“Vivakananda when he addressed the first batch of sanyasin that he…”
Vivakananda when he addressed the first batch of sanyasin that he ordained addressed them as 'Dheera', one who is courageous, secure, centered and ready to take on any challenge. To win the external world is easy. To win the internal world is like fighting 1000 elephants. Ramakrishna says: A sanyasi who has failed a hundred times is still superior to a householder who has never attempted. One who risks is dheera. One who knows for sure is no dheera. What is great about attempting something that is certain? Being a dheera implies insecurity, inherent challenge, risk. Ramakrishna says: What is so great about giving up the life of a grihasta when your organs are already limp like a worn out tooth brush! Swami has spoken equivalent of 4500 DVD cassettes in the last few years; only a fraction of them has been transcribed. One who decides to practice these discourses in one's life are these people..sthiram..dheera..firm and courageous. I am of agni, fire. Malas I wear are burnt. It is pure energy that comes from within. It is to purify not only what is inside, but everything around as well. These Naishtika Brahmachari will practice for 4 months from this Guru Poornima day today till Vijayadasami day 21 dhyana each day; these will change their consciousness. They have taken 5 vows; vegetarian; no toxic substance; no physical or mental sex; no property; complete devotion to Master. To take this risk in internal control is difficult, for you do not know what is inside. To clap and dance is easy, no effort is needed. Their parents have agreed. They are very courageous. I salute them. My parents too did not stop me. I have given my mother sanyas tonight. Jump before you think. You cannot think and then jump! A King offered the hand of his daughter in marriage to anyone who could swim through a moat filled with alligators. Suddenly a young man was flailing through the water desperately trying to reach the other shore. The King congratulated him and asked the princess to come forward. 'Wait' said the young man, 'I need to find out first who pushed me into the water!' Yesterday Swami conducted a marriage. Today ordained sanyasi. Tomorrow is a cremation; day after two more marriages. Guru is a man for all seasons. May the fire of enlightenment burn inside all of You! What these Brahmachari carry are the danda, the staff, which is the body of the Guru himself; it has his undergarment, the kaupinam, and his hair; from his open energized muladhara to sahasrara. It is the same as Guru himself and they worship the staff daily. The tuft ontheir heads keeps their feet cold and head warm and moves the energy upwards. In addition they carry the water pot kamandalam, footwear paduka; they have been given new names. After Ordainment Poornima, the full moon, is linked to our mindset. Listen to me in silence tonight. My silence is my essence. My words are mere skin. You get caught in the skin and forget the fruit. Those of you who do not understand Tamil are blessed; you are the right people to enjoy tonight. These fellows think they understand, but understand something else. Salt water in the ocean is turbulent on full moon and new moon days. In Rameswaram the sea has waves only on full moon days. Moon makes salt water agitated. Our body is only salt water. We get agitated during full moon days. Lunar and lunatic are linked; mind moves up and down with moon. When mind gets agitated samskara get deeply embedded. A woman was cooking following a book recipe verbatim. Put in one teaspoon of this, two table spoons of that, mix, add water, stir etc etc. Husband asked what are you making? She didn't want to commit. Shall tell you when it is ready. Even after one hour nothing was ready. She had not turned the oven on because the book did not mention it. Blood is agitated on full moon night. Rishis prescribed spiritual events on full moon nights. All 12 full moon nights of the year are festival days so that seeds of spirituality are planted and go deep. All three, bogi, rogi and yogi, cannot sleep well at night, for different resaons. Bogi will not because he is enjoying, rogi cannot as he is suffering, yogi should not. Do not sleep on poornima night. You will not sleep if you work physically. Ramana says: Guru is the atman inside calling you. He is also pushing from outside. He is pushing and pulling. Bhakti is if various forms and this is covered in the 4 day Bhakti Spurana Program. Tonight is the summary of BSP. Intellectuals do not respect rituals. Gyanam does not go with yagyam. Puja also does not go with yagyam. Dhyanam, Yagyam, mantram, puja..all these do not mix well. Yoga and dhyanam make people very serious. Have you seen a single happy yoga practitioner? Physically active rituals combined with other practices take you out of tamas! Why is bhakti needed? One who is satisfied with material pleasures leads an animal life. Humans cannot be fulfilled by physical pleasures alone. Humans become discontented with material pleasures alone. This discontent leads to search of God. Such a discontented person is blessed. Have you ever seen a discontented buffalo? It does not go to meditation class! Its consciousness does not give rose to discontent. Experiencing deep dissatisfaction with basic comforts is what leads to spirituality. When we have a headache we try to go back to our state of no headache ness, which was comfortable. Similarly humans try to go back to their natural state which had more than material comforts, when there was no discontent. Bhakti is the worm in the cocoon trying to become a butterfly; the effort is bhakti. It works at various levels. Those who are in their muladhara will seek deities like Kubera, God of Wealth, those in Swadishthana seek yama to remove fear, in Manipuraka seek Buddha for peace, in Anahata seek Krishna, in Vishuddhi seek Devi, in Ajna seek Siva to remove ego, and those in sahasrara seek the Guru to remove discontent. Bhakti purifies as chakras go up from muladhara to sahasrara. Humans seek what they lack. Fools worship Saraswati, beggars Lakshmi and cowards Durga. One who lacks atma gyana, self knowledge, seeks a Guru. Ulagame oru vidudi, that's why we are in Bidadi! The whole world is a resting place, that's why we are in Bidadi! Mind stops Master from entering. Master diverts mind through meditation and steps in. Bible says, knock and you shall enter. Update this. Master knocks and enters. Keep the door open. He will come in like the fragrant breeze. This the new version. Bhakti starts and progresses like this. First step is multiple deity worship in temples. Second step is yagya where all Gods are brought in one place as ritual worship. Third step is to do puja at home. Fourth step is to shift to one deity in puja. Fifth step is to do internal puja, mantra japa. Sixth step is dhyana, meditation , non verbal focus on form. Seventh step is meditation upon Master as living entity, as a form. There is the danger that you will shift to Master from your favorite deity, ishta devata, and reject Him too as you reject your ishta devata. Master is an updated version of consciousness, new edition. The eighth and final step is to drop Master's form and move to formless meditation upon the Ananda Gandha. Guru Bhakti becomes Atma Bhakti. Unclutched Thoughts are unconnected, illogical, responsibility less, independent and separated. If you write down your thoughts unedited for 5 minutes you will realize there is no connection between thoughts. If you have a preconceived notion that life is sorrowful, then mind will connect all thoughts through sorrow; same with joy too. If the perception of joy is linked to a person or event, one will be enslaved by that person or event. Connecting thoughts is the original sin. If we do not create thoughts, maintain thoughts and destroy thoughts, we transcend Brahma , Vishnu and Siva and move into Parabrahman. For 10 days try not to create thought flow, not to link thoughts, do not maintain or suppress, just unclutch. Watch the flow, do nothing else. Do not create a chain. When you drive to office, you realize you are driving only when you reach the office. On the way you have taken hundreds of decisions without being aware. You could not have driven without thoughts. You can live life without thought flow. You can also reach a higher level beyond thoughts. Guru Bhakti is atma bhakti. When you live without thoughts you realize your inner self, atman. Instead of using chain of thoughts as your basis for living, unclutch from this chain, from chains of sorrow and joy, and live through your atman. While driving unaware you pushed all your conscious decisions into your unconscious. While learning to drive every thing was done consciously. Once learnt well the actions became automatic and unaware. Habits are pushed into unconscious. However, if you act without connecting thoughts in a chain, you can rise above into the super conscious. You can live like this 24x7. You need to practice as you practice cycling or driving. You think inside you. You have no control over your mind. Still you can practice not linking thoughts. Don't create, support or control thoughts, flow of thoughts. Unclutch and you will reach sahaja samadhi. Pushing down from Conscious to Unconscious is Nivritti (This is the Western lifestyle) , enhancing from Conscious to Superconscious is Pravritti (this is the Eastern lifestyle). Now we shall walk on fire. Drop all preconceived notions of fire and what will happen when you walk on fire.
