘I told you just ten minutes ago that he passed away last night.’ Again the man thanks her and disconnects. After ten minutes he calls the lawyer’s office again and asks to talk to his ex-wife’s lawyer. Now the secretary gets a little angry and says: ‘I told you just now that you cannot talk to him. He just died yesterday. Can’t you understand?’ The man replies: ‘Yes ma’am, I understand. But it gives me such joy to hear it that I am calling again and again!’
So it is not that you do not understand but it gives you great joy to listening to the same thing again and again! So also Arjuna wants to listen to the same truth again and again.
### Nishchayam shrinu me tatra tyaage Bharatasattama;
Tyaago hi Purushavyaaghra trividhah samprakeertitah.(4)[29.05]
Krishna replies: Bharata now hear my judgement about renunciation. Renunciation is of many types.Let me explain the truth.
And then He starts:
### Shri Bhagavaan uvaacha
### Kaamyaanaam karmanaam nyaasam sannyaasam kavayoviduh;
Sarvakarmaphalatyaagam praahustyaagam vichakshanaah.(2) [29.40]
Bhagavan says giving up of the activities based on material desires is called renunciation by some learned masters. Others say giving up the results is thyaga(renunciation). So some say giving up the activity and some say giving up the results.
No other Master is as compassionate as Sri Krishna. He is the ultimate Master. Not only does He give His teachings, He also knows that it is difficult for the people to believe. It takes time for them to believe. So He gives all the logic to support His teachings. Again and again He tries His best to convince Arjuna. Considering the level that He is in, there is no reason for Him come down to the level of Arjuna. He can just say this is what it is. This is the truth. If you want you can follow, otherwise get out! But He does not do that. He is so compassionate. Again and again He comes down and explains all the truths step by step.
### Etaanyapi tu karmaani sangam tyaktwaa phalaani cha;
### Kartavyaaneeti me Paartha nishchitam matamuttamam.(6) [31.44]
All these activities should be performed without attachment or without expectation of the result. They should be performed as a matter of duty, O Partha. This is my final opinion.
So now Krishna is giving his opinion. Earlier He was giving what others have said about renunciation, as either giving up the activity or the results of the activity. Now He says that His opinion of renunciation is living without attachment.
This has to be understood in depth. Whether it is spiritual activity or worldly activity, as long as you struggle with a purpose, as long as you struggle with a goal, you can never relax. Please be very clear about this. The person who surrenders to the flow of life, he experiences the inner space and the outer space at the same time. He is able to enjoy the inner and the outer space at the same time. Whatever Krishna has spoken about in these seventeen chapters, He is now giving the gist. Let me explain with the help of a diagram what I mean by the word surrender. Then you may be able to understand better. (Draws on the board)
[please insert drawing, the same drawing is in the discourse ‘Quantum Spirituality’ – horizontal and vertical axes representing spiritual and material lives]
This (vertical axis) is spiritual life. This (horizontal axis) is material life. This (the point of intersection) is your being. This is the goal you have. You have some goal in your material life and in your spiritual life. To achieve your goal in your material life you are continuously struggling, continuously working. You are somewhere here (gestures to a point on the horizontal axis). To achieve your spiritual goal you are again working, intensely doing yoga, pranayama, pratyahara. You are practicing all known spiritual techniques. And you are somewhere here (gestures to a point on the vertical axis). So when you are struggling with material goals you are here and when you are struggling with spiritual goals you are here. As long as you are struggling you can struggle either in this direction or in this direction. As long as you are struggling in the material life you are avoiding the spiritual life. And as long as you are struggling in the spiritual life you are avoiding the material life. Both are a struggle.
Krishna says, relax from both. You may think what is this funny instruction He is giving! You will think that if you relax in both you will lose both. But the truth is the when you relax in both you will fall into your inner consciousness, into your being, into your inner space. When you experience this inner space, this inner consciousness, suddenly you will realize you can explode in all directions. You do not have to choose between the horizontal and the vertical lines. You can travel on both lines at the same time! Not only that, you can explode in all directions. The only difficulty is that you have to surrender at least to your own being. You do not have to surrender to somebody else. To whom you surrender is not important. Just relax into your own being. Just relax into your inner space, into your inner consciousness. Just surrender to your own inner space. Stop your struggle both in the material world and in the spiritual world.
In the material world, mine, your properties are your goal. You are struggling to achieve these goals. In the spiritual world also you have certain goals, maybe enlightenment. And we constantly run to attain that goal. Actually, spiritual goals create more ego than material goals. At least with material goals, at some point, you realize that you cannot achieve. It can be quite tiring. But with spiritual goals, you cannot even understand what you are doing. Both the goals are taking your being away from your being. When you surrender and relax into your being, you suddenly realize you are neither the body nor the mind to choose between the horizontal and the vertical lines.
As long as you believe you are the mind, you will be forced to choose between the vertical and the horizontal lines. You will be in a dilemma because the mind always wants to choose. Mind and dilemma is one and the same thing. The moment dilemmas vanish, the mind ceases to exist. Mind can exist only as long as you have dilemmas. As long as you have confusions, the mind can exist. Has your mind ever existed without dilemmas? No, never! You may be in a dilemma even to answer this question, that is all! The mind continues to exist only in dilemma. You are continuously thinking whether this is right or that.
A small story: A man was sitting at home and crying loudly. Usually men do not cry and that too loudly! His wife asks him why he was crying. He says: ‘Do you remember, twenty years ago, your father caught us red-handedly when we were together and he threatened me. He said if I did not marry you he would have me put in jail.’ The wife replies, ‘Of course I remember, but why are you crying?’ The man says, ‘If I had accepted that option I would have been a free man today!’
When you choose, one day you will definitely be wondering about the choice you made. Mind is based only on dilemmas. The mind exists only because of dilemmas. As long as you are based in your mind you will be choosing between material and spiritual goals. The people who pick on material goals feel that they are missing the spiritual life. And those who pick spiritual goals feel they are missing the material life. This is because you choose between the two.
For the first time here, Krishna is giving the ultimate technique for quantum spirituality. He is the first quantum scientist of the inner world. He says relax and surrender and you will experience the intensity of your inner consciousness. You will understand that you do not have to choose between the horizontal and the vertical lines. You can explode in all 360 degrees. You do not need to make a choice. Only then you experience choicelessness. When I say choicelessness I do not mean that you do not choose anything. On the contrary, you will choose everything.
Similarly, when I say surrender I do not mean dead surrender. I have heard so many people telling me: Swamiji, I have surrendered everything to God. But you can see that it is in word only, not in reality.
People come up with funny statements. They tell me: Swamiji, I have given up everything, I have surrendered everything to God. Just bless me and see that I get a better job, a better paying job!
Most of the time, our surrender is pseudo. Before making any statement, please be very clear about the meaning of what you are saying. Once a person came to me and told me that I had to take care of her as she had totally surrendered to me. She wanted me to give her mental peace. So I said: OK, come for this meditation program and we will see. Immediately she replied that she could not spare the two days! Just then she had told me that she had surrendered to me! We sometimes make statements without knowing the situation or what the reality is.
A small story: A journalist saw a crowd gathered around an accident on the road. He tried his best to get through to see what had happened but could not get near. So, he started shouting: ‘Oh! My son has got hurt in the accident. Please give way.’ The people gave way and he moved forward only to see that a donkey had been hit by a car!
Before making any statement, know the situation. Otherwise, you will be the one to suffer. With the word surrender also you make the same mistake. With real surrender you do not exclude anything, you include everything. You will be able to experience everything at once. You do not have to choose between the horizontal and the vertical lines. You experience both and something more. You just explode! You will experience something that you would never have imagined. You will experience different dimensions of your own being.
Again, when I say surrender you do not have to surrender to anybody, not to any God or Guru. God or Guru is just a symbol or representation. Just surrender to your own being, to your own consciousness, to your own inner space. The problem is, you never respect your own inner space. That is why in the initial level you need an entity called God or Guru.
Somebody asked me one day: Swamiji, if I surrender to you what should I do? I told him that if he really surrenders, he would not even have that question! He will be guided from within. When you fully surrender, intuition or Divine Intelligence automatically guides you. As long as you have doubts, you have not surrendered.
Krishna says beautifully about surrender:
### Adishthaanam tathaa kartaa karanam cha prithagvidham.
### Vividhaascha prithakchesshtaa daivam chaivaatra panchamam.(14)[47
The place of action, the performer, the various senses, the many endeavors and ultimately the Paramathman, these are the five factors of action.
Next He says:
### Tatraivam sati kartaaramaatmaanam kevalam tu yah;
### Pashyakritabhuddhitwaanna ta pashyati durmatih.(16)[47.33]
Therefore the one who thinks himself the only doer, not considering the five factors, is certainly not very intelligent and cannot see the things as they are.
Now He is giving the exact technology of surrender. These two shlokas can be called stotra, shastra and sutra. Shastra is that which shows you the goal, stotra is that which is out of devotion and sutra is that which gives you the technology. So these two stanzas give you the technology of surrender.
Whatever you understand as you is the totality of so many things. And individually each is responsible for something. But you start thinking that you are responsible for the whole thing. That is where the trouble starts. Krishna gives the technology for the deeper levels of surrender. There are three levels of surrender. The first is intellectual surrender. This means that you accept that the Master’s intellect is sharper than your intellect, that His intellect is of a higher order than yours. This is intellectual surrender.
The next is emotional surrender. This is trusting that the Master’s guidance in the emotional plane is much more intelligent than your emotions. The third is surrendering the very senses, surrendering your cognition, or surrendering the root of cognition itself.
Surrendering the intellect is very easy because anyway it continuously tortures you. You have suffered enough with the intellect for so many years. You somehow want to get rid of it, so you surrender it. Surrendering the intellect is very easy. When you see somebody more intelligent than you, with clearer thinking, you just surrender. For example, when you go to a consultant, you naturally surrender to his ideas. When you go to a lawyer, you surrender to his ideas because you know that in that field his intellect is sharper than yours. The same happens when you go to an accountant. In the spiritual field also, when you see a person who knows more you automatically surrender your intellect. That is not a big thing at all. Surrendering intellectually happens very easily. Most of the time you just want to get rid of your intellect. Your finding somebody to dump your intellect on allows you to just relax from it.
Next comes emotional surrender. This happens when you feel deeply connected with the Master. This connection happens when you start experiencing a few things, some meditation, some understanding. This is when the emotional surrender starts happening. You start respecting His emotions more than your own emotions. When I say the Master’s emotions I mean the things He guides you in, the way He wants you to live. You will start giving more importance to these things than what you think of as life. Slowly He becomes the center of your life. You start respecting Him more than all other emotional attachments. Priorities start shifting. At your emotional level, the Master comes in as the number one priority. This is emotional surrender, when you feel totally connected at the emotional level.
Next is a much deeper level of surrender. After listening to these seventeen days of discourses, you will be able to understand this deeper level of surrender. This is the level of the senses. The surrender of the senses means that even your senses will listen to what He says.
During the ancient times, a disciple asked a vedic rishi(ascetic) why he should surrender. The master asked him, as far as his knowledge goes, how does he know about himself. The disciple replies that he knows himself through his senses. Then the master asks who he think he is according to his senses. The disciple says that he is the body and the mind. To this the master says that according to him, he was God. The master says: Only when you surrender your senses will you realize the truth of what I am saying. The moment you believe me more than your senses you will experience that you are God. You will then understand the meaning of tatvam asi (‘you are that’). The master again and again tries to show that you are God. As I keep saying: I am not here to prove that I am God. I am here to prove that you are God.
Again and again the Master stands for the ideal that you are the infinite. He keeps showing you the various dimensions of your self that you have not even explored, that you have not experienced. He is showing so many dimensions of your being to yourself. The Master stands for your multidimensional being. He is trying to show you that it is possible. He is showing you that if it is possible for Him, it is possible for you also. But as long as you believe your senses you will think that you are only the body and the mind. Only when you trust the Master more than your senses, will you understand that the Master’s words are the truth and not your senses. Then you will be able to experience the truth of the Master’s words. When the Master says that you are God, suddenly you will realize the truth for yourself. You will understand that you are indeed God and neither the body nor the mind as your senses had led you to believe. Only when you believe the Master’s words more than your senses will you be able to experience it.
Two persons are speaking from two different levels. One side your senses are telling you that you are the body and the mind. On the other side your Master is telling you that you are God, that you are Divine, that you have so many dimensions to your being. Enjoy everything, experience everything. For as long as you listen to your senses you will not be able to even hear what the Master is saying. Only when you leave your senses and come to the Master can you hear Him and experience the truth that you are Divine.
Let me tell you a small incident in Krishna’s life. After the war, Krishna and Arjuna were going somewhere. Krishna looks up and says: Arjuna, look at the white colored crows. Arjuna immediately agrees that they were indeed white colored. After a few minutes, Krishna again looks up and says: No, they are black colored. Again Arjuna agrees that they were black colored. Krishna makes fun of Arjuna and says: ‘What has happened to you? When I say white you also say white and when I say black you also say black!’ Arjuna replies: ‘I really do not know what has happened to my senses, but when You said that they were white, I really saw them as white and when You said black, I really say them as black. I do not know logically whether they are black or white, but I saw them as You directed.’
In the inner world, the first and the last tool that you need is complete surrender. Only then can you wake up to the truth. If Arjuna had trusted only his senses, he would have been at best a good warrior, a good king. But because he trusted Krishna more than his senses, he became enlightened. He experienced the truth of Krishna. You can experience Krishna consciousness only by surrendering the senses. Not just by surrendering the intellect and the emotions but the very root of the intellect and the emotions, which is the senses. The senses supply the data. When you surrender them, the source of the data itself is surrendered.
You receive all the information about yourself through the senses. Please understand that you do not know anything about yourself. You respect yourself only because of the data you collect about yourself through the senses from others. If somebody says you are beautiful, you put an entry in the book that you are beautiful and the information as to who said it is also entered. Again, when somebody says that you are intelligent, you make an entry that you are intelligent, as told by so and so. If somebody says that you are tall, dark and handsome, that entry is made and the name mentioned. When you are told that you are dumb, another entry is made. At the end of the day, a survey is taken and you assess what everybody has said about you. You see that 72% of the people have said that you are intelligent, 20% say that you are dumb and the rest do not know. Based on these statistics you decide about yourself. You decide that if 72% of the people say that you are intelligent, all of them cannot be fools. What they say must be right and therefore, you must be an intelligent person! So your conclusion about yourself is based on what others say about you. The whole day you are on a signature campaign. You are continuously going around asking people to tell you something about yourself. So, it is the senses that give us an idea of what we are. Krishna is asking Arjuna to surrender these very senses.
When you surrender your senses that are the root of your idea of yourself, naturally you will lose all your identification with your body and your mind. As long as you believe your senses, you will think that you are the body and the mind. Only when you believe the Master’s words more than your senses, will you realize the truth that you are divine. On one side you senses are telling you that you are the body and mind. On the other side the Master is telling you that you are divine and that you are always in bliss. He is telling you that you are the consciousness that is beyond body and mind. It is up to you to choose. If you believe the senses, you cannot believe the Master. And if you believe your Master, you cannot believe your senses. Whether you surrender to your senses or to your Master will be decided by your way of life. It is for you to decide.
Krishna says that only when you surrender at all these three levels will you have the ultimate experience. And I tell you, the very surrender itself is enlightenment. Please do not think that after surrendering, enlightenment will be issued to you. No!! It is not a paycheck that you will receive through the courier. The very surrender itself is enlightenment. That very moment you will experience the truth. Usually we play with words. At least be aware of it when you do play with words. People always tell me that they have surrendered their life to Krishna or Venkateshwara or Shiva. Then they say that their only wish is to be happy. If they have truly surrendered the very surrender will be enough. They will not have to ask for anything else. Sometimes they ask me if they should do meditation as they have already surrendered to God. If they have surrendered they will not have any doubts in their mind and they will not need any meditation either! If they have any doubts then they need the meditation. As long as doubts remain the surrender has not happened because the moment you surrender, you disappear.
There is a beautiful verse in Tamil. I will explain the meaning to you. When you give your I and mine to Existence, then Parashakthi or Existence gives His I and Mine to you. Both bank accounts merge and become one. It becomes a joint account! You have nothing to lose. When you think of yourself as body and mind, what you have is shariram rogamayam, manam shokamayam. Shariram rogamayam means that the body is filled with diseases, manam shokamayam means that the mind is filled with sorrows or depression. Then what do we have to surrender? Absolutely nothing, except this body full of diseases and the mind full of sorrows. When you drop these two at the feet of the Divine, He gives you His body and mind: shariram devamayam, manam sukhamayam, atma anandamayam. What you get in exchange is a body divine, a mind in happiness and you get a third thing, a soul in bliss. A take one free offer!
There is a beautiful verse sung by Ramana Maharishi(a great enlightened master of South Bharat) to Lord Arunachala in Tamil:
Thandade enddannai, kondade unddannai, Sadurar yaargalo Arunaachala. [68.35]
He says: I gave me to You and got You in return. Who is more intelligent, O Arunachala. In surrender, you have nothing to lose, you have everything to gain.
Surrendering does not mean giving up everything. It does not mean you have to give up all your property. Keep everything, just do not internalize them. Take care that you do not internalize them. Do not judge yourself based on your properties. You are far greater than what you think you are. Do not judge yourself based on your bank balance. Do not judge yourself based on your relationships. Do not judge yourself based on name and fame. Do not judge yourself based on your friends. You are far greater than all these things put together. As long as you are judging yourself based on all these things, you are internalizing all these into your being. All these will be the major things, the central points in your life. All these things will be pulling and pushing you in all directions. You will not have yourself for your being. As long as these are the major factors in your life, you will be ruled by all these things. But you are much higher than all these things put together. Understand that you are something beyond all these things. The moment you wake up to this truth, you will not be put into any frame based on bank balance or relationships or attitudes or name and fame. These few things cannot be used to judge you. The moment you wake up to this truth, you have surrendered. I am just asking you to surrender these small ideas you have about yourself.
In the vast ocean, small bubbles are formed. One such bubble starts thinking that it is an individual. It thinks that it should become strong. It lasts only for a few moments. But within those few moments it starts collecting other bubbles around it. One bubble is called its wife. On the other side another bubble is called its son. Some are called its parents or relative, still others are the friends and so on. It collects bubbles on all sides to protect itself. It collects a few grains of sand from the ocean bed and starts thinking that they are its property. One is its bank balance, another is its jewelry, the treasures it has collected. Then it builds a fence around to protect what is its. For how long can the bubble play this game? Only for a few seconds! Before it can complete its game, it will just disappear back into the ocean. When the bubble was created, when it existed and when it disappeared, at all these instances it was still a part of the ocean. Even though it claimed to be different from the ocean, even though it thought it was an individual, even though it thought that so many people and things belonged to it, it was still only a part of the ocean and very soon disappeared into it.
In the same way, in this universal consciousness, you think you exist as an individual being for a few moments. Within those few moments you catch hold of a few people as your relatives and friends. This makes you feel safe. You collect a few things as your possessions. You feel secure with all these things around you. With these things you form an opinion about yourself. You play the same game as the bubble. Suddenly the whole thing will disappear. Before the game started, while the game is going on and when the game ends, whether you understand or not, realize it or not, experience it or not, you belong to the ocean, you are God, you are one with Existence.
You are playing a game. You register your marriage to another bubble. You register some grains of sand as your property. The registrar is another bubble! Another bigger bubble is the ruler of the land or that bit of the ocean! And there is an understanding among the bubbles: You will not hit me and I will not hit you! You will not take my bubble and I will not take yours! The whole game goes on in this way. Suddenly within one moment the whole thing is a part of the ocean again. When I say surrender, wake up to the truth that you are in the ocean. When you are born, when you think you are an individual or when you become enlightened, you are in the ocean. Just wake up! Waking up to this ultimate truth is surrender. Surrender these small ideas you have about yourself and wake up to the reality. Then automatically what Krishna calls as surrender will happen in your inner space, in your inner consciousness. Otherwise you will be just playing with the word surrender.
We always use big words when we define ourselves. But we never understand that we are beyond these descriptions. Once a follower was using big words about himself in front of me. After he left I told my disciple that he seemed to be suffering from inferiority complex. My disciple was perplexed. He asked how it could be inferiority complex when he was boasting so much about himself. I told him he is God. So anything else he says about himself is less than what he really is. Any estimation you have of yourself except that you are God is an under estimation of yourself! You are suffering from inferiority complex if you have any idea of yourself other than that you are God. Drop all your ideas about yourself. Then you will wake up to the truth that you are in the ocean.
Some fish swim along with the current, some swim against the current. Whether they go along with or against the current they are in the water. Whether you are flowing with Existence or are fighting it you are one with it. Whether you have realized that you are divine or not, you are divine. There is no choice in this. There is only one choice, you can realize and enjoy or you can continue to struggle and suffer, that’s all! You may try to create stronger fences around yourself or collect more bubbles around, but can you ask the wave not to come? Whatever you may do, the whole thing is only a drama of a few seconds only.
The next problem is if you cannot surrender. Do not start bothering about that. Some people come and tell me: Swamiji, I am not able to surrender. What can I do? Do not worry about that because you have nothing to surrender. By just understanding that you have nothing to surrender, you have already surrendered. Just relax. Whether you surrender or not, this is the truth. Whether you surrender or not, Existence will take care. Automatically life will continue and you will relax. That relaxation itself is surrender. Relax into the flow of life and wake up to the truth that you are something far greater than your body and mind as suggested by your senses. You are led to think that you are something by society. Now it is time to wake up to the truth that you are far greater than you can think. You are beyond any imagination you can have of yourself. Surrendering will give you a new consciousness. You will not be the same old person as before. One single moment of surrender will transform your whole life. You will be a new being.
There are three levels of birth, three types of garbas or wombs, explained in the ancient scriptures. The first is the bhoo garba. This is the womb of a woman that gives birth to an infant. This is connected to the mooladhara chakra, the lowest of the seven charkas or energy centers in the body.
The next is the hrith garba. This is witnessed in the case of real artists. A singer, for example, conceives the song or music in his heart and then delivers it. So also an artist or a sculptor, they conceive the concept in their heart first and then delivers it. That is the reason artists get such satisfaction from their work. Their life itself is so fulfilling because they are giving birth continuously. A woman gets a feeling of fulfillment when she gives birth to a child, when she becomes a mother. She is overflowing with satisfaction. In the same way, when an artist gives birth to a painting, a poem, a sculpture or to a song, he feels an overwhelming satisfaction, a fulfillment. Here the heart center or the anahata chakra is conceiving and giving birth to the piece and is called the hrith garba.
The ultimate is the gyana garba, which happens in the highest of the energy centers, the sahasrara chakra. In gyana garba, all the spiritual ideas are conceived in the head and you work with them. Suddenly one moment you give birth to a new you, to an enlightened being.
So there are three levels of garbas. The bhoo garba is the ordinary level which we are all familiar with. The next is the hrith garba, which a few artists have reached. The ultimate is the gyana garba where you conceive the teaching of the Master and His presence into your sahasrara chakra, work with yourself and then give birth to yourself as an enlightened being. Receive this concept of surrender, this truth, work on it and suddenly you will wake up and give birth to yourself as an enlightened being. The moment you understand that you belong to the ocean, that you are from it, that you are in it and that you will disappear into it, you will realize that you will never die because you are the ocean.
As long as you identify with the bubble, you will always have a feeling of insecurity. The instinct to survive and the instinct to possess will always be torturing you. The moment you realize that you are the ocean, the instinct to survive will naturally disappear because there is no death for you. There is nothing for you to fear, nothing for you to feel insecure about. Death is there only as long as you think you are the bubble.
The moment you realize that you are the ocean, there is nothing to possess either because everything belongs to you. Nothing to lose and nothing to acquire and so, the instinct to possess will also disappear. I am not asking you to legally throw away everything that you own. That is what Krishna is also saying. You do not have to throw away your actions, whatever you have done for your I and mine. You do not have to throw away whatever you have got, just do not internalize them. Within yourself be aware that you are something far greater than all the things that you can possibly possess.
At the age of seven, the toys that you possess are so important to you But now do they hold the same importance for you? You have neither renounced them nor are you attached to them. They are just there. Do you feel that you have to go back home because the toys are there? No! Do you feel that the toys are making your life a torture and that you should renounce them? No! You feel neither attached nor detached. You have grown beyond it. Raga means attachment, araga means detachment, vyragya means beyond attachment or detachment. As you grow older, vyragya towards the toys naturally happened. So also, when you realize the you are the ocean, vyragya will happen towards the few pieces of sand particles that you have collected and the few bubbles you have gathered around yourself. You would have gone beyond these things. The instinct to survive and the instinct to possess will no longer be relevant to you. Your property will not suddenly disappear. They will all be there, but you will start living them and enjoying them more intensely. You will not take them for granted anymore. You will not feel bored with them. You will not think same house, same wife, same life! You will take them for granted when you think they are your properties. The moment you realize that any moment they may be taken away from you, you will not take them for granted. The moment you realize that you are the ocean and that they too are of the same ocean, you will have more value for them. The moment you realize this you will be transformed at the level of the body, mind and consciousness. When consciousness is transformed, you will have given birth to a new you.
Krishna goes much deeper than these three levels of surrender: surrender of intellect, surrender of emotions and surrender of the senses. He gives Arjuna a glimpse of the greatest surrender. He gives Arjuna a glimpse of the ultimate experience itself. Krishna gave Arjuna the experience during the Vishvaroopa darshana, the vision of universal consciousness or cosmic experience. But Arjuna was not able to establish himself in that experience because of fear. Always you miss the first experience because of fear. But now Arjuna is more mature and is able to establish himself in the experience. Krishna gives Arjuna the experience that will stay with him forever. In the next few shlokas, Krishna is putting Arjuna into the experience of enlightenment. He is waking him up to the ultimate truth.
A small story: Once a man goes and asks a Zen master how to become Buddha. The master gives him a slap and in that instant he became enlightened. He experienced the Buddha-hood in himself. The slap was just to show that you are that already, just wake up from the sleep.
Here Krishna is waking Arjuna up from the long slumber called samsaara saagara. This can also be called unconsciousness or tamas. Krishna gives him a good shake by giving him the ultimate experience and puts him in that state forever. I was telling you about the three levels of surrender. Krishna puts Arjuna into that final level or the highest level of surrender.
### Tatraivam sati kartaaram aatmaanam kevalam tuyah;
### Pashyatyakritabhuddhitwaanna sa pashyati durmatih. (16)[94.56]
Therefore the one who thinks himself the only doer, not considering the other factors, such as the Paramaatma or the ultimate consciousness, is certainly not very intelligent and cannot see things as they are. As long as you have the idea of I and mine, you cannot see things as they are. You will see things only as you want to.
When you are prejudiced with I and mine you will never collect arguments and give judgment. The judgment will be ready, and you will collect the evidence to support the judgment. Throughout our lives this is what we do.
### Yasya naahamkrito bhaavo buddhiryasya na lipyate;
### Hatwaapi sa immaam lokaan na hanti na nibadhyate. (17)[96.06]
One who is not motivated by false ego, whose intelligence is not entangled, though he may kill many men in this world, does not kill nor is he bound by his actions.
Very dangerous statement! He goes to the very extreme. No Master except Krishna can make such a courageous statement. Krishna is making a very bold statement here. One who is not motivated by false ego, whose intelligence is not entangled, though he may kill many men in this world, does not kill nor is he bound by his actions. Of course, one who has reached that level of awareness will not even think of killing. As long as you have the idea of I and mine, you will attack or kill. When you exclude, you will kill. But when you surrender you learn to include everything. One thing we need to understand. Only when you feel insecure you will kill others. You do not need courage to make war. You need only cowardice. Only cowards go to war. They are afraid for themselves and so they start killing others. To kill others, you do not need courage, you only need cowardice. The person who is courageous will never kill others. Such a person will be established in non-violence. Only cowards will try to continuously try to hurt others. A courageous person will not try to hurt others. That is the reason Krishna makes this bold statement – one who is not entangled in ego, even if he kills, does not kill.
Krishna is emphasizing let you be liberated from entanglement, Let you liberate yourself from false ego. He is not asking Arjuna to go and kill. One big problem is that people always give their own meaning to words. They have their own understanding.
A small story: A Zen monk goes to the Master and asks him something and is kicked out of the monastery. Another monk asked him what had happened, what he had asked the Master. The first monk says he had asked the Master if he could smoke while he meditated and the Master had kicked him out. The second monk calls him a fool and asked him to wait. He goes in and comes out after ten minutes and is smoking as he comes out. The first monk asked him what the secret was. The second monk said: I asked the Master if I could meditate while I smoked!
We should know how to present our argument. But here, do not give your own meaning to what Krishna has said. Here He is asking you to be liberated from false ego. The person who has realized that he is the part of a whole will not be killing even if he kills. Take the right meaning from this. Krishna is asking you to experience the truth about yourself. He is not asking you to go around killing people. You have to take the right meaning. Krishna is inspiring you to realize the truth, not to go and kill.
A small story: A Jew, an Italian and a Pole go for an interview at the police academy. First the Jew goes in for the interview and is asked who killed Jesus. The Jew says the Romans killed Jesus. He is asked to join duty the next day and is dismissed. Next the Italian enters and is asked the same question. He replies that the Romans and is asked to come the next day. The Pole comes in next and is asked the same question. The Pole replied that he did not know. The officer gives him a day to think about it and to come back the next day. The man goes home and the wife asks him as to what happened. The Pole replies: I got the job. The first day itself I have been given a murder case!
We can give any meaning to words. Do not give the wrong meaning to Krishna’s words. Krishna is asking you to liberate yourself from false ego and not asking you to go around killing people. We should understand the truth behind the words. Only a master like Krishna can make such a courageous statement.
### Jnaanam jneyam parijnaata trividhaa karmachodanaa;
### Karanam karma karteti trividhah karmasangrahah. (18) [103.45]
Krishna goes to a deeper level. Knowledge, the object of knowledge and the knower, all the factors of motivation, the senses, the work and the doer, all these constitutes the action. All these things are the reason for anything to happen.
### Bhaktyaa maamabhijaanaati yaavaanyaaschaasmi tattwatah;
### Tato maam tattwato jnaatwaa vishate tadanantaram. (55) [104.35]
One can understand Me as I am, as the supreme personality or the ultimate, by surrendering all these things unto Me. When you relax from all the bubbles that you have gathered around you to support your idea of you, then you understand that the whole is Me. You are not a part but the whole. He says when you are fully conscious of Me then you enter into the eternal consciousness. You liberate yourself. Whatever you know, the knower, the knowledge, including your knowledge about God, drop all these. Drop everything and suddenly you will experience God. All your knowledge is only the menu card. Unless you drop the menu card you will not be able to taste the food. Do not waste your life just looking at the menu card, experience the taste of the food. Unless you drop all your knowledge, you will not be able to experience God.
### Sarvakarmaan yapisadaa kurvaano madvyapaashrayah;
### Matprasaadaadavaapnoti shaashwatam padamavyayam. (56) [106.40]
Though engaged in all kinds of activities, My bhaktha (devotee) is protected by Me and reaches eternal consciousness just by My presence and blessings.
Just a short while ago I was expressing this same concept to some of my followers. When you relax from the instinct that constantly works to protect you, the space created will allow the power of coincidence to happen. Krishna says that even though you may be engaged in the activities of the world, if you are My devotee, under My protection, you will experience the eternal consciousness. If Krishna wanted to just give the spiritual experience, He would not have used the word protection. So here Krishna is referring to both the outer world and the inner world. The person who surrenders will get the experience in both these worlds. All you need to do is to get out and He will get in. Just get out and let Him get in.
A small story: One day Vishnu was resting on the Adhishesha, His bed that is actually a big snake. Lakshmi was pressing his feet, doing paadaseva. In those days women used to serve their husbands!!! Suddenly Vishnu called for his vehicle, the Garuda, got up and ran a few steps, stopped and then walked back. Lakshmi was puzzled and asked what had happened. Vishnu replied that He had seen His devotee sitting in meditation being attacked with stones by another man. So He got up to go and protect him. But even as He ran He saw that the man in meditation opened his eyes and picked up a stone to defend himself. When Vishnu saw that the man could protect himself, He just walked back!
So when you protect yourself and your property, He just relaxes. When I use the word protect I do not mean that you should not lock your house. I mean that you should drop the instinct of survival. The instinct of survival is constantly torturing you. It is the greatest killer. If somebody kills you, you can after all be killed only once. But the instinct to survive will kill you every moment. When you surrender this instinct, Krishna says that He will protect you. Intellectually you will never be able to understand this. How can somebody who made a statement thousands of years ago give you protection, you may think. You think that only you can protect yourself, can look out for yourself.
A small story: A man who had been blind from birth went to a doctor and asked if he could have his eyesight. The doctor examined him and said that he would do a surgery and the man would be able to see. After that he would be able to walk without a stick.
The man was very puzzled. He could understand that a surgery would give him his eyesight. But how would that allow him to walk without a stick! His whole life he had been walking with the help of the stick and had come to believe that the stick was essential for his walking itself! Intellectually it is difficult to make the man understand that the stick is not necessary for him to walk. But once the eyes are restored he will himself realize the truth.
In the same way, you too think that the instinct of survival is essential for you to exist. Just allow the surgery to be done on your being and you will realize that fear or the instinct to survive is not needed. We always have the question in our minds as to how this can be possible. Just as the blind man cannot be intellectually convinced before the surgery, so also you cannot be convinced unless you first surrender. Then automatically you will realize that you can live without either the instinct to survive or the instinct to possess. You realize that you can live even in the material world without these two instincts ruling you. This is what Krishna means when He says that He will protect. His energy will take care. When you surrender, a space will be created which will allow the power of coincidence to happen. And automatically things fall in line. Automatically you are taken care by the energy of Krishna.
Krishna then goes on to the next level of explaining the truth.
### Tameva sharanam gaccha sarvabhaavena Bhaarata;
Tatprasaadaat paraam shaantim sthaanam praapsyasi shaashwatam. (62) [115.49]
He starts giving the experience now. He starts radiating the eternal consciousness. He is putting Arjuna into that consciousness, into the experience of enlightenment.
Just relax for a few minutes. Relax for these few minutes from all the thoughts and ideas going on in your head. There is every possibility of you too getting a glimpse of what Arjuna received, by His grace. Due to our instinct to survive and our instinct to possess we miss. For these few minutes if you can relax from these. You can pick them up later. There is no problem in that. Just for a few moments keep them away from your consciousness, from your inner space, you may have a glimpse. There is a distinct possibility that you may experience the same thing that Arjuna experienced, by the grace of Krishna.
### Tvameva sharanam gaccha sarvabhaavena Bhaarata;
Tatprasaadaat paraam shaantim sthaanam praapsyasi shaashwatam.
He says Tvameva sharanam gaccha. Throughout the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna has been saying surrender to Me. He has been saying ‘I’ and ‘Me’, that He represents the Divine. Now, suddenly He has changed that and says surrender unto Him. For the first time He is referring to the Divine in this way. This means that He has expanded from the body. Now He is speaking as the Parabrahma Krishna. Now He is speaking from the eternal consciousness. That is the reason He is saying surrender unto Him and not surrender unto Me. He usually uses the word I or Me. This means that He is in an expanded state to put Arjuna into the experience. In order to give the experience to a disciple, you have to be in the same state too. That is the reason for Him to be going into that expanded state.
Before the puja is started, the priest chants the anganyasa karanyasa mantra- ‘Angushtabhyam dashadibhyam’- these mantras are chanted to expand beyond the body consciousness. These are to purify the body and to go beyond the body. Actually, purifying and going beyond are one and the same.
So, now Krishna is saying surrender unto Him as He has expanded and cannot use the word Me. He says, Bharata, surrender unto Him utterly. By His grace you will attain eternal consciousness and supreme peace.
### Tameva sharanam gaccha sarvabhaavena Bhaarata;
### Tatprasaadaat paraam shaanthim sthanam praapsyasi shaashwatam.
He has expanded into that consciousness and is about to give the energy darshan. He is ready to shower His energy on Arjuna.
### Sarvaguhyatamam bhooyah shrinume paramam vachah;
### Ishtosime dridhamiti tato vakshyaami te hitam. (64) [120.20]
Because you are My dear friend, I express this truth to you. This is the most confidential of all knowledge. Hear this from Me. It is for your benefit. Now He enters into the actual experience.
I think we should all give a few moments now to pray to Parabrahma Krishna who showered enlightenment on Arjuna, who gave him the ultimate experience. We will pray that He may shower the same experience on us or to at least give us a glimpse of that ultimate truth. Let us take a few moments to pray. Please close your eyes and intensely pray to Him. Do not think that He is not available now. He is always available to everybody on the planet earth. He may not have the body, but He is available in the form of energy always. The statues in the temples are called archavathara. That means that it is the incarnation of the Divine. He is available to us all the time, whenever we call Him. Close your eyes and pray intensely to shower us with the same experience as the one He showered on Arjuna.
(Silence as everybody sits in deep meditation for a few moments.)
Relax and listen to the words of Krishna.
### Manmanaa bhava madbhakto madyaajee maam namaskuru;
### Mamevaishyasi satyam te pratijaane priyo’sime. (65) [123.01]
Always think of Me, become My devotee, worship Me and offer your homage unto Me. This is the way you will come to Me without fail. I promise you this because you are My great bhaktha(devotee) and very dear to Me.
Now He comes to the ultimate teaching. This is the essence of all His teachings, the quintessential essence of the Bhagavad Gita. He wakes Arjuna up with this one shloka and puts him into Krishna consciousness, the eternal consciousness or enlightenment.
### Sarvadharmaan parityajya maam ekam sharanam vraja;
Aham twaa sarvapaapebhyo mokshayishyaami maa shuchah.(66)[124]
Krishna showers Himself on Arjuna waking him up to the experience of the Whole. He says Sarva dharmaan parityajya, give up everything, whatever you know as dharma, the rules and regulations of the outer life and of the inner life. Drop everything that you know and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from everything. Do not fear. Krishna gives him the abhaya, complete protection.
### Sarvadharmaan parityajya maam ekam sharanam vraja;
Aham twaa sarvapaapebhyo mokshayishyaami maa shuchah.
He just liberates Arjuna just by these words. He gives the ultimate experience to Arjuna. By this one shloka Krishna makes Arjuna drop everything and He liberates him. He gives him a conscious experience of the ocean. He asks Arjuna to drop all his ideas about the bubble, to relax and to realize what the truth is. Even the idea of the ocean or of God is only your ideas. Krishna makes Arjuna drop even those ideas and makes him explode into the Krishna Consciousness, into the eternal consciousness.
### Sarvadharmaan parityajya maam ekam sharanam vraja;
Aham twaa sarvapaapebhyo mokshayishyaami maa shuchah.
Krishna liberates Arjuna and gives him the ultimate experience permanently. You cannot even call him Arjuna any more because he has become Krishna. He has achieved Krishna Consciousness. Now only Krishna exists. When only Krishna exists, you cannot even say Krishna. As long as Krishna and Arjuna existed there were two entities. But now that they have become one, neither exist. There is no name for it. It is only energy.
### Adhyeshyate cha ya imam dharmyam samvaadamaavayoh;
Jnaanayajnena tenaahamishtah syaamiti me matih.(70) [128.10]
He blesses the whole universe with His grace and compassion. He showered His blessing on Arjuna and made him merge with Him. The same consciousness is being showered on the whole universe. He declares that whoever studies this sacred conversation will achieve jyaana yajna , the same space or same consciousness as His eternal consciousness. He blesses all of us with His grace and assures that all of us can achieve Him through this jyaana yajna. That is, by offering ourselves into that knowledge, by completely purifying ourselves in that knowledge, we too can achieve Him, we too can disappear into Him. When you put anything into the fire, it disappears. In the same way, when you put yourself into the study of the gita, you will not be there as you are. You will disappear into Him. Only He remains, only He exists.
The whole experience of truth has descended on Arjuna. Krishna’s blessings are there on all of us also. Let us pray to the ultimate consciousness to put us all into the same experience, into that same energy. Relax into that same energy. The grace and compassion of Sri Krishna, of Parandhaama, of Parabrahma Krishna, that was showered on Arjuna, may it shower on all of us too.
### Vasudevasudam devam kamsachaanuramardhanam
Devaki paramaanandam Krishnam vande jagat gurum
Nashto mohah smritirlabdhaa twatprasaadaanmayaa achyuta; Sthitosmi gatasandehah karishye vachanam tava. (73) [132.45]
The consciousness working through Arjuna is expressing gratitude. It cannot be called Arjuna now. It is overflowing with gratitude. O Krishna, with Your grace, the illusion has disappeared. I have regained my memory. He is not claiming to have achieved something great. He is merely saying that suddenly he realized the truth. You will also realize that you are the ocean. You do not have to achieve it, you just have to remember it. You just have to regain the memory, reclaim the memory that you have lost. He remembers and says now I am firm and free from doubt and surrender to your being. He is overflowing with deep gratitude.
### Sanjaya uvaacha
Now Sanjaya comes back into the picture. Neither Krishna nor Arjuna can speak now as both of them are in a different kind of mood. Arjuna has disappeared and Krishna is in ecstasy. Both are not in the mood to speak. Sanjaya started speaking when Arjuna was in depression and Krishna had nothing to say at that time. Then when Krishna was giving the first experience to Arjuna, Krishna was in the higher consciousness and Arjuna was in ecstasy. Sanjaya came in to speak at that time because both were not in a mood to speak. Now Sanjaya comes back again. Not only are Krishna and Arjuna not in a mood to speak, they are not there to speak. Arjuna has disappeared into the pure consciousness of Parabrahma Krishna. They have nothing to say.
### Vyaasaprasaadaacchrutavaan etadguhyamaham param;
Yogam yogeshwaraat Krishnaat saakshaat kathayatah swayam.(75) [135.25] Sanjaya says, by the mercy of Vyasa, I heard these confidential talks directly from the master of all mysticism, Sri Krishna. Sanjaya expresses his gratitude and joy at hearing all this by the grace of Vyasa. Vyasa means the guru(master). In north Bharat, wherever the scriptures are studied, that place is called a Vyasa peetha. Vyasa is the adi guru (the first master). So he expresses his gratitude to the master for having been given the opportunity to listen to the conversation between Krishna and Arjuna.
### Raajan samsmritya samsmritya samvaadamimamadbhutam;
### Keshavaarjunayoh punyam hrishyaami cha muhurmuhuh.(76)[137.15]
Sanjaya addresses Dritharashtra. He says, O King, as I repeatedly recall this wondrous spiritual dialogue between Krishna and Arjuna, I feel a great joy or ecstasy at every moment. He says muhurmuhuh, again and again, whenever I recall, I am filled with ecstasy. This truth fills my being completely. I am showered by divine grace. He is expressing his joy, his bliss.
### Taccha samsmritya samsmritya roopamatyadbhutamhareh;
### Vismayo me mahaan raajan hrishyaami cha punah punah.(77)[138.15
O King, as I remember the wonderful form of Lord Krishna, I am awe struck and I rejoice again and again. He has nothing much to say. He is just overflowing with ecstasy. He ends the whole thing beautifully with this shloka.
Yatra yogeswarah krishno yatra paartho dhanurdharah; Tatra shreervijayo bhootir dhruvaaneetir matirmama.(78)[138.55]
Wherever there is Krishna, the master of all mystics, and wherever there is Arjuna, the supreme archer, there will also certainly be opulence, victory, extraordinary power and morality. This is my opinion. He ends the whole thing with a beautiful auspicious blessing. Wherever the name of Krishna, the Divine energy of Krishna is present and wherever Arjuna dwells, there will also be victory, prosperity, wealth and morality. All the divine positive energy will shower there. He concludes with this beautiful blessing, this beautiful shloka.

Here ends the ultimate teachings of Krishna and here starts our enlightened life. Let us take a few minutes to give our gratitude to all the great masters. First to the great master who showered these great truths to the whole universe, Sri Krishna. Let us give our gratitude to Him. Then come all the masters who preserved these truths for us so that we can enjoy and experience these truths in our life. Let us give our gratitude to the entire guru parampara.

First, to Sri Krishna, the great master, for giving this great experience to all of us and then to all the masters who have preserved this great knowledge. We will have a guru parampara puja(praying to the full lineage of masters) by the ashramites and then we will end the discourse with a last few words.

Relax for a few moments into yourself in a deep prayerful mood. Let the Great Master who showered this experience on us and the great masters who preserved this science for us, shower us with their blessings. Let us pray to Parabrahma Krishna to shower the eternal consciousness, the ultimate experience on us. Let us give our gratitude to Krishna for giving us this great truth and the experience. And to all the masters who preserved this truth for us. Let them all bless us.
Let you all be established in eternal consciousness. Let you all radiate eternal bliss. Be in, one with and radiate eternal bliss, nithyaananda.
Thank you.
