The Satsang

The Essence of Ten Thousand Years of Research and Development Went on in the Inner Science in Himalayas. In Bharat, there is a big group of people who are satisfied with all the outer needs like food, shelter, clothes, all of their needs, who have a lot of time and energy and intelligence to look into the powers of mind, and look into the different conscious levels. Somehow they were able to tap into the source, the eternal bliss. Not only they were able to experience, they were able to create technique methods to reproduce that same experience on others. So this book is the essence of their research and development. For thousands of years they did research and development to achieve that state. Not only achieving, how to reproduce it on other human beings. This book is the essence of that knowledge. It is called Shiva Sutras. Teachings of Mahadeva, Shiva. This book can give you an idea how that whole culture, that whole country, the whole tradition was dedicated to one purpose: inner science, enlightenment. They are not bothered about anything else. They are not even, they are not even bothered about teaching or preaching. Understand, still now, in Bharat, there is a big group believes people have experienced will not speak. Still now, there is a big group which believes people who experienced will not speak. And if you are teaching, you are only considered as a second level master. Still from that tradition, from the Vedic tradition, the person who teaches is considered only as a second level master. He is not considered as a first level. You see, understand, means they are not even bothered about teaching. Forget about converting or preaching. That simply does not exist in their blood. Still, the world’s, the world’s third largest religion does not have system of conversion. Vedic tradition does not have a ritual to convert anybody. Many, many of our devotees ask me, ‘Swamiji, should I convert to Hinduism? I want to convert to Hinduism.’ I said, no need, because we don’t have that idea. We don’t have that idea. The Vedic tradition is just a way of life. It is an inner science. If you, if it appeals for you, if you are happy with it, if you are practicing it, over, that’s all. We don’t have the conversion idea because our masters never bothered about anything else except doing research and development; constantly doing research and development and creating methods and techniques to reproduce that experience. They are bothered only about creating the product, never marketed it. They created only the product, never marketed it. That is the power of the tradition. You see, without marketing, if something can spread all over the world and more than a billion people are following it, the followers are more than billion, one among the six is, belongs to the Vedic tradition. Whatever I’m saying is directly people who are, who belong to Vedic tradition. There are so many religions came out of Vedic tradition: Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism. There are so many other traditions. I am not calculating all those things. Directly people who belong to this tradition itself, more than a billion, one billion. One billion were able to follow this tradition without any teaching or preaching. Then understand the power of the truth. Just by the very power of the truth, the tradition is standing. And the country, and this is the only religion which does not have in a single country on the planet earth. Understand, Hinduism does not have a single country on the planet earth. No country’s religion is Hinduism. We had a small country, Nepal, few years ago, now that also has declared as secular. And no country is supporting, but this tradition is thriving, alive. Anywhere, if people have started thinking about the inner science or their spirituality, they turn towards this tradition. They turn towards this tradition. Wanted to give a little introduction about this tradition before entering into the subject because only if you know the background you will be able to appreciate and understand the, today’s sutra, because today’s sutra is a very powerful technique, very powerful technique, but very funny technique. It will look very funny if you don’t understand, but very powerful method to enlightenment if you understand. Let me read today’s sutra that Shiva is teaching, this is the 47th sutra. He has given a hundred and twelve meditation techniques. A hundred and twelve sutras. Sutra means aphorism, technique. Each sutra gives one technique. A hundred and twelve aphorisms he has given. Today’s 47th aphorism, the translation says, ‘Enter the sound of your name and/or your Gotra name, (Gotra means the family name), and through this sound, all the sounds, and go beyond the sound.’ The meaning is, he is asking you to use your name or the family Gotra’s name as a mantra, as a sound. Constantly, by repeating it, using it, you can enter into the soundlessness, means enlightenment. It’ll be very funny. If somebody tells you repeat your own name continuously, you will become enlightened. It will be funny. If you understand the tradition, if you understand the whole culture, then you will understand it is not funny. Because in Bharat, even now, in villages you are named according to your birth time. They will see your birth time and, traditionally, each one of us belong to one lineage of enlightened master. Your Gotra, that is what in Bharat they say Gotra means, which enlightened master’s lineage you belong to. Understand, that will be very funny.

If I explained the whole and the social system, only then you will be able to understand it. If you are intellectual energy, you are considered to be the lineage of Brahma. He is the greatest intellectual. He is the person who delivered Vedas. He is the author, or he is the origin of Vedas. That is why the intelligent crowd, the intellectual crowd is called as Brahmanas in Bharat. They are the intelligent people. Means people who preserve the Vedas, descendants of Brahma, creator; if you are more emotional, the devotion oriented. If you had intellectual oriented you are considered as a descendant of Brahmana, descendant of Brahma, Brahmana. If you are emotion oriented, you will be more belongs to the tradition of devotion, bhakti, Vishnu. Your Koul Gotra will be Venkaswara, or some other Krishna or Rama; the tradition of bhakti, devotion, daasaparampara, the Vishnu. And if you are more being oriented, technique, meditation oriented, you will be the Shaivaite. You will belong to the Shiva tradition.

Understand, each family will name the kids only after their family deity. The different names of the family deity only will be used as a name. Still now, in Bharat, ninety percent of the people carry only some gods’ names. Ninety percent of the people carry some god or goddess names only. And we have enough gods. We have more than thirty-three crore. Means three hundred and thirty million. Three hundred and thirty million; Thirty-three crore Devataas. So just, if you use one God’s name three times that’s enough. Not more than; you don’t need to use more than three times. Whole one billion people will have names. So anywhere you go, even now, more than ninety percent of the people carry some god or goddess names. That is why this technique is so powerful. One important thing, sorry to tell that this technique will be powerful only if you are named by, traditionally, by a person who knows the astrology, horoscope, birth signs, and if he is named according to the energy of you and the family’s energy. See, in Bharat, the whole country, the whole culture was dedicated for this one science of enlightenment. At least originally it was designed for that. Now, there may be some places, some gap, some exemptions, some dropouts may be there, but dropouts are dropouts. They are not rule. As a rule, the system or the tradition was dedicated for enlightenment.

That is why, any tourism center in Bharat will be only centered on Temple. Go to any hill, any falls, any river, any beach, anything naturally beautiful or a place to visit, you will see a huge temple, huge temple. The other day, some of our devotees took, and I went to the Niagara Falls. When we were taking the photographs, I said, if it was Bharat, we would have seen a temple tower, not casino towers. No! I saw the casino towers in the background. In Bharat, they would have put Niagaraswara. Would have put a Shiva temple. In south Bharat, there is a big falls, Kulturalnaswara? with a huge temple, Kulturalnaswara ?? Shiva temple. In Bharat, means you would have seen only the temple tower, not the casino tower. Somehow, the whole culture, the whole tradition was dedicated for the science of enlightenment, was dedicated for the science of spirituality. Any hill, in the Andra?____Anandra? Especially, any hill, there won’t be a single hill without Vishnu or Devi temple. Either Gam Ganesha_____? will be sitting or Devi will be there. Any hill, any natural place, if you see, there will be temple.

And every family will have their own deity. Means the energy with which they are regularly working. The standardization has happened. Almost all homes will have puja room, their own small temple in their house. Actually, during our healing initiation, when I started going around the world and I started healing, initiating healers, in that healing initiation we have a rule, understanding that in your house you should dedicate a small place for meditation. With Bharatns, we don’t have difficulty at all with that rule. But always with the westerners, they’ll ask me, ‘Swamiji, I don’t have a place, what to do? Can I have healing initiation?’ Only then it’s ?________, to me. Only in Bharat, dedicating a place separately for meditation in every home is a tradition. I can’t see, even in modern Bharat, a house without a place for puja. Everyday, whether they do elaborate puja or not, they’ll at least light a lamp and two or three sloka, their mother would have taught, ‘Hey, this is your family deity. This is the mantra you are supposed to chant.’ Some two or three word they will utter. One important thing, in those days there was no communication, no electronic media, no TV, no radio, but the way the mantras were chanted with the same accent from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. Still, I can’t understand how they were able to transmit that sound, the pronunciation method same; so much of standardization.

Sometime, people ask me, ‘Swamiji,’ when they, (especially when they come to Bharat and come back), they ask me, ‘Swamiji, in Bharat, everything is so disorganized. Nothing is organized. Things are running this way and that way.’ And if you drive in Bharatn road, you will not have anymore death fear. Just a few miles of driving Bharatn road, all your death fear will disappear. You will be liberated from fears. Especially in villages if you drive, if you are pregnant, you can expect delivery in the vehicle itself. No! The moments will be such! People ask me, ‘Swamiji, it is so disorganized. Why?’ I can’t tell really we are disorganized. We have put all our energy of organizing in different direction. So much of thorough standardizing happened in the spiritual direction from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, the mantras will be chanted same way. The rituals will be performed in same way. The meditation will be done in the same way. The temple structure will be same. They may have their own creative expressions, but the basic understanding, the philosophy, is same. I was really shocked. How could these people do this without any electronic media or mass communication systems? There were no mass communication system and no possibility to travel from city to city, place to place, but they were able to do so much. In every south Bharatn village, if you see the huge granite temples, if they would have put that energy in building dams and roads and infrastructure, the country would have flourished like anything. Every village will have a temple which is equal into airport of this country, one airport. One airport of this country will be equal into one temple because so much of energy has been spent there. It would be easy 18:55_______ ? granite structure ? granite; and now we have done a small stone structure which is only a hundred square feet. For that we spent six million rupee. Hundred square feet takes six million rupee. And ten acre built-up areas without any missionaries; just by hand carving they are done. In every village you will see, (every village means the whole thing), everything was directed towards enlightenment.

Even if somebody dies in the house, the priest will come and chant the Upanishad called Katho Upanishad which is the science of enlightenment. Even that atmosphere, that chants, even that mood, they use it to advise the other people who are remaining: Don’t think only he has died. You are also going to die, now, itself, get ready. No, that is the message, that is the message of that Upanishad. The Upanishad does no word of consoling. Priest won’t come and console. He won’t praise the person who is dead. In Bharatn last rite, there is no tradition of praising the person; what all he did and how he lived and all those great words – no. That tradition itself does not exist. All they do once the person dies, the priest will come, he will chant the Katho Upanishad, which is the science of enlightenment, which gives you the method to achieve enlightenment even when you are about to die. So the science will be taught to all the other people: Understand, it is not that only he died, you are also going to die. Learn the science now itself. Every step is used towards enlightenment.

Even the naming, when a child has taken birth, the naming will be done as a big ceremony. Enlightened master has to come to name. The story of Krishna, it says there was an enlightened master was brought, and he predicted during the naming ceremony the Lord has happened on the planet earth. The enlightened, the Vishnu energy has descended on the planet earth and he names him as Krishna. Understand, even the naming has to be done only by an enlightened being. He will see your energy and he will see for the purpose for which you took birth and according to the purpose he will give you the name. If you hold onto that name and go inside you will achieve that purpose, that’s all. Naming was more like a key to open your inner being.

Usually, in the civilized society name is used as a hangar for all the personalities which you are wearing. It’s like a hangar on which you put all your coats. The house, you hang all your coats on hangar. Just like that, the name in the civilized society, you use it to put all your personality. For example, you use so many different personalities. For somebody you are a father, for somebody you are a son, for somebody you are a husband, for somebody you are a wife, for somebody you are a brother, for somebody you are a sister. We have so many personalities. For somebody you are a boss, for somebody you are a subordinate, so many personalities. You can see in your life how your personality or how your moods and attitudes just change in small few seconds. If this side your boss is standing, how you smile. If this side your subordinate is standing, how you look. Just understand, you can see in your own life, you see in your own life. If he tells the, if your boss tells the same joke again and again, you have to laugh. Nothing can be done.

One day this guy, as usual, telling the same joke. One staff did not laugh. He asked why. She said, ‘I got other job.’ ‘Til you get a new job, you have to laugh for his joke, same joke. He will be telling the same thing, you have to be acting same funny way.

See how you handle your personality, how you handle your different, different masks. Your name is a center on which you hang all the masks. That’s a center point. That’s a pin point where all the masks are hanged. I always tell people, do not think small about your name. Your name is the center of your whole personality. If ten people are sleeping, if somebody calls “Ram”, only the person who is Ram will get up, means even if, (of course, if you shout too much everybody will get up, that is different), even in the deep sleep you are connected to your name. Even in the deep sleep, sushupti, you are connected to your name. Your name is a very powerful thing. It is a foundation of your personality. That is the word you use maximum number of times in your life. That is the word used towards you maximum number of times by the society. Understand, that is the word which is used maximum number of times on you by the society. Same way, that is the word which you use maximum number of times on you. You are ahankar and mamakar. Both are based on your name. Ahankar is the personality, identity which you show to the outer world. Mamakar is the personality, identity which you believe as you in the inner world. Both identities, ahankar and mamakar, are based on your name. That is why in Bharat, they have given so much of importance before giving the name. You can’t choose your kid’s name, not like here. When you are pregnant, immediately you start looking into the dictionary. You choose the name. No, you can’t choose the name. After a child’s birth, they will see the time, date, then they’ll sit and calculate which energy he belongs to and they will see your lineage, your family. For example, if you belong to Vishwa Mitra Gotra, then you are the tradition of enlightened master Vishwa Mitra. Then they will see the technique and method and path in which Vishwa Mitra traveled, and your whole family would have mastered that method of achieving enlightenment, achieving higher consciousness. Because again and again and again, when those techniques are practiced in the family, you master the art.

Even for Bharatns, this all will be new because last fifty years, you guys have never did all these things. Last fifty to a hundred years, even they have lost all the science. Still, in villages it is there. I can’t say they’ve lost it, but in cities it is not there. In villages still it is there. Still, after birth, after thirteen days they will call the astrologer, the family astrologer or the village elderly person who is expected to be spiritually high, or evolved soul. He will come and predict the whole horoscope, calculate, then see the family lineage, the family deity’s name. Based on that, he will create a name. He will first find out a letter because each time, the time of birth, each date and time is allotted to one Nakshatra and that Nakshatra will have a few letters; from on that letters only the name should start. And, they will see your family deity’s names, different names of your family deity. From that, names they will pick up so that the child can use this technique. The child can use its own name as a technique method towards enlightenment. They don’t want to waste any possibility for anything else. They want to use all opportunity, all possibility to remind you about your enlightenment to help you to achieve that state. Even their dressing system, their eating system, their way of life, everything was centered on enlightenment. Everything was centered on divine experience. Everything was centered on the inner world. Then the, finally, the name will be chosen. The child will be given that name. Naming is called namakaranam. That’s what in Sanskrit we call, because the Master sits and decides. He clearly predicts the whole thing. And the enlightened beings, they predict even the past life, with what karmas he came. What is he going to do. What for he entered the planet earth. So from the day they name you, your enlightenment journey starts. The day they name you, your enlightenment journey starts. Even that repetition of the name inside your inner space will be constantly reminding you that you are connected to that energy.

In our programs I give spiritual names for people. Many newcomers they ask me, ‘Swamiji, why should we have spiritual name? What is the purpose of the name? We have already some name and why should we have a spiritual name?’ This is the purpose. If you are having the right spiritual name given by an enlightened being that name will take you to the direct conscious depth. It will connect your mind and consciousness. It will be like a bridge for you to enter into the soundlessness, for you to enter into the enlightenment. It’ll tell your path towards enlightenment. It’ll tell your, how your way of life should be. How you can achieve enlightenment, how you should take care of your life. There are so many different ways to live. There are thousands of ways to live. To give you the guidance, the masters choose the name. If you look back and understand the whole tradition, only then you will be able to understand these techniques, the power of this technique. If you have already a spiritual name, then you can use that name directly. Understand, you can use that name to enter into the soundlessness, because always your spiritual name will be connected to the family deity, God’s name. Your name will not be just your name, it will be some god’s name, so it will become naturally mantra.

Just let me give the definition of engram, samskara or mantra. Any word which is inscribed in your inner space which binds you, which suffocates you, which brings you down in your consciousness is samskara, engram. Any word which is inscribed in your inner space, which liberates you, which takes you to a higher consciousness, which takes you to the more joyful blissful state, that is mantra. Mantra and samskara. Almost both are same, but samskara binds you. Mantra liberates you. Mantra is the antidote for samskara. If you are named by an unconscious person, your name is a bondage. If you are named by an enlightened being, your name is enlightenment, method to liberate you. Your very name can be used as a technique to enlightenment, method towards entering into the soundlessness. You see, if at all your name can be used, that’s the best thing, because whole day from morning ‘til night, either you will be using towards you or somebody will be using that name towards you. Then understand, every moment becomes a spiritual practice. If the right word from a right enlightened master is given to you as a technique, as a name, every time it is repeated you are entering into the higher consciousness. Every time you remember the meaning of it, you are in a different plane. People come and tell me, ‘Swamiji, the spiritual name you gave, the name itself is so beautiful. Whenever I remember that name, I am fulfilled. Whenever I am remembering that name with the meaning, whenever I meditate on that name, the meaning, I am just overflowing.’ Because the name can take you to the deepest level.

One more thing, any other word is only addition to you, but your name is the center of you. Your name is the center, everything else is addition. That is why the Vedic tradition we use only some god’s name. That is why we have, for every god, we have 1008 names, sahasranama. Sahasranama is used for two different purpose. One, to address the gods, deities; another one, to pick up names for your kids. That is the dictionary, usually that is the way. Our elders will try to find the name. They will, first thing they will reference sahasranama. They will see your family deity and your akshatra and the letter and they will reference sahasranama to find out the right name. Those names are so powerful, can take you to the soundlessness. Means mindlessness, beyond mind.

Just wanted to tell few things about this rich heritage and tradition of building temples. Now we are planning to go to Angkor Wat, the world’s biggest spiritual structure, something like ninety-six square mile built-up area in granite, ninety-six square mile they have built in granite. It’s a Vishnu temple; Shiva Vishnu temple. Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, all three deities are there in temple; world’s largest spiritual structure, ninety-six square mile built-up area. The funny part is the whole island did not have a single granite piece. The whole thing was carved in Bharat and shipped by two thousand ships. They have used two thousand ship to ship the carved stone. Another important information, in those days, if anything leaves the shore, reaching the end the possibility is only fifty percent because there is not enough equipments, navigation, all those things does not exist; navigation or weather prediction, all those things does not, do not exist, did not exist in those days, so the possibility of reaching the shore is only fifty percent. Whole thing was shipped, carved in Bharat, numbered and shipped through two thousand ships and assembled. One more thing, because they needed elephants to assemble, more than a hundred elephants were brought from Bharat through ship. In Cambodia, they have done this job; amazing tower.

One important thing I want to tell you, sometime people tell me, ‘maybe those kings built with the slaves, Swamiji, using the slaves.’ No. Pyramids are built by slaves. There is no creativity. It’s a big mass structure. Further, you don’t need creativity, it is a complete scientific geometrical thing, logic. If two or three intelligent guys who knows the system logically, good architects, enough. To build pyramid you don’t need artists, you need architectures. You need architects who are very logical, who can think in a mass scale, over. But the Vedic temples, you need artists. If ten thousand people are involved in building temple, eight thousand need to be artists because every stone is carved. Expression of creativity, not mass production. There is no mass production in Bharatn Temples. No. There is no mass production. It’s not that there is one size or piece, just produce ten thousand and put it one on another. No. Each piece is unique, it has to be carved. It’s an expression of that personality. The person who is carving, he has to digest that idea, imbibe that idea, experience the spirit and express it. No Vedic temple is built by slaves. It is built by artists. A slave can never be an artist. Understand, slave can never be an artist. Unless you are inspired, unless you experience that ideology, you can’t do that creation, you can’t create it.

One thing, as long as I talk and give a little Prasad and send you away, you won’t think much about the truth of whatever I’m speaking. If I ask you to meditate half an hour, then you will think, ‘Why should I? Who knows whatever he is speaking is right or not?’ You will start thinking. Half an hour meditation itself will make you think about the truth of my philosophy, whatever I am uttering. If I ask you to chisel half an hour a stone, then you will think one thousand times, whatever I’m speaking is right or wrong. You will think one thousand times, ‘Why should I chisel? Why should I work? Who knows this fellow is enlightened or not? Who knows what he is speaking is right or wrong?’ You will think one thousand time. When you start working, naturally you will try to verify the ideology which you are believing. That is why all revolutions on the planet earth is done by workers, whether it is communism, or capitalism, anything, any ism by workers. When you work you will start reconsidering, you will start reviewing. You will start rethinking the philosophy which you believe, for which you work. Here, thousands of people sitting and working; not only working, creating the, expressing the creativity. This cannot happen unless they are really convinced. Unless they are really convinced. Unless you are convinced about the ideology which you are practicing, unless you are convinced about the ideology which you are learning, you will not go for working. Thousands of workers working on stone with no missionaries, with no missionaries.

Pyramids are not granite, they are soft stones. All south Bharatn temples are granite. Very strong. One of the hardest granites available on the planet earth is south Bharatn granites. South Bharatn granites are hardest granites. Still after five thousand years, the temples do not need any repairing. They are there standing. That is why they have not used any mortar in between the stones. You should, you need to know important information, no mortar is used between stones in traditional Bharatn temples. No. The stones are carved so perfect they are just made to sit on each other, over. Maybe sometime there will be locking system inside, over, that’s all . No mortar is used. And no earthquake or lightening or natural calamities can shake them. Nothing. You will be surprised.

There are so many cities. I can say temples are much bigger than the whole city. Even now, we have temples which are occupying the seventy percent place of that city. Just only thirty percent of the city is city. Seventy percent land is temple. The city is nothing but the people who are assisting or taking care of the temple that’s all. People live around temples. Cities are created around temples. The whole culture is created around temple. The village in which I am born and brought up, I can call that only as a village because it is not even a district headquarters. It was just unincorporated county; that’s the right word if I had to compare with U.S. standards, unincorporated county. In that we have a temple, twenty-five acre built-up area, granite completely. Eight thousand granite pillars are there. Eight thousand granite pillars are standing. Two million stone carvings are there. Two million stone carving. Each stone carving takes at least six months of one person who is skilled artist. Skilled artist has to spend at least six months on one stone to create one carving. It’s not a small job, it’s not a small job. And you can’t think that two or three people working on one stone; no, it’s not possible. Because too mild work, two, three people can’t work. And moreover, any statue, only one person can clearly comprehend the head, hands and all the sizes. The proportion, if two or three people are working, the proportion will miss. They are only proportion. Head will be one size and the leg will be other size. So naturally one person has to assimilate, digest and do that job. Why I am telling about all these things? Understand, if so many creators, artists, intelligent people are produced by that system, means what will be the power of the basic faith? What will be the power of the basic ideology? What will be the power of the basic truth on which the whole tradition was built?

Just want to say a few words about one temple which is there in my native place. That story, history says it took at least six hundred years for them to complete the temple, but the day one when they started, they had a complete master plan. You may ask, how do you know they had a master plan? Because the inauguration or the first ceremony is done always at the edge of the temple. And the entrance, main entrance, gate of the temple is the place where they will first start constructing. It means what, they know the complete boundary area. Only then, they can start from the outermost entrance. Not like yours. They will start from here and go out, no. First they will have the clear master plan, the Ishanya. Ishanya means the northeast corner. The northeast corner is the place they will start the Bhumi Puja or the first ceremony. And they will have the whole outer structure ready first. Six hundred years – six hundred year means at least some twenty generation. At least twenty generation of architects. The stone workers has to work because when you work in the stone, you can’t live more than fifty years. So much of dust going inside, your lifespan will be reduced. If you are directly working on stone your lifespan will be less. And moreover, naturally, by the time you start working you will be twenty-five or thirty. It’s not that day one you start working, no. So maximum, if somebody lives seventy-five years, he will be working for only fifty years. At least twenty generation, the architects has to, the architects would have worked.

One important thing you should know, there is no method to store that drawing. No paper, no laptop, no computer, no drawing mechanism, no electronic media to transmit that concept. Now you have so many method. We have now 3D way of thinking. Means, clearly the project in a 3D way you can do alteration. So many things can be done with the laptop in the computer system. So many things can be done. Those days nothing was there. Twenty generation of workers were able to digest, assimilate the main concept and carry it on. That itself is unimaginable. Just try to convince your kids to do some puja or ritual or meditation for half an hour. You will understand how difficult it is convincing the next generation. How difficult it is. But these guys were able to convince at least twenty generation. Six hundred years they were able to convince about the ideology, about this great truth, about this great tradition. And the whole city has to work for it.

Understand, ‘Oh those days people were innocent, they didn’t ask questions, they just did.’ No, never think. We have produced greatest intellectuals who said no to everything. There are some books in Bharatn tradition, the book is called Kandara Mandala Wara (sp?); means the author is pulling down all kinds of traditions. All beliefs and all traditions. Must be a tabloid journalist. The guy must have been a tabloid journalist. He has not taken birth in modern days. He is criticizing everybody right and left. See, these tabloid journalists, they will criticize everybody. They will never allow their pictures to be published in anything because people will start criticizing them. They will preserve their personal identity, their personality. That’s why all over the world, people who write these tabloid things, they will have the nickname or some different face, different identity, just to protect them. This guy also does the same thing, criticizing everybody, but he himself is not proposing any theory. A disciple asks him, ‘You are criticizing everything I understand. You are saying everything is wrong, I understand. Why don’t you propose a theory?’ He says, ‘No, I will never do that mistake because next generation who follow, will die, will criticize me. If I propose a theory, next generation will criticize me.’ We have all these kind of great intellectuals.

We have given birth to greatest atheists. Charvaka. Five thousand years ago, he is writing a beautiful theory. Actually if you read the theory, the modern day atheist like communist, all these guys are two pigmies. They don’t have a strong logical intellectual support idea to declare that there is no God. But these Charvakas have got a strong logical theory, very strong, very strong arguments to prove there is no God. Even in atheistic theories we have reached top levels. We have produced Jain atheists. See, in the modern day atheists, they just spread atheism like one more religion, out of power. They don’t spread atheism out of logic or convincing people, no. It’s one more power, over. I always tell people, ‘atheism or theism, both are religions used by different people to achieve their ends, that’s all. To achieve their ends. So even in atheism, the Vedic tradition people have achieved different heights. They achieved different heights. And so logical.

We had all these kind of people but with all these kind of disturbances, with all these kind of atmosphere, with all these kind of people, our masters are able to create such huge infrastructures, temples just because there is a truth behind the whole tradition. There is a strong truth behind the whole tradition. They were able to crack, break stones just by sound. I, myself, have seen one yogi, he will just take a stone in the hand and create a sound through tongue, the hammer sound, just as if the hammer is hitting the stone. Just in tongue he will create the sound. The stone will be two piece and he will give it to you. Because sometime I used to wonder how these guys have broken or digged out so much of granite, so much of granite. How could they get so much stone out of the hill and how could they work so much with the stones? They used all methods, all systems, all different techniques. These huge temples and the lifestyle which they lived is a testimonial or the standing example of the power of the tradition. Understand, only if you understand the background and the power of the tradition, you will be able to relate with the technique. Otherwise, you can’t understand this technique. Just the technique says, ‘Enter the sound of your name and through this sound you will go beyond all sounds and achieve enlightenment.’ It will be very difficult. It’ll be very difficult if you go back to your home and your family, your spouse or somebody asks, ‘What did that Swami teach you?’ If you say, ‘Oh, he told me to repeat my name.’ They can’t understand, ‘What? For that you went to the swami? I would have taught you much better things’, that’s what they will tell. You went all the way to the temple to learn to repeat your name? No. Understand, unless you understand the whole background, you will not be able to relate with the technique which I am teaching now. You should know why Shiva is saying, “Repeat your name” because, traditionally, name is given by an enlightened being according to the energy from which you took birth. If you are centered on intellect, head, then you are considered as followers of Brahma. You will be more knowledge oriented. You will be more intellectual oriented. You will be given that kind of a name, Gnana; Gnana means intellect. You will be given that kind of a name. If you are more oriented towards heart, feeling, sensitivity, devotion, you will be more given a different kind of a name, belongs to Vishnu, bhakti, tradition. If you are being oriented, meditation, technique, solid guys. Being oriented people means very collected, strong; won’t speak much but just do things. Strong people. Tough guys, that’s the right word. If you are that kind of a being, if you are that kind of a personality, seeing your engrams of your past birth they will judge. If you are that kind of a personality, then you are Shiva energy. You belong to Shiva’s energy, Shiva’s tradition. They will choose name in that way. So whenever you remember your name and the meaning with which, or the idea with which the name is given to you, that itself will remind you your path and the goal. Being reminded by your path and the goal is the best way to enlightenment. Vivekananda says, ‘Person who has got a clear goal and the path, if he does five mistakes, the person without the clear path and goal, will do five thousand mistakes.’ When you have a clear path and goal and constantly reminded about it, you will not waste your energy unnecessarily in different dimensions.

Now, after becoming doctor, and practicing ten years, suddenly you will realize you are in the wrong place. Too late. I have seen many people, especially in this country, coming and talking to me, ‘Swamiji, now I feel like I should change the profession .’ You can’t. You’re too late. And after living so many years they say, ‘I am with the wrong person.’ Again change, but too late. The years you lived, over. The years you lived is over because after all you are going to be on the planet earth for some seventy-eight years. Maximum a hundred years. And the number of years you lived wasted, over. So understand, having that clear idea about the engrams which you brought and your path and the goal will reduce the time wastage, energy wastage and unnecessary things getting accumulated around you. You will not waste your time.

In the Bharatn tradition, the naming, giving a name was used as a technique to give you the path and the goal. It was like a campus for your life. Your name is the campus with which your name is the navigator with which you will constantly be reminded about your goal and the path. What you are supposed to achieve, what you are supposed to be. Fulfilling the meaning of your name is the fulfillment. That’s why in the Bharatn tradition, they say self fulfillment is self realization. Whatever you create as a self around your name, if you just fulfill that, you have realized yourself, over. You have realized yourself. If you are fortunate enough to be named by an enlightened being, understand, all you need to do is to experience that name. Don’t do any analysis. Don’t think, ‘Oh, my attitude and identity looks different and he gave different name how can this match?’ Never think. Just take that word, take that name and feel that is your life and that is the password for your inner consciousness. Use that as a password. Your new inner software will open; new world will open for you. You will experience a new space. That is the reason that enlightened masters insist on spiritual name, insist on spiritual name. Identify your spiritual identity and reconnecting yourself with your higher spiritual self.

This technique is a very powerful technique he says ‘enter the sound of your name.’ Understand, means you are not supposed to repeat loudly, you are supposed to repeat internally. The sound should be happening internally and you should just enter into that vibration.

One more thing, Sanskrit language is not created just to convey some logical prose idea. It is not just a linguistic purpose; Sanskrit has got phonetic purpose also. Phonetic means it is created to transmit a kind of a vibrations, particular kind of a sound. That is why we say the Veda mantras, even if you don’t understand, just repeating or listening is so powerful, just repeating or listening is so powerful.

So try, try to create that sound. I think many of you have your spiritual name, would have got in some of our programs. Just create that sound like a vibration. If you don’t have a spiritual name, maybe you can use some god’s name which you really, really feel connected. Your God or your Master. If you have a chosen deity, God or your Master, if you feel connected to him, you can use that name as a mantra. Just repeat that name let your being be filled by that sound and enter into that sound. Just be with that sound. You will see, suddenly you are in soundless space. You are in wordlessness. Just try to play with this technique for one month, not more than that. Just one month. Everyday morning ten minutes, evening ten minutes. Or even while you are driving this can be done, even with open eyes. Nothing wrong. While you are driving. While your are sitting, while you are spending few minutes with yourself just try, try, try to let your whole inner space be filled by that word. Whether your spiritual name, if you don’t have one, the deity, the God which you really love, with whom you feel connected or the Guru with whom you feel connected. That name. Anything will do. Just try to work with that sound; just try to work with that sound. Let your whole inner space be filled by that sound. Means internally it should be repeated. Your tongue should not move. You should not be repeating loudly. Internally it should be happening. And just enter that sound, you will reach the soundlessness. You will reach the soundlessness.

We will take now a few minutes to enter into the technique itself, to enter into the method itself. If you have your spiritual name, you can repeat, otherwise, the God or the Guru whom you really feel connected, use that name. Please close your eyes and just sit. First choose the word with which you are going to work. If you have spiritual name, that is best, or choose the god or the guru with whom you feel connected. Choose the sound or the name with which you are going to work. Let your whole inner space be filled by that sound. Internally repeat that sound, that name, intensely so that no other thought comes in your mind. If you don’t want to meditate, you can just sit with your closed eyes. Do not repeat loudly. Let your tongue not move. Let you repeat internally, intensely, so intensely that no other word raises in your inner space. Let your inner space be occupied completely by that name, by that mantra. Let your whole inner space be filled by that name, by that sound. Intensely repeat it in high frequency. Repeat it. Let no other thought come in your mind. Repeat with high frequency. Let there be no other sound. Just be filled by that sound. Don’t have any other thoughts.

Om. Nithyanandam!

Relax. You can open your eyes. Try with this technique for a month. You will understand the power of the experience which can happen to you just through the name. Just through one sound. Suddenly you will see new doors opening in you and you will be entering into the soundlessness which we call enlightenment. Let you all achieve and radiate the eternal bliss, Nithyananda. Thank you.
